Anyone notice season one's connection to "Dawn of the Dead (2004"?

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

It kind of ends similarly if you think about it. For those of you who haven't seen Dawn of the Dead, then yeah there'll be spoilers for that as well.
Here are the character comparisons:
Ana=Clementine (Survives like Clementine and is the main character)
Michael=Lee (Dies in the final scene)
CJ=Kenny (Sacrifices themselves to save others and they even look alike!)
Terry=Omid (Survives like Omid)
Nicole=Christa (Survives like Christa)
Steve=Ben (Because he fucked up)

  • "You ready to roll" and that movie was stupid. Not even close to live up to the original IMO.

  • I actually quite liked it. It's one of the better and more recent zombie films out there.

    Agreed. I like the original also but there's something about the remake I like.... however we're sort of meant to infer that everyone dies in the end of the remake.

  • Because the first one is Night of the Living Dead and takes place at night, the second one starts when the woman wakes up in the morning. It's supposed to be that the events of NOTLD happen the night before Dawn of the Dead.

    I still can't figure out why it's called Dawn Of The Dead, other than the fact it takes place in a mall.

  • Well, I was more so wondering why the remake has that title because it doesn't really follow the original movie or characters at all? The only thing I can recall is that they both take place in a mall, but maybe I'm missing something.

  • I do understand why some people like it. It was an OKAY movie, but it was still stupid, IMO. How can some weak housewife have an excellent shot when that's probably the first time she has held a gun? The characters i like were the black guy with the zombie baby and the black guy who says "You ready to roll" Plus when the zombies closed in on them they just stood there like a bunch of idiots. Twice that happened. Plus they run like they're on a track team.

    Maybe you guys are right, i probably have to just watch it again. But my most hated part is when they get 2 vans and get all that crazy stuff on it. You expect all of that gear to be in a shopping mall?

  • Because it's a remake...of the same movie... so they call it the same thing.

  • Well first off it's insanely easy to get all that stuff at a big, suburban shopping mall.

    Secondly, it's a movie... do people not understand this? It's a MOVIE. You have to just go with it, suspend some disbelief, relax. Just take what it gives you.

    It's a movie, big whoop. In this scenario it's a zombie apocalypse. So stuff like this will probably happen. Do you have any other excuse for it other than it's just a movie? Just because it's a movie. When i watch bad movies, let's say "Signs" for example, i don't brush off every flaw and say "Oh, it's a movie, flaws are okay!" Especially when aliens can't get through a simple wooden door and their weakness is water. Then why go to a planet covered in mostly water? But it's okay, it's just a movie!

    And i did say, i will give the movie a second chance. Whenever it comes on TV, i'll record it to my list, and watch it. Then i'll come back and say if i like it or now. Right now it's at a 2.9/5 stars. Which is decent, in my book.

  • I was responding mostly to your assertion that the part you hated most was that they couldn't get all that gear they tricked the vans out in at a shopping mall. I think it'd be pretty easy. It was mostly like aluminum siding and stuff you'd find at any home improvement store. Unless I'm forgetting something.

    Dude, for a horror movie I think 2.9/5 is amazing :-) They're all kinda silly and follow the same formula for the most part. For instance if I found myself in the middle of a cabin in the woods in the middle of the night- I'm getting my ass out of there the second my first friend dies.... but they never do. This one just sorta is what it is but I guess just for me personally I don't look for too much out of horror movies. I accept that people are going to do stupid things and make bad decisions and there's a few incredulous, what the hell are you thinking moments that are going to happen.
