Did you kill the Dog or leave it?
I killed it. I thought it was better to end its pain, then to leave it there wounded. Even if it tried to bite my arm off, after I tried to feed it. The video above is my playthrogh. You can see in it. I petted the dog, and offered to feed it before it tried to kill me.

I did the same thing, poor dog.
Killed it. Partly out of mercy partly because I wanted to kill it after it savaged her
It was pretty heart breaking to kill an animal already wounded. It was likely just hungry, did anyone leave it alive though. I wonder if this choice, impacts anything moving forward. I couldn't help but notice. The people who rescued you. You told them what happened, it said "They will remember this"
Wonder if that means, if they found out you were misleading them. Something different might take place. The video of the dog is twenty minutes in. In the intro, it shows the choices I made on walking dead, including have Lee get shot.
I found that the whole section took me out of the experience. I, and most of my friends, had the same reaction:
A DOG DOES NOT BEHAVE LIKE THAT.
We know Sam wasn't feral. He was socialized. And my Clem, at least, took time to properly ensure that he was a friendly dog. I can understand a hungry dog or a food aggressive dog snapping at Clem (though growling at Clem would have been far more likely). That would have been believable. But Sam lunging at Clem, attacking her while ignoring the food she just dropped (which is what Same wanted in the first place!) and then going further by trying to kill Clem (and if you fail the quicktime event, Sam will kill Clem by ripping out her throat)...none of that is believable.
Judging by the credits, many of Telltale's staff are pet owners. But they must almost all be cat people, because that scene shows an utter lack of understanding of dog psychology. It really pulled me out of the story by being so unrealistic.
Okay, Cesar Millan.
You guys are killing me with this shit.
Mercy killed.
hahaha
I couldnt agree more.
I have seen dogs atack theirs masters for taking food from them, especially from their mouth. And the dog was clearly starving. In my opinion, the dogs reaction made sense.
Killed it for mercy too. Telltale really played on my emotions with the dog sounds while he was dying.
Yeah, people do get bit by food aggressive dogs. But the dog doesn't make a killing lunge. You're making a logical leap in behavior that doesn't exist. Note that Sam ignores the food he wanted to attack Clem and kill her. That's not like a dog at all, even a starving one.
=D
Are you serious? Your one complaint on the scene is that a dog does not behave like that?? A dog albeit how friendly it seems is still a natural animal. Assuming the dog hasn't eaten in many days, I think the attack was completely warranted. The dog felt threatened by her… this is just an overall pointless comment. If you really want to go into being realistic, the fact the dog came with the family on the camping trip signifies it was probably a hunting dog so it would be used to attacking animals/ people. And yes I have a dog. A toy poodle probably isn't the hunting kind but I can assure you this scene was not far from realistic.
I killed it.
Something interesting though is that if you say 'there's only enough for one' and just keep eating (like my asshole boyfriend did on his playthrough lol), the dog slowly becomes angry and just attacks her. It's less sympathetic of a scene than when she tries to feed it.
Not to mention its wild eyes, agh.
Im not saying it's a typical behavior. Just saying it's plausible. Especialy for the fact that the dog only atacks after clementine takes the food away from his mouth(at least in my playthrough, she drops because he leaps on it, and then she takes it away from him).
a dog 2 years into an apocalypse would be more like a wolf than a dog. To me, its behavior would be to kill a threat before it turns his back and starts eating.
You've clearly never seen a dog that had been starved as long as this one, and the fact that you're trying to pretend like you're an expert on the subject is just kinda funny.
Ooh, that is interesting. Though I can still see it - he's there smelling the food and all that and wanting some and trying all of his tricks, and when those run out, all of a sudden you're the food. :P
When I was young, I was attacked by two dogs. The difference here is that I unintentionally startled them, in their territory, while their masters were away. But these were domesticated, well-fed animals, that knew me quite well. I didn't live there, but I was pretty good friends with the kids that did. I'd played with those dogs and been around them a number of times. They definitely knew who I was.
The point is, even friendly, domesticated pets can be triggered into an aggressive response. Clem was still a stranger to the dog, the animal was starving, and Clem made a mistake by trying to take the can away from it once the can hit the ground. Taking food away from a starving animal can, and probably will, trigger a response like this. You'll notice that the dog didn't go for the throat, which is what dog instinctually do when they go for a kill. It latched onto her arm in an attempt to assert it's dominance and scare her off. I didn't find this behavior unrealistic at all considering the circumstances.
The only thing I might agree with you on is failing the quicktime event leads to the dog killing her. I don't think a dog would have gone to that extreme, but Telltale needed to put in some kind of penalty for failing the event. And dogs are just like people in that they aren't all uniform, even within the same breed. It's true that some dogs, maybe even most dogs, wouldn't have reacted this way, but to say that "no dog" would have reacted like this is simply not true. Again, I didn't find anything about this unbelievable. Worst case scenario certainly, but not unrealistic.
I both agree and disagree. The fact that they made Sam look friendly and not a threat at all was wrong considering what's happening next. Hungry dogs without proper training will attack you. A dog properly trained won't attack it's owner or possibly someone he's had an encounter with more than once in his lifetime, that is if he's well fed regularly. A somewhat hungry , strangerdanger stray dog, is imprevisible and might or might not attack you if you give it food and back away. Now a starved dog, also pointing out the obvious skinny Sam and his beautiful bones poking (or almost?) through his skin, is gonna bite you if you take away his food, considering you're a complete stranger whom he just met. As for the fact that he's still attacking even after the can of beans fell, he's eliminating the threat isn't he? Once you've done it once you can do it again. I'm no expert nor do I care for it, just pointing out what already seems obvious to me. Before my dogs got trained they would snap at my hand whenever I tried to touch their food, they bit but let go as soon as they realized what's happening but that's because they knew I wouldn't do anything to hurt them or take their food away.
It's a game dude... that'd be lame as hell if the Dog was just like "OH nevermind."
I dunno, guys. Could we drop that dog topic already? This is like the 15th thread about it and to be honest, it starts to become quite annoying. Omid only got one thread (or maybe two), why can't that dog get one, too, and be done with it?
"Mercy" killed. I more just wanted to see the sorry thing dead.
Not all of the dog topics are clear as to what they're about. I'm not surprised to see several of them pop up. It had an impact of folks. For me, personally, it really took me out of the game.
No one is forcing you to read it
I put the dog out of its misery. That part was really sad. I played Frisbee with little Sam and then I kicked him in his death... Why telltale why do you give me a little friend, just to kill him again.
I know this is a troll, but I suppose I can't help myself.
I raised formerly abused animals growing up in my family. My personal dog, a St. Bernard, was starving and heavily abused when my brother found him in a park with a rope tied around his neck so tight it was bleeding. He was 80 lbs. when we found him, and around 160 lbs. when we got him healthy. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert (my mother, the director of local animal shelters where I grew up, would probably qualify), but I've seen more than my fair share of starved animals. And heavily abused animals. And even a few downright mean dogs. And after spending years upon years with those dogs, I can tell you the scene with Sam did not jive.
There are a lot of people on the internet, friend. You should be careful what you assume about them.
Woof woof
You tell em` Sam!!! :=p
No one would NOT kill it unless they were doing a bitch Clem run. This was one of the weakest choices in the whole thing. Season 1 and all. If a choice is 90% like it was when I played it, it was a poor choice. Granted, it was PAINFUL. Fuck, the last time I cringed this hard and felt this bad was here:
That was a well done CHOICE, though. This wasn't. There were reasons for both. With this, you're either a sadist or not.
