Agreed. Remember Jurassic Park? Delayed, released as a complete season, $40 retail. And sure that game sucked anyway, but there was something really sad about the cliffhangery episodic writing being robbed of its proper release format. If Telltale were ever to INTENTIONALLY release a non-episodic game, it would need to be designed as such.
Imagine if you had to wait a month or more for a tv episode wether it's TWD or any other series you might enjoy. Imagine if Breaking Bad had 1 month between each episode. My interest would have died quickly and going into the next episode I wouldn't even remember half the shit that went down in the previous one.
I think episodic gaming isn't bad. Infact I enjoy it that way. It gives me a chance to spread things out a little. Usually I get a game, I sit down for god knows how long and depending on the game, I will probably beat it in 1 or 2 sittings and a day or two later the excitement is basically gone for any potential sequel because even if there is one, I know it's going to take a LONG time to come out.
Episodic gaming keeps the excitement alive. IF it's done right. And quite frankly, I don't think TTG is doing it right.
Love the games but TTG needs to do it differently. Look at TWAU. Brilliant game. 3 months later we still don't have episode 2. Thats stupid.
Don't think so. I interact with everything and double check some spaces just to make sure I don't miss anything. Not sure how long it took me … morebut if you look at the play throughs on youtube, most take about an hour and a few minutes and these are people commentating too.
Just to confirm this, I went and totalled up some Let's Play times for three people who did TWD Season 2. General time is a little over an hour and a half, not an hour. That's around how long it took me, as well, if I recall correctly.

It seams you haven't played half life 2 and the episodic unlike this game ,half life eps were longer.
But actually you don't know they might surprise us and make the game longer.I really hope so and they said they will make it better
Except there was a TWAU announcement like a week ago. Also don't tell Telltale what to make, they will finish TWD and TWAU before the other to projects come out so calm your shit.
I agree, I hate episodic gaming. Waiting 2 months or more in between each episode really kills my interest in the game. It would be slightly… more more tolerable if episodes lasted longer than 1.5 hours, last season each episode other than the last took me at least 2.5 hours... When I play these episodes, I am more worried about how long they are going to last than what is going on in the story...
I bought all of Season 1 at once, and after I finished it I felt like I could pay $200 for Season 2 and be satisfied. Now I am wondering if I will still be interested in the game in the 2 months (or probably more) that it will take for the next ultra-short episode to be released. I think that 1 month would be more tolerable, but still excessive.
If a 1 hour episode is the cost of having choices that matter, I would much rather have the faux-choices that we were given last season.
Telltale is also working on way too many projects at once. They s… [view original content]
Game development takes time and it's not like Telltale make all the episodes in advance. Telltale's current model allows them to take into acc… moreount all the feedback they get from an episode and made the next episodes better for it.
I'm very much of the opinion that it doesn't matter how long it takes so long as the episodes are consistently good.

* Cryaotic: About an hour and 55 minutes

Fair enough I suppose, still I think if he didn't like it so much he should have waited. Also is he complaining about a lack of a trailer for TWD or TWAU because if it's TWD fuck off, it just came out, if it's TWAU then yea they really fucked up there.
If they were completely written beforehand, it would rather destroy the whole point of the episodic gaming structure. Episodic gaming means the writers can adjust to fan response in later episodes, changing the things everyone hates and adding more of what people request.
They almost certainly have a broad outline of where they're going and what they're doing. But many of the details will only be established as we progress into the story.
what? As other have stated I like episodic gaming and the concept of it IF it is done right but telltale is a mess when it comes to this. I really don't like that they don't have set release dates or any public time tables.

Well all I heard is that TWD S2 and TWAU will both be released in the first quarter of next year. So from next month-the March 31st. Better than nothing I suppose...

Well they don't work that way. I get it you don't like it but they aren't going to change for you and besides lot's of people like it. The whole gaming industry doesn't have to work one way. There can be multiple ways to make games.

face palm . . .you clearly are missing my point. Do I think they need to change it? Yes but not just because of me. Clearly there are others who feel the same way. If anything I would say I am in the majority. As I just said: Episodic gaming is unique and could really differentiate your game but if you can't create solid release dates or hold up to your promises than don't do episodic. I just think a month and more is WAY too much for an hour gameplay.
Well they don't work that way. I get it you don't like it but they aren't going to change for you and besides lot's of people like it. The whole gaming industry doesn't have to work one way. There can be multiple ways to make games.
"A release date is to be announced after the holidays," is this what you are speaking of? One would expect more after 2.5 months of waiting. Q1 2014 is not a sufficient estimate of its release. It will take more than a few screenshots to excite genuine interest from the playerbase. At least TWAU episodes have proven to be of a sufficient length, the first episode took me around 3 hours to complete. I at least know with this that I will be getting plenty of content for my wait.
Anyways, it's not as if I am assaulting the Telltale forums with complaints concerning their many projects. I made one comment suggesting that Telltale has its development teams spread too thin. Do you imagine me angrily slamming my keyboard as I type, unable to catch my breath in a fit of rage? My complaints were perfectly reasonable and not at all melodramatic. Your comment, however, is needlessly hostile.
Except there was a TWAU announcement like a week ago. Also don't tell Telltale what to make, they will finish TWD and TWAU before the other to projects come out so calm your shit.
This season nothing, since it's the first episode and all. While many main plot points for season 1 were set in stone, like Lee dying (RIP buddy) others were not. For say, a character may be known to come in an episode and leave in another, but how they come and go is another story.
Although they may, like I said, make small adjustments they have the entire story board up and that will not change. If you think telltale is … morejust writing the story by episode you are wrong. No video game does that. The writers know exactly how episode 5 will end.
The thing is do we always want certain thingsto happen even if we'd like them to? I'd kind of rather they write the story the best way possible than the way want or don't want.
Really!?finally meaningful choice outcome, that means there's going to be two stories in episode 2 and they will stop making us choose between two I hope they will not make us choose between Sarah or someone else.Do you have the link of the interview or something.
The reason the episode is short us because they made the Nick/Pete choice occur after about an hour and a half. In an interview, one of the de… morevelopers said that choice's effects are going to have such a major role in the story that going into them would be too much for episode 1. I have a feeling that the next episode will be slightly longer.
I think its a load of bs. Pete will die. They need to keep the stories the same. I don't think telltale has the revenue or resources to handle a completely "unique" story for everyone.

I want to be wrong. I just have a feeling that telltale is stringing us the players along again. Season 1 was pathetic at how they handled the release dates especially because they came out and said "the episode will be out this week" then not hold up to it.
Nope. Small things changing is great. Characters being invulnerable because of fans isn't. Like Daryl, he's great but the fangirls have made him invulnerable
Now I worry the wait between episodes will be even longer what with Telltale juggling The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead Season 2.
It's already been 3 months since TWAU Ep 1 was released and Ep 2 hasn't even had a release date mentioned yet? Not feeling to optimistic about TWD S2 E2.
I agree with all of you the first episode of season 2 is really short because telltale was very busy in these days but the episode 2 of the walking dead season 2 will be at least 2 hours
I was just thinking to wait for all episodes to release. I just want steadiness. Not that bullshit. You dont know if it going to be tommorow or half year later. Fuck this. Telltale tell us on what interval will episodes be released.
Well they could release the whole game and people would be done within 5 hours and the next season comes out next year. Its not about telltale staying true to deadlines, its about you wanting to play the whole game in a day because its just that good and you have a patience. I promise you, they have a good reason to delay episodes. I will be fine if they do as long as they keep up the good quality in their game.

Understandable. I only play two maybe 3 other games for xbox so this game wouldn't cut into my budget too much.

nope, took about an hour and 20 min for most of them.
not in my experience.
That is the basic story concept, not it's content or dialog.
Yeah, AFTER THEY RELEASED IT FOR A YEAR AND PUT THE PRICE DOWN!
Just to confirm this, I went and totalled up some Let's Play times for three people who did TWD Season 2. General time is a little over an hour and a half, not an hour. That's around how long it took me, as well, if I recall correctly.
Valve is about the single worst example you could cite of a company doing episodic gaming well.
Okay hold up if you don't like episodic gaming why did you buy the game. You could have just waited for it all to be out ?
Just because he buys and likes the game doesn't necessarily mean he needs to like episodic games or at least how TTG handles it.
Except there was a TWAU announcement like a week ago. Also don't tell Telltale what to make, they will finish TWD and TWAU before the other to projects come out so calm your shit.
I'm with you, take your time but don't disappoint.
^ Exactly. Thank you.
Then I was wrong. Feels shorter I guess.

Depends what you mean by small. I'll direct you to my comment to Leon above. ^
Most people would disagree I think.

except I never got lost or confused..
Thumbs up.

the point of episodic games is to adapt to gamer feedback. thats why the games end up being so good.

Aggressive but I agree.
