I'm a little disappointed, actually... (Review of EP2)
The new episode did not live up to my expectations. And it's not about the delay, but what the actual content is.
The whole episode felt... weak. It didn't have something that stood out as, you know, great. Nothing that left me amazed, which happend several times last episode.
There were several bugs that annoyed me. And the choices were very confusing. For example the interrigation scene. I was mostly friendly to Dee, but I did punch him one time, because he wasn't answering. I even defended him from Blackbeard. And then Snow and Mr. Toad gets angry at me. Was I REALLY doing something that awful?
It's things like these that have made me afraid of using a little more angry Bigby, like in the comics. I did nothing to Georgie, and went soft on Beast, because I don't want everyone to hate me. The whole Georgie scene was completely ruined because of this. I just kept walking around, doing nothing and making empty threaths.
No way to talk Beast down either. No reward for telling him the truth about Beauty earlier. Beast is one of my favourite characters in the comic, and I didn't want to hurt him.
The story isn't going anywhere exciting either. Or it isn't doing a good job of it. If you read the comics, all the arcs are suspenseful and exciting all the way to the end. And in TWD and BTTF, new episodes brought up new storylines and locations. This episode felt more like a half-finished extension of the first episode.
And the ending... let's just say, it's pretty obvious that Crane isn't the real guilty party here. It felt like a cheap cliffhanger that doesn't leave me excited for the next part.
What I did like? Interactions with Snow. Interactions with the Little Mermaid. That's about it, I'm afraid.
I love you Telltale. But please... you have to fix this. I know you can. The first episode was amazing!

After four months you get your expectations high and you dont want to settle for good you need great and it wasn't. I agree that it was weaker then the first episode and it really risks the game. I never had doubts about the game but now i do. They need to do something amazing to make this interesting.
Yeah, i agree with everything you said, but i think the episode forced you WAY to much to be good guy Bigby, everytime i wanted to do something i would be juged. I mean c'mon! An interogation scene that you have to be nice, otherwise everyone hates you is really cheap.
It's strange, because this isn't Telltale's first time doing these games.
Episode 2 of Back To The Future was awesome. Dressing up as a ganster and having a showdown with Kid Tannen was exciting and new. You also got to know about young Emmett and Edna more. The ending of that episode blew my mind, and waiting on Episode 3 was probably the hardest I've ever done.
Episode 2 of The Walking Dead was my favourite that season. Won't go into details because of spoilers, but it is ten times better than the first episode, and made me love the game.
I tried being nice to Georgie for a bit but when I saw he was not going to give in unless I break some stuff I gave in. So I broke his tv and DJ booth, kicked the keg over and sure enough he gave me exactly what I was asking for. Found the key/secret compartment, how could he not give in, lol.
I can see why telling the truth would not affect Beast's decision to fight. All he knows is that he sees his wife with the sheriff in a hotel trying to get into a room. During that scene I got beat up a lot, I kept missing the qte but all is well he found out the truth and they are friends again. It seemed random though that Beast came from out of nowhere. How would he know to check there for Beauty anyway?
I have not read the comics yet so I cannot compare but if I remember correctly, didn't TTG say they are working with the creators of Fables to help with this game, some sort of input..that this game is considered canon in the Fables universe/comics?
It did not seem TTG was implying that Crane was behind the "My Lips Are Sealed" victims/spell/murders. So I do not see an issue there since they clearly show Crane as having a separate motive/crime that he staged to look like Faith's so he could not be connected to it. But Bigby proves to be a decent detective.
I was nice to Georgie all the way. I ended up with the key as well. But the whole thing felt so awkward. I wanted to smash things, but that always bites me in the ass.
I agree, calming Beast down would be hard. But I felt unawarded for staying on Beast's side. Kenny in TWD always did good things back if you were his friend. And Beast's personality in the comics are very different from the game. In the comics, he's really calm and collected. When he got really angry and wouldn't listen to either Beauty or Bigby, it felt very OOC.
Yes, the game is considered canon. That's why I didn't get surprised Snow was alive. She's one of the main characters of the comic.
I thought they were implying that Crane is the bad guy. Smashing the mirror, having a villainous face. It felt very cheap, because we know that Crane probably isn't the one. Not the best way to end the episode, in my opinion.
Yeah, I fully agree. I've never read the comics but stuff like no chance to at least TRY to calm the Beast during the fight was lame. All in all kinda lackluster episode.

The good wolf/bad wolf dichotomy really feels too manichean. I was mostly friendly during Dee's interrogation, punched him once at the end because he made it cystal cllear the good wolf routine wouldn't work anymore, and at least* six* characters in the episode reminded it to me while acting scandalized as if I was Guantanamo's Tortionary in Chief. I mean come on, this whole "your acts have consequences" is getting blown way out of proportion.

Very disappointed in this episode. no room to be even a little bad if that is what you choose. even when you are talking to TJ if you start asking one too many questions they start to get mad at you. As for the player choices I didn't really feel like there were any big choices to make. weather or not to hit beast or to break georgie stuff. in the end it was the same result. ttg while I love the games your put out, after four months of waiting you really didn't produce much. Oh and as for the rest of the season and crane being the killer. TTG if your intention is for crane not to be a killer than you have a lot of work to convince us otherwise. everything you laid out supports his role as the killer. I was thinking it was him even from the first decapitations given his fable and everything. and with him smashing the mirror. what other reason would he have of doing that. anything would like to hear other ppls thoughts and if yall have good reasons why its not him I may change my mind. I just don't see any way they can realistically make crane be the one is who not responsible for the killings
I think something terrible happened during development that caused the episode to be pushed back. After such a long time I understand expecting more, but games get delayed. I thought it was a good episode.
I wholeheartedly agree. I also felt pressured to go easy on everyone, and the one person I WANTED to go easy on, I was forced to kick the crap out of!
I mean shit man, did I really need to gouge his friggin' eyes?
It took more prodding for Bigby to transform with Grendel, than it did with Beast. Why is that?
Why no allowance to explain the situation? It was the same with Grendel. No option to apologize for how these people are treated. I was able to talk my way out of more unnecessary violence in Skyrim, and that game's almost *nothing but *violence.
I hate it when games tie my hands like that only to push their plot forward.
Most of us feel Crane didn't do it, actually. I mean who leaves an incriminating photo like that at the scene of the crime? It could be another glamour but I doubt it. He's been framed and my initial thoughts are Bluebeard. No idea what plans he has.
Crane definitely thought Snow had died. That's clear from the opening scenes. Also, he was attempting to gloss over the Tweedles. Remember how Georgie said he hears news quickly and they look after themselves? I reckon he hired the Tweedles and Crane knows about it. He's worried about possible blackmail, so is leaving them alone (and consequently wants Bigby to leave them alone). It would also explain why Georgie knows the mayor personally and knows he can get an audience.
Why can't Crane be innocent of the killings? Just because he fetishises Snow White and pays a hooker to impersonate her doesn't necessarily mean he did it that night, nor that he killed her. Someone could have found out about his illegal behaviour and used it to frame him for murder.
