I agree that silencers would be a great help for the survivors. But they are not very common and not usable by every gun. However, with right materials it's possible to make homemade suppressors, they probably wouldn't last very long and might also be unreliable, but they would do the trick. The problem is, I don't think many people bothered to gain such knowledge before the outbreak. Edit: just google "homemade suppressors" and there are a lot of recipes actually. Heh, too bad they don't have access to the internet in TWD.
I enjoy discussion and debate, but both sides need to make sense for it to be interesting. When the points the person is trying to make have no logic behind them I will be the first to call bull. It isn't situational, give me a situation where the gun being quiet is worse than it being loud in a ZA, and the situation must be one where you couldn't remove the silencer (from what? Not having a hand? I'd like fewer zombies if I were down a literal hand..) The point of the media being the place we would look is the point I was trying to make, and was exactly what I said. Those who did not have survival training prior to an end of the world scenario would look to things they remember from their lives to help them survive, most of which would be forms of media (movies, shows, books, etc.) and in that media, or conversations with people, or hear tell they would hear about a silencer, the probability of them not hearing about one is hilariously low. Would people following media ideas die first? Debatable. And lastly do you know why people don't look up silencer on Google? They already know what it is...
Hey man, there's absolutely no reason to be rude just because somebody doesn't see eye to eye with you. Why come to a website based heavily on… more discussion and debate when you're going to get mad and take low blows if someone doesn't agree with you? It just takes all of the fun out of everything.
That being said, there's no dumbing it down, theres no being stubborn, etc. Like I said in my previous post, its entirely situational, a silenecer would be useful sometimes and others it wouldnt. Again, its not the miracle tool you're making it out to be. That right there shows I'm not being stubborn as I'm partially agreeing with you. And my point with the media is that sure it would happen, but that doesn't make it a good idea and I think you'd end up dead way sooner going about things this way. And following your train of thought, you can go to google and see "what is a gun silencer" is a popular search query.
Like I said before, respectfully agree… [view original content]
It isn't about being a pro soldier, it's about having common sense. The gun is silent when put into a pillow... now how do you make the mobile? "cause I don't feel like talking bout this." and yet you answered. Derp.
maybe so, I live in Houston. but if I made it out of the city I definitely wouldn't be wasting resources. and I wouldn't be trying to go out of my way to fight the walkers and waste useful supplies on a silencer. you've obviously never heard a silencer in real life outside of a James Bond movie. That bwoop sound it makes echos and only works at long range witch at that point you've already out ran them so why waste the bullet.
What? Its not a flaw at all. People aren't going to just find silencers. Home made ones usually last one shot (based off TV/ movies/ common sense.) People are so peculiar about odd stuff. Like this and the "dog scene being unrealistic" . . .both instances are pretty common and certainly realistic. If the person doesn't find a silencer I don't think they would actively seek one.
I certainly wouldn't go looking for a silencer that MIGHT be there. and its not like you can duck tape a pillow to a gun. If you found one that fit your gun consider yourself very very lucky but I think the people that did find them probably got careless and cocky and were among the first to die. Like Morgan said "The weak have inherited the Earth" cause they were smart enough to not go actively hunting them down.

............ Ignorance is bliss I suppose. One more thing.... did you just type ranned? I better get out of here, I hope whatever you have isn't contagious! xD

How many people even have this knowledge, though? The majority of people who have their stories shown on TWD (and in general) aren't weapons e… morexperts or even enthusiasts. Most probably don't even know what a silencer is, guns are simply something they have to include in their everyday lives now, regardless of how they view firearms. Not to mention that professionally made silencers don't even completely silence a gun, if a makeshift one is even worse then what's the point? It'd be a waste of resources.
lol ok you called me on the typing "ranned" I thought that sounded stupid. (grammar Nazi) like the other person and 50 others that disagreed with you im just going to agree to disagree, cause this is going no where and im not going to try to change your mind fellow Walking Dead fan.

EXAMPLE SENTENCE- I we the storent to WHEN I ACTUALY TYPED I went to the store..... so it may have not even been my error.

give me a situation where the gun being quiet is worse than it being loud in a ZA, and the situation must be one where you couldn't remove the silencer
Sure, but let me just first state I never said a gun being quiet is better than it being loud. All I'm saying is that I don't think a silencer is quite as useful as you're saying or worth the time and effort. As it's been said many times, silencers do not completely silence a gun, and a makeshift one would be even worse. Even if there are zombies yards away you're still going to attract them. You definitely will attract less than with an unsuppressed gun, but why bother spending the energy and resources crafting a silencer that still results in a very noisy weapon, when you can just kill them with a melee weapon, which is drastically more quiet and efficient (in terms of having no ammo). Even in TWD, the sounds of Clem screaming from inside a shed attracts a walker, even though when she escapes walkers can be see a pretty good distance away, and that was in the forest. Imagine being in a city like Macon where there were walkers pretty much hiding in every corner or even Savannah, where you had to draw them out with the bells because they were everywhere, even where you couldn't see them or expect them.
There are even articles online that state that the decibel level of a suppressed gun is that of a jackhammer, now that's not much to go on since a lot factors into how quiet the gun can be, but how is a makeshift silencer supposed to do any better than that? It definitely boils down to scenario, if you're in an isolated area or walkers are far enough away that they wouldn't hear the shot, or you could run away even if suspicion was aroused then the silencer is fine. Or even if you had enough ammo to take care of any in the immediate area that you did attract, but again, that's situational. But with a gun, silenced or not, you have to take into consideration ammo, the makeshift silencer breaking or failing, trying to gather the resources to craft the silencer (given that you don't already have this knowledge) and time and energy that could otherwise be spent hunting and taking care of other essentials for survival. I simply just don't see a silencer as being that useful.
And lastly do you know why people don't look up silencer on Google? They already know what it is...
I wrote that it's a popular search query.
Not really going to touch on the media issue as I agree it's debatable, but I never disagreed that media wouldn't be looked to. And again as I've said too many times now, I just don't see eye to eye with you. I respect your stance and I'm truly considering it (i'm putting way too much effort into fucking forums) but I just don't agree man.

You literally typed soooo much and never gave a situation where having a more silent gun is worse than having a loud one, because that situation doesn't exist. I have realized that I don't even need to argue any other points you are making, since the situation is non-existant. "You definitely will attract less," thank you. Can we end this now?

I do, but I also recall a lot of moments where a silencer wasn't used because it was unnecessary and wasn't feasible.

that's true or at least carry a melee weapon as well

what about Rick he's a police officer, he should know what is a silencer

Ok well sorry for that. I think part of me getting defensive on you is cause I read everything you type with Larrys voice. lol
He was one of my favorite characters xD He was suck a dick!
ill admit I didn't appreciate him till he said he had charm coming out his ass and realized he was an elderly version of myself.

Because I never said that lol, it's been done dude.
"You definitely will attract less than with an unsuppressed gun," You didn't say that? Because I'm reading it right now in your last post...
Suppressors are exactly common for the average joe to buy...
