Season 2: WHY Telltale WHY!

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

An amazing adventure so far....but why...why.....why.....why. Why did you have to do the scene with the dog. I have no problem killing zombies, but man, that dog scene got to me. Yeah, I know its a game, but I love animals and my wife and I have quite the few pets. Did anyone feel the same way once they got to that scene. I had to turn off the game for now and will go back to it later. I was hoping that Clem would be able to have the dog with her but by my choice - poor pooch gets staked :(

  • Felt really bad for Fido when he was lying there dying. But definitely didn't want him following me around barking or trying to eat my arm off again.

That dog had what was coming for it although it was unsettling. There was a reason it deserved to die it is simple:

it tried to hurt Clem therefore it must be eliminated

  • I left the dog to suffer and feel the pain.
    Don't mess with my food.

  • Everyone is talking about how they "mercy" killed the dog. For me I simply wanted for Clem to kill the sorry sack of crap with her own hands. That dog deserved what it got.

  • Yes but only kill a living thing if it is an animal for food or it attacks you

  • I can feel you. Like I said in a similar thread I expected Sam to become something akin to fallout 3's Dogmeat (and It was my most trusted compagnion!).

it really got to me when I had to kill him because I had a dog named the same and ... well I had to put him down for reasons. I felt a bit sick, fever and hands shaking so I had to stop playing for an hour or two. It really was a sad event, and it's even more powerful for people that lost a precious animal friend.

  • Lol you are one cold bastard

Dogs die. I've lost 2 dogs, and a cat. I was the one in the family who hated when my dog had to get fixed. I wanted to see that crap dog dead.

Indeed, in no way would I hurt that dog if he didn't attack. I was hoping for him to stay for a companion to Clem, but once it attacked I knew he can likely kill Clem with all that aggression.

  • Yeah, at first I was excited about possibly having a K-9 companion for the remainder of the season. It was crazy when he snapped though! I honestly didn't feel too bad about putting him down after that. I understand he was just hungry, but that is no excuse.

  • I felt when Clem approached the dog on the spikes that was a very dramatic moment. I felt as if I was in her shoes having to do the mercy kill on the dog she wanted as her friend.

  • All he wanted was some beans (and some of Clementine's flesh). :(

  • And for her to be the mother of his werewolf offspring

  • True. It was still sad though. Clementine finds that picture of the dog with his family, so you know he was a good doggy. He was just starving and therefore food aggressive. He had to die after attacking Clem though. I'm with you on that. I just felt bad for the little guy. It wasn't his fault, nor was it Clem's. It was just a result of the world having fallen apart. Sad scene all around.

  • What? That's a weird thing to say. You wanted your family's dog dead? Yikes.

  • He does kill Clementine if you're not quick enough (which I wasn't the first time around). He goes for the jugular. It was a pretty graphic death for Clem. Sad situation. I was wishing that they never crossed each other's paths. They both would have been better off.

  • Well I had mixed feeling about the dog. I was of course mad at it for attacking Clem. The dog was probably afraid Clem wouldn't give it any more than those few beans. The dog's instinct's took over and it attacked to try and get the food. It's also possible the dog was crazed from going without food for so long or from its owners being gone. Then to top it all off I saw the dog on those tent poles. I couldn't just leave it there despite what it did.
The scene was like an emotional ping pong.

Yeah, it was a tough one. I played the first episode twice already and the second time I STILL couldn't bring myself to leave him there. I like to switch things up on consecutive playthroughs, but I don't think I'll ever be able to leave the dog. He's so pitiful with the whimpering and the struggling. It feels wrong to leave him suffering, even if he is just a bunch of pixels.

  • I'm funny about 2nd playthroughs. I won't play again until I've finished the whole season. I want all my choices to be the ones I chose the first time. :)

  • I can't believe Clem wasted food by just leaving him there, though.

  • It's kind of Clem's fault, really. You don't feed a starved dog by putting food in its face, then pulling it away. Obviously the dog's going to want to protect the last chance of life it gets. Clem should of dumped some beans on the ground, or separated it before letting the dog have any. Dang it, Clem, why'd you have to murder that poor puppy.

  • What i don't understand is how this dog was starving? There are plenty of meat in the woods, not countin' numerous walkers and deadman right at the camp. My dog eats ANYTHING it can chew (except for vitamins and some dog food, ye-ah...).

  • Oh gosh, I just got that. What a sick easter egg/reference. ='(

Yeah for season one, I played through twice, choosing the opposite choices the 2nd time. I guess it kinda felt like my choices had less impact. This time I will wait until the season has finished before I play through again. Still I don't know if I could bring myself to let the dog suffer. It's too cruel.

So many threads about the dog and I am just sitting here, grieving over the loss of Omid.

Why the hell should I care more for an unfortunate mutt instead of a character I started to like from season 1 onwards, who ended up dying way too early and sudden in the first episode of season 2.

  • FK YOU SAM!!!!!!!!!**

  • That was horrible Telltale. Clementine is an IDIOT. Dog that has been away from humans (apart from those trying to eat it) for at least a year.. check

Girl that has a small bond with it.. check

Girl that offers food to a feral dog FROM HER HAND ON THE FIRST MEETING.. check

Now tell me you'd do this to ANY dog you just stumble across in the woods, tag or not.

And if you'd expect it to bite?!!

I love animals and have been bitten before when I was a kid. Because I didn't know. But I was about 5 then and it was a big doberman or rottwieler.

So yeah USE THE BLOODY BOWL would have been a nice option. His bloody bowl is in the middle of the camp.

WHO FEEDS FERAL/SEMI-WILD DOGS BY HAND?!!

    Sheesh.

  • What Easter egg? Sam dies? Is this a tales of monkey island thing?

  • You can choose to not feed the dog at all which is what I did first time around. Clem's says: "don't beg. You can have whatever's left" she eats a bit more, then the dog goes off on her.

  • I got attached to Sam when I first met him. But after he attacked me, when I tried to feed him, I didn't care for him any longer. I walked off and let him suffer. ungrateful little mutt got what he deserved.

Well.. It was a horrible scene, but after the first season I prepared myself to these shocking moments. I KNEW something bad was going happen to the dog, but was expecting it to be either attacked by a walker or shot by some stranger, something like that. It was sad.. Though it was probably for the best that the dog didn't survive and follow Clem around, because to be honest zombie apocalypse is hardly a time to own a pet, especially a dog. Reason one is the noise. It would eventually got Clem killed, barking around at every walker around like that. Also, the food. Survivors need every little bit of food they could get, starvation is a constant threat. For these reasons I was expecting Clem and the dog would be parted, and since it's The Walking Dead, I knew it was going to be pretty.

  • My guilt is limited.

It was a stray animal going violent with hunger, killing it was a mercy. Besides, there was no way we were going to be able to actually take care of a dog at that point.
