I'm hoping that Pete actually survives. Maybe TT wanted you on purpose to go after Nick instead of Pete? I don't know, that's just my opinion. Worst case scenario, Pete dies but the group sees and treats Clem with more respect as someone above said. Go after Nick... Oh well, you get the idea.
If you read the comics, you'd know that it's gotta be fast. Like instantly get bitten and cut off. Same with Lee, it's going to be WAY too late to cut it off and not have the virus spread.
I would really like him to survive, but I doubt he will whether his leg is amputated or not. Hopefully he'll at least live through all episode 2 though.
I think it will end up being the same thing as Lee: the infection may have already spread and he may live through one more episode then die. I'm worried about Nick, though.
We're looking at a Hershel situation here. It is possible to stop the infection if the limb is severed directly after the bite, or somewhere less than half an hour, I'm assuming. If Pete is able to reach the necessary tools quick enough, and avoid losing too much blood, he can make it. Lee wasn't able to stop the infection because it had probably been around 45 to 60 minutes by the time he cut his arm off, meaning the infection had spread to other parts of his body. This may not be the case here.
Consider that Lee doesn't get his blackouts if you cut off his arm. If he was already too infected for it to be effective, then he should have had blackouts regardless of whether or not he cut off his arm. Also, nobody in the group is a doctor and apparently all that was done is bandage the stump which doesn't stop blood loss. In addition, during two playthroughs where I cut then kept the arm, I noticed that if you kept the arm, Lee looks more like a walker and is much sicker whereas if you cut it off, Lee looks relatively well albeit much paler. Furthermore, in the comics, Dale was bitten and didn't have his leg cut off until much later and he survived.
This is the comic continuity and the infection will stop spreading if you cut the limb off. If you don't cut off Lee's arm, he faints several more times throughout the episode. If you do cut off the arm, it's from blood loss because it wasn't cut off correctly. After Lee faints and wakes up during the procedure, there's drops of blood dripping from his stump which is a very bad sign since it means it wasn't cut off properly.
I'm hoping it's like Ben where he's just around for a few more episodes and dies conclusively in like episode 3 or 4 or something. Of course, for all we know Nick might bite it if you don't save him but we'll probably find out in episode 2.
I hope whoever you save lives more than the first 5 minutes of the episode though, then I feel it would just be pointless having a bug choice of saving them. At least have them live till episode 3 like Carley/Doug
I remember Telltale complaining awhile ago how so many players picked Carley over Doug because it meant they didn't make the choice hard enough. I'm glad Pete got bit because if he wasn't bitten, I guarantee that 80% of players would've saved Pete over Nick.
The same dilemma was in Around Every Corner, with the choice of saving Ben. Play testers almost always saved him when coming to that option, so Telltale went back and made Ben even more of an idiot to influence players' choices a bit more. They can never make the choice too easy, like they did with Doug/Carley,

In the comics it was Dale who lost his leg, not Hershel. Lee died from blood loss, not from the infection itself. If you cut it off, he doesn't have his fainting spells, but if you don't, he faints several times throughout the episode. He lost too much blood and exerted too much energy getting Clem back to survive.

can't help but think it's like the Carley/Doug choice. It wuld be too straining to create two very different storylines if you saved Pete or not. So I'm guessing he survives the amputation but either dies of blood loss, is lost along the way somehow or maybe the cabin survivors might shoot him or leave him alone. There's a reason TellTale put in the part about how Nick's mum died and I think it will culminate in a massive choice for the survivors with Clementine possibly having a choice in the matter. But either way I don't think he'll make it beyond Episode 2, even though he's a great character

If you cut lee's arm he dies because of blood loss, not because of the infection.
Why would Clem need to shoot a man dying of blood loss? He was obviously in the early zombie stages.

It's not the bite that turns you into a walker. He was going to turn from the blood loss anyway. Like the guy from the beginning of Ep2.
Crap, you're right. I wasn't even thinking. How can you be sure it was from blood loss, though?

The OP should include the link in the opening post. That gives me the impression that Pete survives if you rescue him.

Yup. Hopefully Pete/Nick will make some kind of significant change

Yeah, hopefully Clem and Pete cut it off in time
