Why didn't they just introduce Luke and Pete as the shadows?
Instead of killing off Omid and getting rid of Christa abruptly, why didn't we just have Clementine be alone and find Luke and Pete and she follows them for a little bit but is attacked by Sam at some point and then they find her and the rest of the episode ensues? That way, you can bring Omid and Christa back for more character development instead of just killing them off. Because they kind of ended up being a waste.

because pete and nick are in north carolina, and not outside savannah XD
It didn't have to take place in North Carolina.
It gave time for Clem to grow up, laid the ground work for Christa and the baby which I'm sure will play a part with Rebecca, and of course we had to watch 'Hope' die within 5 minutes of the start. The biggest one, I think, is the time jump so Clem has time to adapt better. Also so they could be closer to the group up north that Tavia was recruiting for perhaps?
There could've been a time jump after they found her and the entire cabin situation. She could've ended up staying with them for a while and then Carver and his group could cause trouble later. I'm just saying. It's a theoretical. I found Omid and Christa's build up to be really wasted and every time I play the end of season one, it disappoints me to know that their characters go nowhere after Lee's heroics.
Well Christa's character does a lot after Lee dies, even if we don't actually see most of it. If she would have gone with those two then the entire story would have to be rewritten, which is fine, but then we might as well be asking why weren't those two people Nate and Russel, or two random bandits, or Tom and Jerry.
