Starting on episode...
Hello all, I've recently started playing the first season of The Walking Dead again, though unfortunately I seem to remember too much. Though, I've only ever played the first three episodes. My saved data is gone as it's been a while.
I'd like to play the final two episodes before the release of the second season, though I don't really want to play the first three episodes again. If I decide to start from the fourth episode, will it have much of an impact on the story?
Thank you for reading, all the best!

Um not really everyone starts on about the same point in ep 4 . However I think you'd enjoy it more playing the game through from the begining as they do discuss your decisions quite a lot.
What if I were to start on episode three? Not that the other two bored me, but I don't have too much time to spare. It'd be nice to start playing season two as soon as it's released, so it'd be preferable to finish this as soon as possible.
Thank you for your response by the way.
How would the choices in previous episodes get decided if not played? Are they random or set default?
What about 400 Days? That counts and impacts S2 as well!
They randomize them. It's better if you just play the game, they're not that long.
It depends how much you care about the choices you make. If you just want to get through the game and see what happens, then it should be okay. If you are concerned with the impact and gravity of your decisions, perhaps play from the beginning.
From what I know, the most important decision in the first episode was to choose between Carley and Doug. There are also a few killings in episode two, though I wasn't sure it would make much difference to the story.
It generates a random save for you and the decisions vary, I would look in documents/telltale games/Walking dead and see if there are any save files.
Unfortunately, no save files. Thank you for your help nonetheless, it's very much appreciated.
This is only speculation, but many believe the decisions you make as Lee in Season One will affect the way Clem perceives things in Season Two. You may want to consider how you wish to play. Want to be Kenny's bro? You will definitely need to play the first three episodes to insure you agree with him on every choice, because in in the last two episodes Kenny remembers that shit. I think you can skip the first episode, unless you really care about the choice between Doug and Carley. I personally have replayed the entire game about 10 times- it all depends on how much patience you have and how much you care about the choices. About the dependent deaths of Andrew and Danny St. John, they will barely impact the rest of the story. However, Clementine will not like what you did and it won't strengthen your relationship with her. Like I said before, choices like these may influence Clem later on.
Could the choices in the first two episodes effect the story greatly?
Not swinging it dramatically just altering a few future conversations and relationships with people. Then again it might alter Clem's personality in season 2 or impact the story in some way I really couldn't say
Try going into C:/Program files (x86)/Steam/Steam apps/common/The Walking dead. Right click on Walking dead 101 and go to compatibility, then change the compatibility to windows service pack 3 and run as administrator. I really hope this helps but If it doesn't then I'm all out of ideas ...
If you're so certain you don't want to replay episodes 1-2 or 1-3, then just start with whatever you want. The way the game is designed is so it encourages you to replay more than once to see how things change. If you don't have the time now, play what you can. Then when you have time later, replay from the beginning. Not like the game is a limited time offer and will self destruct afterward so you can't play again.
As far as we know, we don't know how the choices in season one will effect season two so we don't know if picking X over Y will matter more. Choices in season one don't make that much of an impact in the first game or even the 400 Days DLC. Game still ends roughly the same regardless of what you choose. The question becomes how that impacts the next season which we won't know until that's released.
Suppose you can look at the game as "it's not the destination but the journey that matters". Game might end the same regardless of what you choose, but it's the choices you make along the way that make the journey memorable. You can start season one at episode 3 or 4, but how likely are you to remember those choices in the next game? How important are those choices to you? If the choices are more important than your time, then just start from episode 1 and go from there. If your time is more important, then just play what you can. The game isn't really that long. Might take 10-15 hours or so to play through the entire thing, and if you already played the first three episodes, then you already know what to do so that will go by that much faster.
No one can really tell you what to do. Ultimately, that's your choice. Do you want to know every choice made and control the story into season two or do you want to let the game randomize some choices in the episodes you skip which you may not like and only carry a few of your choices into season two? This save will carry to season two, so if you want to play that, you may want to think about how you want to approach that game.
Thank you all for your help, it's very much appreciated.
I recommend starting from Episode 1. Some choices you make in Episode 1 and 2 have some side effects in later episodes and possibly Season 2.
