Only person in the comics who I can think of that wanted to be turned into a walker was Jim, and that was more because of a kind of strange penance due to the death of his family that he felt responsible for.

I think killing anyone who was bitten is stupid. The charactes know nothing about more medical aspects of the infection. What if there's a small percentage of people who have anti-bodies in their blood? Like, one in 1000. And by killing him they'll never know. If you played "The Last of Us" you'll know exactly what I mean. They could bring this person in the lab, study him, create a vaccine. But they'll never know, because in TWD world thousands of people die before they even get bitten.
It's better to wait until you start to turn, to know for sure, and then shoot yourself.
