Finding it hard to swallow 400 days ending

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

Hours before Season 2, I'm still not sure if I should just replay 400 days and get everyone to come with Tavia, or stick with my 3/2 split with 3 going, and 2 staying.

Someone give me some moral company here. I'm on the fence. I know I had a thread saying I would stick with my decision, but it's so close now, and I'd rather not lose Wyatt and Russell because I like them (they stay behind).

Aaargh, it's so frustrating. For me at least. Am I the only one?

  • I recently replayed Season 1 and 400 Days. In season one, I sided with characters that I knew ended up alive by the end of the season (Omid, Krista, Kenny). In 400 days, I made sure I got everyone to go to the camp. I'm afraid if a character doesn't go, that's the last we'll see them.

  • Well, I think you should just stick with your decisions you have already made. That's what makes it fun and interesting rather than going back and changing your decisions just because you didn't like the outcome of your initial decisions.

  • I think re-doing anything kind of ruins the entire point

  • I originally had all of them come with me, except Russell. Ofcourse, I had to go back and make sure they ALL joined me.

I just think having all 5 join up with you will benefit you in the long run. But that's just me.

  • But is to join Tavia the better choice? Maybe it's a trick or they get killed. We know nothing about Tavia and her intents.

  • i think thats the beauty of having multiple game files
i have my game one where i have my choices be what they are good or bad but after playing i do it again on a different save
    so thats my solution

  • Of course I still have my blind playthroughs as well.

  • Personally, I'm just going to go with what I have the first time around, (everyone but Russell) and if I decide to do a second playthrough, then I'll alter my saves at that point.

Though, I find it really hard wanting to metagame the particular choices in this game regardless.

You should not feel guilty about crafting your own "perfect playthrough" if that's what you want.

This is your game and there is no better or worse way to play it. Do what brings you the more enjoyment.

I'm not a fan of the "first playthrough = canon playthrough" idea myself, since at first play there are many things you fuck up because of the ambiguity of some dialogue options or choices, when you want your character to react one way but end up making him react in a complete different manner... There is no "realism" blindly sticking to decisions you made because you misunderstood the mechanics of a situation.

Sometimes you also need to discover the game a first time to 'get' the characters and the background, and then you roleplay better another time...

Playing too many times eventually ruins the game because that's when you realize how narrow your freedom of choice was after all (Telltale games give more an illusion of freedom than real freedom), and you become aware of all the things that won't change no matter what you do, it is indeed frustrating.

But you're talking about preparing the new season : it is your right 100% and even a good idea to allow yourself the best start according to your taste. Going through next season with constant remorse about something you think you didn't do right or should have done differently in previous games can also be very frustrating and ruin your experience of season 2. Don't ruin your fresh first play of season 2 (which is always the most "magic" speaking of feelings and amazement) just because some people have a certain idea of a supposedly "real" way or best way to play Telltale games.
