Season 2 Graphics Discussion

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

Through screenshots and trailers, I have noticed graphics for the Walking Desd have improved. The overall comic book outlined style is still there, but a bit more realistic and more colorful, a more clean up look with less jagged curves and tearing.

The lighting has also drastically improved, seen by the trailer and the picture of Clementine in the cabin (the candlelight effect). The characters have more detail, like Omid and Clem, and if the Wolf Among Us tells us anything, the animation, frame rate, and voices will all run very smoothly. Hopefully the shading will be more like TWAU as well. Hopefully it will run smoother and faster as well.

Comments

  • The graphics in TWAU showed a major improvement. Def. looks a bit more detailed than the last season. Hell TTG made some money off the first. Up the ante a bit.

  • Yes. I hope the game runs smoother than Season 1 as well. You know, faster animation, smooth models and faster loading times. If the Wolf Among Us is anything to go by, Season 2 should run great!

Yea TWAU art/graphic style was spot on.

"Hopefully it will run smoother and faster as well."

What do you mean by this, I just played the pc version of TWD s1 a few mins ago and i don't think it dropped from 60 fps once lol.

  • Oh, On PC it runs great! Despite the occasional hiccup or freeze before a new scene or camera angle change. That comment was more for console users, who experience freezing and lag a bit more, as well as off matched lip syncing. PC is runs Telltale games way smoother it seems

S2 may have improved graphics, yes. But I doubt that they're going to be reminiscent of TWAU. TWAU had a noir graphical style, which makes sense with the shading and it's original source material (the comics). And even though it's stated that season 2 of WD diverges from the comic canon (and presumably is going to have it's own continuity), I'm guessing it'll still retain graphics similar to those of S1.

  • Yes, it will surly have a different color patte than Wolf Among Us. Not as bright and neon :)

The screenshots do look great, however Telltale also had High-Res textures in their trailers as well as screenshots for S1,and they were never in the game (the shown graphics,I mean).

  • MAD because i cant see how Lee would look in graphics.

  • Flashback?

MAD because i cant see how Lee would look in graphics.

  • Flashback(s) would be an awesome way to see Lee in these new graphics. Or perhaps...ZOMBIE LEE!?!

  • Yeah...Mind-blowing huh? :P

  • I didn't even get to cripple fight him! :(

    Yeah...Mind-blowing huh? :P

  • It wouldn't be like that on mine. I had Clementine shoot him.

  • I think the facial expressions have improved as well.

  • Haha, that would have been something...

  • Same, I'm just saying if no one picked that option...DUN DUN DUN!!!!!!!!

  • Most engines are developed to be better over time, TTG's engine is no exception, should be interesting to see the moody lights and shadows at play in the next season, so dark corridors will be darker and a bit more unsettling.

Hopefully find out in the next weekish to 2 weekish :P

  • Back on that Reddit AMA Telltale had, they mentioned they had a new engine they were going to release "next summer," which I think is safe to conclude will be by the time Wolf Among Us and Walking Dead Season 2 end.

  • I like the graphics and the way they look. If s1 looked great (I played IOS and graphics weren't that good) on PC/whatever, they'll look spectacular now!

  • Yes! It will be awesome!!!

  • Was talking about the current state of the engine, it has obviously been developed more since TWD > TWAU :)

  • As they are updating their engine, their graphics, gameplay mechanics and everything will be improved aswell.

  • Yep! :D Also, new mechanics to keep gameplay fresh.
