What we know about "Wellington".

I'm sure there are things I have missed on the 1st play through,so I wanted to start this thread to keep an ongoing account of where Clem is.

1) We know they intended to move north to reach Wellington.

2) Approximately 24 months have passed since the ending of season 1 Ep 5. (I guessed that Christa was about 7-8 months pregnant when we caught up with the gang and after Omid died there it was noted 16 months had passed to "present situation".

3) The impending winter is obvious as Christa proclaims there will be snow and freezing rain soon. In that same scene Clem finds a North Carolina license tag. Having lived here in N.C. for almost 30 years I know that the Northern Georgia border and N.C. border (via I-85) is about 170 miles.(Miles can vary "as the crow flies") Just finding the tag doesn't mean she is actually IN N.C. but it's all I have to go on.

4) Assuming (all I got sorry) they are in N.C., if they travel due north their whole trip they would only be in N.C. for about 150 miles. It took them 24 months (maybe they walked all the time or took breaks...I dunno) to get from North Georgia to somewhere in N.C.

5) From the middle of N.C. to the top of Virginia is a little over 300 miles, twice the miles they have covered. (roughly)

This is not meant to be precise at all but I am putting my investigative skills to work and this will change as new information is available. Feel free to add anything I may have missed to help paint the picture.

  • You mean Christa, right?

  • Wow you are so right. Got to edit that. Nice catch man!

  • Wait, you can pick up the license plate? Interesting, I picked up the log, put it in the campfire and then shit went down haha.

Also, pretty good theory, I doubt you'll go to Wellington since this group seems very stationary but yeah, good theory.

  • Towns in the United States called Wellington.

Very few are due north of North Carolina. Maybe the one in Maine? With a population of 260 people? How would Christa ever hear of a town that small, especially from as far away as Georgia? Would it take Christa and Clem two months to make the walk between North Carolina and Maine?

I'm assuming, of course, that Wellington is some kind of survivor community which has continued to use the pre-apocalypse name of the town. I'm also ruling out all the Canadian Wellingtons, any one of which I suppose might present other possibilities.

  • I would submit to you that Wellington may not be the name of an actual place, as we know it. "Wellington" invokes the term of being "well".

Maybe it was renamed or maybe the name Wellington is made up by chance entirely.

Don't get stuck on the name as it relates to our "pre-apocalypse maps".

  • Going back past Walking Dead examples. There is a Woodbury in Georgia and there is a Crawford square in Savannah. I expect people would cling to things from pre-apocalypse times, especially familiar names.

wellington might be episode 5 since its all snowy in the picture.

  • I can't doubt that thinking at all. But maybe this time....just saying.

  • Is there any explanation of why they would go further north for the winter? Do they think the walkers will freeze or that there is some kind of save zone? Just curious if I missed the reasoning behind it or if someone has a good explanation why they would go north instead of south where it's warmer. Like down to Florida or something.

  • I'm not entirely sure they will make it to Wellington. And does the weather pattern correspond?

  • Infection can die in freezing temperatures and Walker would get slowed down by the snow and maybe even freeze, causing them to stiffen up and be easy to kill them/take off frozen limbs.

  • I doubt they count on a zombeh freeze going north. They were informed "Wellington" was North and it's all we have to go on..moving forward.

  • Yes it must be at least a little up north because it does not snow in southern Georgia...

Speaking of snow, has there ever been a cold/snowy environment in the comics, what happens to walkers in freezing temperatures?

  • I believe it's a reference to Wellington, Kentucky. The path from Savannah Georgia to Wellington Kentucky passes straight through North Carolina.

  • It's cold

  • Uppin to keep this relevant..for now.

  • Good question.. what Wellington do they mean? Assuming they make it to "Wellington" and Episode 5's picture shows area somewhere near Wellington, it would have to be near a bigger city (http://static4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20131217202453/walkingdead/images/d/d5/NGB_Home_Screen.png).

My theory is, they are indeed referring to Wellington, KY.
It is near Louisville. I googled some "skyline" pictures of Louisville and even though they don't seem to march it 100%, it might be a possible match for the ep 5 pic.

Plus, in the preview video at the end of episode 1, they are talking about reaching some mountains in a 4-5 days walk. If they were referring to the Appalachian mountains, it would support Wellington, KY, since they seem to be somewhere in North Carolina and want to reach some mountains.

There remains a question, though. How should any place near a bigger city be safe?

  • we know they have a delightful cuisine

I think there's some snow in the early issues. It seemed to freeze some walkers or at least slow them. I've wanted to see snow in the games or show since then
