Is Steve Carver?
I thought this the second Clementine meets the cabin group. First, let me explain why I think they could be Steve's former group:
The descriptions fit all, except the cop. I DON'T think it's Luke, but I'll come to that.
Pretty obvious. When Russel talks to Nate about his group, he mentions 'a father and his daughter'. That would be Carlos and Sarah.
He also mentions a teacher and his wife. Alvin and Rebecca.
Now the tricky part: The cop who noone believed he was a cop was NOT Luke. Remember the scene in the kitchen/dining room? Luke tells Clementine that they wanted to 'heal' someone who was bitten, and he died and killed Nick's mom. THAT was the cop guy. He got bit and died.
Here's why this could still work with Steve's 'magical number' (seven):
I know his border was seven, but after Russel left them, who says they picked someone new up/met someone? They are six (Carlos, Sarah, Alvin, Rebecca, cop and Steve) when they arrive at the cabin. Steve wants to do what he always does: kill Nick, his mom, Pete AND Luke, who were hiding in the cabin.
But his group finally decided that they had enough of him and kicked him out, so later he becomes Carver, and he now wants to kill them/make them pay for what they did to him.
It's just a thought, so don't hate on me TOO much

It's really an interesting theory, but I remember that Russel said that the daughter was "about his age". Russel is probably 20 and Sarah is too much younger.

Sarah is 15, I don't think Russel is 20 he seemed more 16/17 to me.

I think this is highly possible , Ever since I met the cabin group and heard about Carver I've been thinking about this it fits him perfectly , Besides it would bring 400 days right into the Season 2 Mix

Maybe Telltale planned on making Sarah older, but they thought her state (mental state, I mean) would stand out better if she was younger? Dunno.
Then it would all fit together because sarah is only 15
Sorry but Russell graduated from College so he is 20 at least , Even if the picture is from his High School Graduation he had to be at least 18 to graduate from High school
Let's do some math
Russel found Nate 184 days after the day "zero" and seemed late teen (minimum 17/18 I think).
We found Sarah about 2/3 years after the day "zero" and she was 15; so if she was the daughter she would have 12/13 years when Russel was with Steve's group.

What he means is that she was younger when Russel left the group. Still, I wouldn't dwell only on that point.
Sorry I did a little mess with my last post. I wanted to say that if you do some counts, you can find out that when Russel is talking to Nate, Sarah is probably 12/13, so much younger than him.
It's a good theory, but Russel said there was a man with a daughter "Around his age". He was much older than Sarah (Granted Sarah is only fifteen and Russ is around... 17 maybe 18 is my guess, but I doubt he would develop feelings for her to get defensive when Nate talks about her in a vague manner. He may have a "protective relationship" with her and felt responsible for her, like a brother-sister relationship.) There is also a problem with your "magic number": In the kitchen conversation, they stumbled upon the cabin (All of them) in order to hide from Carver, which means they weren't there that long, maybe a month or so. That means that if Steve is in fact Carver, then he wouldn't be with them at the cabin, because they were HIDING from Carver there.
Really? When did they say they were hiding from him? To me, it also seems as if they would have been there much longer than a month.

Ok...still, I don't think there is another group out there, with a teacher and his wife, probably with a daughter and her dad, I agree.

Maybe Rebecca's baby would up the count beyond 7 and Steve wanted to get rid of it so it wouldn't ruin his magic number.
So whoever was against it ran away with Rebbeca.
Its an okay set up to the backstory... but it bit clumsy with your 'magic seven' theory. Steve, or Carver does not know about the cabin, they are hiding there remember? I still think that is an cool theory still.

He does not know about the cabin, I agree. At least not at the moment. But in the preview for episode 2 there is some guy (who possibly is working for Carver) knocking on the door, and this might be the moment when they realize that Carver knows about the cabin.
Wow, I didn't even think about Steve, this is actually a really good theories. A couple of holes(Sarah isn't Russel's age, the 'magic number' thing), but it seems pretty solid.

Carver - Crawford
Those names, when spoken, sound quite alike imo.
The Crawford guy died in Season 1, during the fall of Crawford. He was the zombie hanging at the bell tower.
