if the apocalypse came now...

hey I'm just wondering if the apocalypse had just begun like in The Walking Dead what would be your top 5 weapons you would fight with

  • A Katana and a machete would be pretty cool.
A handgun would be usefull with a m16 and ak 47.
    Don't ask me why.

  • I'd pick a samurai sword, a silenced pistol, a m16, a MSG and a crossbow

  • Whatever was available.

If you want play out the scenario realistically, you are going to have weapons that are would be realistically at your disposal. So gun owners might have firearms if the apocalypse is kind enough to occur while they are home, or while carrying. Everyone else is limited to maybe household tools like hammers, knives, ect. At least initially. Most people are unlikely to have katanas in their home or place of work.

Long term, my plans would involve going to a military base. Besides having some really good hardware and plenty of ammunition, they'd also have stockpiles of MREs (Meals Ready to Eat). Unopened MREs last years.

  • Hahahah, m16 and ak-47 are some famous weapons so... That's why.

Wait, I told you I would not tell why... :(

  • well if we are being realistic here, i don't have any guns or anything just lying around, so probably a kitchen knife or meat cleaver, and a baseball bat which i could put nails through, other than that i'm not sure.

  • If the zombie apocalypse started now, the gaming percentage of the world would die wondering why the "Q" button is more ineffective than usual; the rest would be killed while trying to Tweet about it.

  • haha so true.

  • How about 5 salt licks?

  • I would rather survive than tweet myself to death

  • That's pretty much where everyone would go though.

I think the best choice would be a cruise ship. Undead can't reach it and you can fish an entire ocean for food.
You could also deploy the lifeboats to run raids for the things you need.

Plus you have mobility and a fairly great living standard on one.
Toilets won't work properly during the apocalypse, so you could just take a leak over the rail. :P

Hygenic, safe, exciting ! Get a ticket today !

  • First , I'd keep my mustache , then a knife and a hammer should be good if there isn't any pistol .

Guns and rifles suck during an apocalypse, they only make noise and run out of ammo.

The best option would be to use arrows, they are silent and you can use them multiple times.
You can even craft more of them if you need to.

For close combat a katana or a machete would be great though.

Even better would be a mace, makes it easier to crack their skulls than a cutting weapon.
I don't know how well a katana cuts through bone...

Well living in the UK where firearms are pretty much banned, which would make them a rarity. We'd be screwed we'd have to use any blunt object that'd come to hand or kitchen knives. But if i was to choose i'd say machete and a crossbow or bow and arrow for re usable ammo

  • ..or update their Facebook status to: "about to die" along with an Instagram picture of them bleeding out.

  • well if we only take things that are in reach I would have to use a hammer, 3 different knives and a hockey stick

  • I actually think Kenny had a good idea at the boat. Or at least the had the beginnings of a decent plan, as I'm not sure he thought it through beyond "get on a boat."

Georgia and North Carolina have lots of small little islands of the coast, most of which are either uninhabited or sparely populated. The native walker population would either be low or non-existant, and since an ocean would be between it and the mainland, it can't be reinforced by them. A boat gives you the ability to sail hundreds of miles of coastline and up and down rivers. Considering many highways are likely blocked by abandoned cars and/or walker hordes, a boat gives you greater range and mobility when scavenging than a car would. It also puts you within reach of most of the best sites to scavenge, as people tend to settle close to water. That is where your settlements, stores, warehouses, and military bases are going to be. Many of the farms as well.

If you manage to get a boat, preferably one that operates by wind power as well as gas (gas supplies might be unreliable), you could use it to scavenge seeds or plants from abandoned farms or greenhouses to plant on your island, to grow your own food. You might be able to use it to bring back animals as well, like chickens or pigs. On the island you could set up rain collection and desalination (neither of which are complicated) to help provide for your water supplies, though you'd also want to find an island with a stream or a natural spring. You could get weapons and MREs from military bases (multiple are within reach of Georgia), and the ocean would protect against walkers and bandits.

Honestly an island is probably the ideal set up for the TWD.

  • haha why tell?

  • Brooklyn Smasher (already got one), Two-handed machete (soon), a nice European-styled sword (anyone got 300 bucks for me?), a battle knife (USMC) and a quality Tomahawk. And maybe a gun, a shotgun and a semi-/full- automatic assault rifle for bandits.

  • Top 5? Idk if i'd be lugging around 5 weapons. I think I would go with a 9mm handgun (seems to be the most popular handgun in the US so no lack of ammo?), some sort of rifle (long range kills), an ax or machete (no ammo worries and can double as something to cut or chop with) and a knife...knives are always useful.

  • Most swords you see today are crap and wouldn't last longer than a handful of Walkers. On the other hand most people probably would end up killing themselves, if they had to use a real katana in a frantic combat situation.

Living in Europe I wouldn't have access to firearms other than hunting rifles and shotguns (no pump-action or semi-autos). But what we do have, at least in my city, is an Armory filled with medieval weapons and armor, all of which are kept functional by the same guys that look after the Swiss Guard's equipment. My shopping list: chainmail including hood, buckler, mace and a short sword/long knife.

  • There are some quality swords for several hundreds to thousends of € (Katanas and European swords) you can get in Europe which will hold their edges even after killing 100 walkers. Also you don't necessary need guns, because you'll find them at the corpses of dead soldiers and police officers or when looting armories. And think about it, even if you can't get guns legally you can still buy melee weapons on amazon (even in the UK).

  • As I said: MOST swords.
Picking up weapons from soldiers and cops? good luck with that, in my country there's 20.000 police officers, total population: 8 million, that's one gun per 400 citizens (and that's assuming every cop would die on the street while carrying a weapon). As for the army/looting soldiers: what am I supposed to do with an assault rifle? I can't clean it, finding ammo for it would be a lot harder than for other firearms and if I pull the trigger too hard, the clip is empty within the blink of an eye (at least the regional model).

The FUBAR would be my ultimate choice, similar to Molly's awesome ice ax, but with more options.
In a pinch I would go with a regular crowbar or baseball bat.
I think blunt force is optimal in taking out walkers, not as likely to get hooked on something, or prying it out while stuck...

  • If I had to choose and could presumably be efficient at each one? An Ithica shotgun, a crossbow, a metal baseball bat, a pistol (easier to find ammo) and a hatchet. Just seem the most useful to me.

  • D eat all my HotPockets first.... Then, nah, I'd just eat my HotPockets

I've thought about it a bit lately and if a zombie apocalypse actually happened, I really doubt it would actually be an apocalypse. Humans are in a much better position to prevent a complete shutdown of society than zombie apocalypse stories ever give them credit for.

First all, we generally don't leave dead bodies laying out in the streets. Most dead bodies are either in the ground or in a morgue. The only exceptions are the very recently dead and even they are very likely either indoors, in a car, or otherwise unlikely to be roaming freely about the streets. Zombies are too stupid to even be able to open doors and far too weak to break them down unless there are a lot of zombies which there likely won't be. Even a morgue has the bodies separated and stored, not just laying about in a manner in which they could group up and become a threat.

What would more likely happen is that there would be a few deaths in the first day or two before everyone knows what's going on and then the matter would be dealt with. We would have to change our ways of doing things a bit from there on out and be a bit more cautious than we have become accustomed to in modern society, but I really don't see how society could possibly collapse due to zombies.

Therefore, I would choose no weapons at all and just go about my business as usual.

  • I'm good at with a bow so probably that idk maybe a crossbow. I would have a small pistol but only for emergencies.

  • I'm going to be logical here and stick with what I've got. That being a kitchen knife (with a neighbor who has and abundance of varieties) and 2 metal staffs.

  • Wouldn't the nails just make it get stuck more easily?
