Whats wrong with...

edited December 2013 in The Walking Dead

What do you guys think is wrong with Sarah? Her father says that she isn't like everyone else, so do you guys think there is really something wrong or that he is just being over protective?

Comments

  • Autism or aspergers is my guess..

  • She didnt seem to have any issues with social interactions which is a big thing for both of those...maybe thought im not saying your wrong

  • To be honest I don't think anything is wrong with Sarah. Carlos said she isn't like Clem because possibly Sarah was never exposed to violence or done things that clem did/ Example kill zombies, sneak out sheds, steal stuff. Now because Clem's in the group Carlos fears Sarah will end up like Clem. If Sarah was Autistic there would need to be an adult in the room to help her. People with Autism sometimes need support and people to be with them. Sarah's just a normal girl who never been exposed to the zombie world yet.

  • Yeah i can see that i mean from what we have seen of Sarah the only thing ive noticed is that she is too trusting but that could just be because she is sheltered from the world like you said

  • Yes her situation is like this book I read called Among The Hidden very good and sad book. It's about a boy whose parents were not allowed to expose him to the world. The only thing he could do was stay in one place which was the attic which was his bedroom :/. If he was seen I think he would be killed. Due to his parents keeping him inside the house through his life he had no idea what the world was like. People who were never exposed to the real world tend to have their own reality and when exposed to people they feel they can be friends and trust that person. This boy in the book wanted to have friends and explore the real world but his parents would not let them. So yea Autism is not what Sarah has she's just among the hidden because her father is too protective of her. Hanging with Clem puts her at risk about knowing what reality is. That's why Sarah said she never seen a kid her age. She's inferring Clem's her age but really has no clue. She has not been exposed to the real world so she wouldn't know. There's three stages to Autism. Communication, Behavioral, and Repetitive. Sarah doesn't have repetitive or behavioral Autism. People are inferring she has Communication Autism because the way she communicates with people. She might not have Autism she has good communication. She may have ADD though or Anxiety affiliated with shyness and fear of her dad and people. I could be wrong though XD

I think Sarah (and Carlos) are foils to Clementine (and Lee). I think Sarah and Carlos represent the wrong path that Lee could have taken when protecting Clementine (i.e., being over-protective, sheltering her too much, not preparing her for surviving on her own).

It wouldn't surprise me if something happens to Carlos (and the group) and Clem ultimately gets stuck looking after clueless Sarah.

  • That could be a pretty good twist...in a way. Watching her teach Sarah everything Lee taught her. Its a reversal and it would be interesting to see her in that role

  • She's not autistic, she just doesn't act her age.

  • I'm pretty sure that's autistic. I myself have Asperger's syndrome, but I'm not 100% sure if that's the case here. She might just be slow in general.

  • That's not what autism is. It's pretty hard to explain in words for me. I have 2 autistic people in my family. They certainly can't hold a conversation where they actually react and reply to the other person like Sarah could, even if she is a bit weird.

I'm sure there are other types of autism, but you are probrobly right. Ironic that I have autism and I'm not even familiar with how it works. One thing is for certain, she is... strange.
Great, now this is going to bug me. I have to look into this. To google I go!

  • I think when people mention autism they actually mean she has a disorder in the autism spectrum. This could be autism, Asperger syndrome or pdd-nos.
The capabilities of people in the spectrum vary greatly from person to person. It ranges from very severe to very mild.

But I think it's mostly the fact she's immature. Also I think she's aware of the zombie apocalypse but doesn't really know how serious it is. Which I found a little odd. I've heard of people who sadly keep their children away from the outside world for whatever reason but in a scenario like this that might be a bit difficult. Carlos also comes off a bit irrational as well because while playing the game is was thinking "Well ok but what if a horde of walkers, an army of bandits, or this Carver guy and his crew come to attack? What then?"

Yes her situation is like this book I read called Among The Hidden very good and sad book. It's about a boy whose parents were not allowed to

  • She most likely constipated. What is why she would cease to function if she found out how bad it is.

That is part of the reason i made Clementine tell Carlos that she needs to grow up and he got angry with me for it, She needs to learn how to defend herself if something bad happens like Clementine with the stranger in S1, I don't think i would trust her with a gun yet as she seems a bit too immature but we might get to see another slightly more mature side to her in Episode 2.

  • very good point there, and there is a hint of that happening with the option of Clem telling Carlos that she needs to grow up, where he replies angrily and doesn't trust her. It would be great if there was a point in the next episode where Clem can try to convince Carlos to stop sheltering Sarah and maybe mention Lee. Carlos' over-protectiveness could be a detriment to the group, so I'll be keeping a close eye on him and try to keep on the good side of the group. Good that Clementine didn't end up like her, LONG LIVE CHUCK - THE REAL HERO!!!
