Is there a reason why the S2 group isn't using a generator?

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

Maybe there was an explanation in the comic books I missed out on, but why is the survivor group in season 2 using candles at night? Wouldn't they have found a way to supply a house that big with its own generator for electricity? Or are they afraid the noise/light will somehow draw zombies?

  • I think you just answered your own question :) That's why they are concerned about being lit up like a Christmas tree.

  • But surely they wouldn't have to turn on all the lights. They could still use the generator itself for basic comforts, or emergencies.

  • What makes you think that they have enough fuel to run a generator in the middle of the forest?

Besides that, not every log cabin (hunting cabin) even has electrical wiring.

How do you know they're "in the middle of the forest?" At the very least, one of them would have to know the way to a road in case the house was attacked or destroyed for whatever reason. Besides, gas stations are everywhere in America, and it would take a hell of a lot longer than two years for scavengers to siphon every last drop on the entire continent.

  • True, but generators are noisy pieces of kit, even the new ones. Especially in the type of area they are in. You see walkers wandering around pretty close, so if they get to hear one of those things crank up........Well enough said. Instead of a generator, what about chucking some solar panels on the roof. That would be nice n quiet.

  • Gas goes bad. It's been two years now.

  • Solar panels work well enough for the Hilltop community in the comics. But yeah, generators are noisy.
