Things that made you mad at the game? (S2)

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

So this is dumb but I figured I'd start a thread for stuff like this, if only to make sure I'm not alone in my odd habit of screaming at my television as I'm playing.

For example - I screamed at first when Clem left her gun in the bathroom. Kept trying to mouse over it, and got mad when I couldn't. Eventually succumbed... and then Omid dies. Damn it, Clem! I told you to get the gun!

And then the dog, Sam... I was completely shocked by how rabid he turned but after all that I got mad at Clementine for not even considering eating him. Come on, you're hungry and there's a whole dead freaking dog. At least cut off a foot and eat it? I guess I was upset because I had given him the beans and not eaten any. I can't really expect Clem to chop up a dog she's just traumatizingly killed, I suppose.

I was also mad at Clem's insistence on leaving the shed; the whole time I was just like "Clem, no. Clem, we stay here and do what the nice people say. DAMN IT, CLEM!"

I guess my habit of talking to Clem in general might be unhealthy. :P

  • I agree with you. But it mostly just made me depressed. ;_;
If that was me instead of Clem, I would've just asked for a blanket and slept in the shed! And I woul've said I told you so in the morning! :P

  • I was mad that Pete didn't have a razor to shave his bald patches up. Need to stay fresh and clean for da bitches

Clem's legs looked too short even for a child and the way she walks, like a duckling

  • i agree with the gun thing. And alot of the dialog choices weren't very well written if you ask me, for example when talking to Luke at the table, Clem always said the exact same thing regardless of choice on all my playthroughs. (as well as a few more times where i was thinking "why can't Clem just say.......?" also the fact that they killed off omid in such a lazily written way.

  • I didnt mind the gun thing. Clem is 11, shes not perfect lol.

  • Yeah, I think TT exagerated with the bad things this episode. Omid's death (what made me the most rageous and made me cry like a baby), Christa's baby presumed dead, Christa disappearing, that guy with the hat is actually Nick, not Kenny (although he might appear in episode 2, when Clem was shocked in the teaser), that pregnant woman and Carlos are a pain in the ass, Pete is bit, Nick ran off to the woods (if u chose to save Pete), and much more to come in the next episodes...I barely managed to take that much emotion...

  • Eating the dog occurred to me, but that poor thing didn't have any meat on its bones.

That stupid doctor really pissed me off, also Clem leaving her gun on the counter.

I was like "Damnit Clem always have your gun with you! Didn't I teach you anything!?".

  • Classic situation: DO NOT left your gun, when going' to stall.

I immediately knew something was up when she left the gun. Damn it, Clem!

  • I found her walk slightly disturbing - she walked like a model on a catwalk, and I am NOT comfortable with seeing the swinging hips on a 10 year old.

  • This episode was a disappointment. 60% of the time i was disappointed

  • I agree about leaving the gun but I see that as just being an intro where clem is still a child who dosnt understand the world fully.

I do feel like having the option with the dog would cause some people to rage. Despite it savaging her many people seem to burst into tears over it seeing that may make people rage quit. I would have liked that option though

  • Clem not taking the gun into the bathroom stall. I tried to have her pick it up, to no avail.

Generally speaking it is not a good idea in a game built around choices, to present an obvious choice but not give the player the option of taking it. I understand that perhaps Omid needed to die in that scene, but it could have been better executed. Allow the player to take the gun but not be able to save Omid anyway. Clem is a little girl after all, and can be overpowered.

  • Not being able to comb Rebecca's hair.

  • 99% I was crying.

  • i forgot the fact that a dog by nature will NEVER bite the hand that feeds it...

I wont lie, im pretty disappointed by this episode. hopefully through the season it gets better, and they improve the writing. Especially when it comes to bringing characters back just for the sake of it. I swear if they bring back kenny just for the sake of it too in episode 2 i wont be getting the rest of the season because it will be obvious that they are just cashing in on the success of S1 and don't care about the story like they once did.

The bad, unispired, unbelievable and somewhat illogical writing made me mad. xD
Nick Breckon is the new lead writer, a guy who worked as a community manager at Bethesda for the last four years. I mean, with such a fantastic resume like that they just had to make him lead writer. lol

I am expecting the writing to get to get even worse or stay equally as bad. I guess most people won't notice it until episode 2 or 3 though.

  • I was too chilled and happy to be playing season 2 to think about the gun. I was all for getting the stuff to fix my arm. It looked really bad. I wouldn't have considered eating a dog either.

  • You think that no dog would ever bite someone just because they offer it a bit of food? Have you ever been around stray animals?

  • Killing off Omid so quickly, for nothing more than cheap emotional impact. Same thing with Sam, though his bite was a major plot point. I'd rather the option to kill Sam in battle rather than the tent-pole incident.

Also I can't wait for some of the characters to be killed off (Carlos, Sarah, Alvin, Rebecca) so we can get some Season 1/400 days familiar faces into the group. What this season needs is a solid character we recognise and like. Sure, Pete and Luke seem like nice guys, but they're no Lee, that's for damn certain.

We need Vince up in here. Also Wyatt's beard of glory, and bring Shel too because Becca will annoy people. And that's funny.

  • May I ask what makes the writing so horrible to you?

  • What made the mad was Carlos, the best doctor ever. Can't even see the diffirent between a dog bite and human, also he's like "lets just leave this girl in the shed with an open wound that is probably infected that may kill her over the night or atleast make her severly sick" Makes me mad > : (
To make matter worse, i pleaded to him for help.

  • It depends on what you call disappointed. I did not like to kill the dog and had expectations that he would become Clem's Dogmeat(Fallout reference). But Storywise, that did not seem disappointing. I imediatly thought that the bite was going to give me trouble with others survivors and that, if not treated, she could get an infection. So, that's how things played out, the paradox of needing help and getting suspicion from outsiders. I do get a little upset about choices in TT Walking Dead. They seem artifical because they don't matter. Carly and Doug Die either way, Lilly leaves the group, etc. I feel it's going to be the same with Pete. I would be very pleased with a legless Pete in the following episodes, but given TT scripting, I don't have high expectations on that happening. Although I take my hat off to TT for making choices matter in a more subtle way. They have a clear effect on characters reactions to you, and that's awesome. But still, having different storylines in a game makes it more replayable.

  • Made me mad, too. It's an unrealistic reaction, even for a hungry dog. Clem had to kill that dog because of poor writing.

  • A snap bite at Clem would have been believable, but not the lunge/try-to-kill routine we got.

And judging from the bodies, Sam wasn't a stray for that long.

    The poor doggy :/
I admit the bite was a pretty effective plot device though, but Carlos not being able to distinguish a dog's and a zombie's bite was pretty dumb. I also thought I had somewhat less time to select an answer, but it's been a while since I played season 1 so I may be wrong.

what?! my little puppy growls when i go to take her treat. 2 years into the zombie apocalypse and she would attack me definitely.

  • Isn't it quite obvious a starved animal who hasn't eaten for quite some time is gonna attack you if you take the food away from it?

  • I wont say I am a dog behavior expert, but I have worked for years with Guide dog's for the blind and have been a dog groomer for the past 12 years.
    Dog's are my life.
Now while I admit i've never had to deal with a dog on the edge of starvation, I do know enough to understand that almost any dog will resort to it's natural instincts especially when facing starvation. I was even specifically watching the dog's body language (ears back, tail down) wondering how much research TTG put into that scene knowing some people will catch the dog's mood.
My hope was for Clem to have a faithful companion in Sam, but of course that didn't happen.. Someone else here on the forums made a spot-on observation about why Sam attacked Clem.. When Sam knocked the can of food out of Clems hand and she reached to pick it up, to the dog, she just took his food. Sam reacted to fight off the threat. I think this entire scene was realistic and even kudo's to TTG for getting the dog's emotions right.

The other comment I have is about leaving the gun on the bathroom sink and Omid's death.. I too was yelling at Clem not to put the gun down and soon as the water bottle fell under the stall, I knew something bad was going to happen.. My opinion on this, even though Lee taught Clem all he could, she is still young and going to make mistakes.. She's learning.
As for Omid dying so quickly, why not? It's possible.. I never disliked Omid and I didnt like that he died so quickly, but it's realitic, it could have happened to anyone. The only characters I personally didnt like were Larry and Ben.. Larry intentionally tried to kill Lee.. He had to go and I sided with Kenny helping to kill Larry.. Ben wasnt a bad guy, but his constant actions which either caused deaths or close call's just couldnt be ignored. I would have preferred to just kick him out, but as that wasnt an option, I dropped him in the bell tower,

I also killed both St. Johns, I shot Jolene, I killed the kidnapper.. and did my best to explain to Clem why. Chuck was right you're either alive or dead in this world so better suck it up and do whatever it takes to survive, Even biting off someone thumb.

  • One of the worse times was when she reentered the shed and I instantly knew a zombie would enter from the hole she made. I went to see if i could put the tool box or the piece of wood to cover it. Guess not. Otherwise there weren't that many anger inducing parts out of stupidity. I mean realistically I don't think anyone on this forum would do everything perfect in a zombie apocalypse. I mean she cleared the bathroom with gun, did you want her to clean her face with the gun in her hand? For people over reacting about the dog part, just stop.

  • Yes, the way that they killed off a major character and stripped away the protection that you felt as a small child in a dangerous world was just so 'lazily written.'

i agree with the gun thing. And alot of the dialog choices weren't very well written if you ask me, for example when talking to Luke at the t

  • And wake up with a nice, crusty, infected arm.. Good Job!

I agree with you. But it mostly just made me depressed. ;_; If that was me instead of Clem, I would've just asked for a blanket and slept in the shed! And I woul've said I told you so in the morning! :P

  • Wait, who else did they bring back "Just for the sake of it?"

Also, anyone who thinks that dog was unrealistic has never seen a truly starving animal get food taken away from them and just wants puppies to all be full of hugs and candy canes.

i forgot the fact that a dog by nature will NEVER bite the hand that feeds it... I wont lie, im pretty disappointed by this episode. hopef

  • Usually when a dog eats ...it REALLY doesn't need you to be around unlike a cat.

The can of beans dropped and clem tried to reach it when the dog was on it/going for it
and since it has been starving and Clem is a stranger ..it was a no brainer ...bite.

It made me mad when the dog went Bipolar on Clem just because it wanted the who can of beans Lol.
