Kevin Bruner confirms Clementine is biracial?

edited November 2013 in The Walking Dead

Is it true that at Comic-con this year Co-founder Kevin Bruner confirmed that one of Clementine's parents is Asian? Making Clementine biracial?

I always thought she looked partially Asian mixed.

Here is my source: [http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Clementine]

Is there any truth to this claim? Has anyone seen the full Comic-con panel?

  • Clems 75% black 25% white. Mother is black and white. Father is black. look at the family photo in the game. Why would she be asian when Lees black. Telltale should have just made Lee asian as well.

    weren't we done with that?

    She's human (homo sapiens)

edit: That whole percentage thing does remind me very much to the nazis regarding their half-jews, quarter-jews and stuff. So no she's not "75% black". What if her mother herself was already "75% black"? Does that make Clem "87,5% black"? Come on...

  • Btw some people are upset Clementine is mostly black. So some people try to make her every race, but black.

  • edited November 2013

Nah, your just upset that Clementine is black and you like her and wish clementine was asian or white like many others.

Yeah, that's right. I hate Clem being black, that why I am the one calculating exactly "how black" she is. Idiot.

If only that percentage fell under 50%. That would make the game that much more enjoyable.

Like I said the mere fact, to try to calculate her "blackness" is very nazilike with their Rassentheorie.

edit: Just to be sure, because on the internet, people sometimes don't understand it. The first three sentences are sarcastic.

  • Jews are white people, easy to understand. Yes, if Clementines mother is 75% black Clementine would be even more black. People like you are racist and it's easy to see when you like something but hate it got anything to do with black people

  • You know that there is this guy who had a dream that his four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.

My point being that we should be discussing Clementine by exactly the content of her character and not care what ethnicity she is. Besides in a Zombie Apocalypse you are either alive, dead, or have your brains bashed in!

Btw some people are upset Clementine is mostly black. So some people try to make her every race, but black.

  • Wtf... I thought Clem was 69% black, 11% white and 20% tasty...
You all ruined the game, i don't want to play it anymore...

  • Let's make it easy. Cradle of humanity is in africa. There you have it, we're all 100% black if we go down our family-tree far enough.

So why would anyone be less than 100% black?

  • Clementines is the only black female pc and some hate that. People think just because Clementines light skinned. Then that means she got no black dna, that's racist

  • Ugh.... who cares what her skin colour is, it don't matter anyway I don't know why there is suddenly so much discussion on it

  • edited November 2013

I actually would like to see confirmation from on high as to whether she was intended to be african-american or biracial or whatever else, just so the damn subject can be laid to rest for once and all and it can stop being brought up.

If the Kevin Bruner quote is accurate, then it might shut people up on the subject.

  • Changing Clementine

Lee Everett wasn’t Telltale’s first idea for a main character. Originally, Vanaman planned for Clementine to come from a single-parent household where Clementine’s brother took care of her due to her mother not being up for the task. With this idea, Clementine’s brother became the lead, but Vanaman decided a pre-existing relationship would be too much to ask a player to take on in The Walking Dead world. The decision led to them changing Clementine’s race because they wanted her to look like she could potentially be Lee’s daughter.

The daughter Lee could have had with a white or hispanic woman, obviously.

  • Telltale had considered other backgrounds for Clementine, such as being from a single-parent family, or being the younger sister of the player character, but found that the pre-established emotional bond between the characters did not fit well, and instead opted to make Lee Everett her father-figure. This led to changing Clementine's race from white to African-American, as to give her the appearance of being Lee's daughter to other characters Creating Clementine" Game Informer. pp. 26–31.

  • Their source is only the same interview you linked in your previous comment, which only talked about a changing of race without specific details. So them saying Clem was changed from white to specifically African-American is their interpretation. Another interpretation could be that she was changed from white to mixed. Both work.

  • lol believe what y'all want to believe,it been confirm from multiple of sources that she is African American even with a in-game pic of her parents lol. So if you don't like the facts just imagine she is a different race it if help y'all sleep. Y'all can even be creative and imagine her as a alien.

  • It's crazy that even with the in game picture of her african american family. It's still lies about Clementine race.

  • You could change Lee's race around and it still wouldn't change anything to make people know he isn't her biological father when they don't know anything about her mother.

Stop throwing around the term racist, when you obviously don't know what it means. You're the one calculating "how black" someone is. That is racist.

Because it assumes humans actually can be devided in black and white. That's the whole basis of that calculation, that there is a point at which people are "100% white" or "100% black". And from there you calculate 100% black, 50% black/white, 100% white for the next generation. And 0/25/50/75/100 percent for the next and so on. Newsflash. There is no such thing as 100% black or 100% white.

You acknowledged that all humans descended from africa. Therefore the startingpoint of humanity would be "100% black". All parents would be 100% black, all children therefore are 100% black. Next generation: the same. and so on and so on. That makes every human being "100% black".

Me being german, i really feel uncomfortable when people start calculating things like "half-black", "quarter-asian" or anything similar. We had this kind of thinking here 80 years ago.

We don't say someone is quarter-greeneyed, or half-blonde or threequarters-longnosed. Then why do that for skincolour? To make a difference out of that one property is what racism is.

Look at the picture of Clementine racist
