2 years and 4 months

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

So im trying to put the time line of the series together.
For the game I have added the months and this is what I have. Episode is Days 1-4 then episode 2 had a 3 month skip, so theres that. episode 3 is like 2 weeks after that so no big time gap then episode 4-5 just kind of go with 3. Then theres Season 2 and Christa is obviously gonna have the kid any day so im going to say about 6-9 months have passed since lee died. Then theres that 16 month gap (that caught me way off guard) so add em up and I get 28 months.... 2 years 4 months.

On another note witch story of twd is further in the timeline Game, Comic, or Show? I don't know anything about the comic really and the show has been vague on the timeline.

  • Im not sure about the comic. I think its between 1 to 2 years but if the game is supposed to be cannon to the comic and thats about two years in than the comic must be around two years in. The show just had a time jump of about 8 months if I remember right so, I would say its been a year and a half into the apocalypse. Thats the apocalypse for you. No one keeps time anymore.

  • which not witch. had a brain fart and caught it before a grammar Nazi

  • That's what sucks about having child actors in shows like this. Between seasons the actor/luckiest kid alive is obviously going to grow taller and age. so between every season is going to be about 6-8 months. I mean look how small that kid was in season 1 compared to season 4. that's one hell of a growth spurt in 1 year. but you have a point. its the apocalypse why keep time.

Well to be fair Carl in the comic is 7 at the start and is currently 9. In the show he's 12-14. Filming of the series started in 2010 just prior to Chandler Riggs 11th birthday. If anything the change in Carl's age was done solely so that the growth spurt wasn't nearly as noticeable later on.....not that it did much good since the first two seasons were most likely a matter of weeks timeline wise with the start of the third being an eight month timeskip and the fourth being another six. Riggs was pretty scrawny at the start of the series compared to now. At least he's now at a point where additional growth isn't likely to be as noticeable or as bad between seasons once timeskips come into play.

Of course we never really do find out how long Rick was in a coma before everything goes to hell. For all we know it could be anytime between six months to a year with the actual outbreak starting a few weeks before he actually wakes up. Plus while the TV show does condense things down to two episodes before Rick finds his family we don't know how long he was searching. Time is a bit hard to pinpoint but at least Carl's age seems like it would be consistent with two years from the start of everything.

  • first of all thanks for the info I wasn't sure about the time skips or exactly when the show started since I only knew of twd since s1 e2.

I wonder if they are going to have to kill of Riggs character Carl once he starts looking more mature. I mean if the show last another 3-4 years more years they cant keep treating him like a little kid when he's 17-18.

  • I dont think they'll kill off Carl, he's too important. They can just time jump to keep up with him. It doesnt really affect the story at all. Not when the whole basic premise is just finding new places to live in and fight off enemies, zombie and human. They could easily settle somewhere for a year or so where its quiet and then the viewer come back into the story.

  • Yeah....Carl's one of those characters that I highly doubt would die unless the series was winding down and they felt they needed a massive punch to Rick in regards to things going wrong.

A timeskip of about a year between the fourth and fifth season is also highly possible considering that a recent casting call does make mention of DC. Something tells me the 2014-15 season is going to move things to Alexandria like the comic.

  • according to the comic whats next for the show?

  • Remember Walt on Lost? They just boated his puberty-wracked ass off into the sunset in season 2. Awkwardly shot from a distance to distract us from the fact he had shot up about a foot since we last saw him.

  • Well from what little I do know of the comic eventually Rick's group makes it to Alexandria, VA. That's part of the reason why a casting call for DC for season 5 stands out.

Then again you can't take everything that happens in the comic as absolute proof of something that's going to happen in the show. Sure the prison showed up and Alexandria is likely to play a role in the fifth season. However the remaining survivors in the comic are totally different than the show. Andrea is a prime example. She died at the end of the third season but is still alive in the comic. Hershel/Tyrese are two more examples. In the comic it's Tyrese that's beheaded by The Governor. In the show it's Hershel.

Hell as far as locations go both are very different. The comic starts off in Kentucky while the show has Rick already in Georgia. Overall however I'd say that 90% of the locations are the same. It's mainly the survivors that are different.
