Will TWD Be Considered "One of the Greats"?
Imagine,
five friends are sitting around at a table. It's the year 2026. One of them starts reminiscing about their childhood, and then they all start remembering the best and greatest games they could remember. One of them brings up Super Mario Bros., and another says "Ocarina of Time" instantly. One guy says Bioshock and Left 4 Dead, and another brings up GTA V (Inevitably). But will the words "The Walking Dead" ever come up?

GTA V? No... TWD? I can see it as one of the greats, that's for sure, it's very hard to make people care about fictional characters.
Yes. And hopefully Wolf Among Us
They will definitely come from me. The Walking Dead is one of the best games I've played in my life if not the best.
L4D seriously? I love L4D too but its not single player, its just excellent mp shooter but thats it. TWD will definitely be remembered same as Half Life or Deus Ex games are remembered now.
For the emotional response it gets, it will definitely be remembered, and I think any future games that other companies make that want an emotional response would take a few tips from TWD.
Oh, I think it will. At the very least, Season 1 will be remembered for the great storytelling and characterization. As for Season 2, we'll just have to wait and see.
I will remember TWD for the rest of my life, so I'll definitely bring it up sometime in the future.
Left 4 Dead? Who would bring up Left 4 Dead?
i will never forget what this game brought to me and i will always spread the word of the game so others can have the same experience
I tried doing that, but they never seem interested whenever I show them. It hurts my feelings
me 2 they don't know what they are missing out on i even have a clem hat
I know, right?! Maybe I should add that to my hat collection
u should
Me
It took me a year before I got my brother into the game. He was reluctant to try it out since he dislikes point & click games, but I finally got him to give the first episode a shot. He ended up really liking it. Bought the whole season, the DLC, and is playing season 2 as the episodes come out. So, don't give up, TWDFan86. You might still be able to get folks to give the game a chance. Just might take a little bit. As for the topic of the post, I think it will be considered one of the greats imo. I list it as one of my favorite games when guys ask what I enjoy playing, and I'm sure it'll still be on my list in 2026. :P
Me too. Been playing L4D2 since the day it came out. Still play nightly.
my cousin is reluctantly playing the first season after a ton of convincing and i can only hope he sticks with it
My sister is one of the people I'm trying to get interested in the game. I showed her episodes 1 and 2, but we never went any further. I guess I'll keep trying, though
WHAT? L4D was amazing. There coming out with Evolve later this year which should be an amazing game because its made by the same people with a similar concept but more of the TAAAAAANNK! gamemode as its multiplayer
I'd bring it up too.
Im not saying it isn't fun, its a lot of fun especially if the people you are paying with are cool. But it has no emotional impact, there are excellent and thought provoking games like Mass Effect 1, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Bioshock infinite that are way more memorable. I count TWD and TWAU in that category.
The Walking Dead and The Last Of Us are the only two games I'll remember forever. Fucking unforgettable experiences. They are the only two games I've ever played to get a 10/10 from me, and I'm pretty fucking strict and stubborn and have extremely high standards too...
We'll be talking to our grandchildren about it and how it revolutionized gaming.
Then they'll laugh at how old we are, put on their Tron looking suits and literally jump into their virtual reality gaming experience.
Same lol. Forced my brother to play it while he was here for break (he left today) and he loved it alot lol. He was kinda sad that he wont play ep 2&3 on time lol
It's really hard to say. On one hand you have an excellent gaming experience in TWD; on the other hand, it's awfully short. In order to remember games properly, they need to make a lasting impact over a lot more time than TWD has.
Currently, the only game I have worth mentioning at that table would be Baldurs Gate 2; others might bring up Planescape: Torment as a game from about the same time period.
Don't get me wrong, TWD is a great game, but too short and the player can't make a big enough impression on the outcome or the gameplay for the game for (at least) me to remember it with the same fondness as other games.
The Walking Dead will always be on the top of my list. FOR-EVER. I'll certainly remember it.
It will definitely be remembered as the best zombie game that doesnt focus on racking up headshots
Yes, watching how clementine dies is verry funny and enjoyable.
I was skeptical about the game when i first heard about it. I wasn't that fond of point and click games, not to mention i knew little to nothing about TWD. I started playing, and from the first minute i was hooked! I also started watching the show and even brought 5 volumes of the comics. To answer your question, yeah, it will. Considering we have at least one more season ahead of us, maybe even 2? Which started with a bigger bang than the last season IMO, we still have a long way to go:)
It's a popular game but unfortunately it's not so popular that people will be talking about it in the same vein they do Mario.
I'll say it forever, TWD is one of the best games i've ever played, but i don't see many people will remember this game as one of the great in future, the most it'll get will be "Remember TWD? It was cool" . As years passes more people will consider a good game = good graphics, good online, more weapons etc. we're already losing the gaming industry to that logic....At least Telltale is on our side
It's not gonna be widely known in the future, but when mentioned to the ones who played it, it will surely bring them some refreshing memories and you'll be able to talk about it for a long time. It's one of the small things that don't seek for attention, but will surely remembered by the ones that tried it.
I honestly doubt it, the only reason it won game of the year in 2012 was because BioWare and Blizzard shit the bed with Mass Effect 3 and Diablo 3.
Also so far Walking Dead as been one game(I'm counting each season as one individual game. since even combined it's still short compared to other story driven games), if the other games(seasons) aren't as good as the first one, it will never be mentioned as a top game series.,
It's like Dragon Age: Origins, easily one of the best games this generation, but will people ever say the Dragon Age series is one of the best? No, because Dragon Age 2 was not at the level it should have been.
in 2026 certainly still speak of call of duty ... xD
seriously, the walking dead is the best thing that ever happened to me. That's right, "the thing", because it is not just a game, but it's something that video games today (and it is hoped that in the future this thing will understand) do not have ... then, if people understand, then we will talk about a lot of The Walking Dead. Thank You TTG!!
