Beauty's big secret

edited February 2014 in The Wolf Among Us

OMG the tension of that huge epic reveal that she is .... working behind a desk?

Not complaining about it, I didnt think it would be anything to horrific but why is this such a big deal to hide from her husband, she's got a job to help with money I dont see why beast should be bothered about that. Sure its not the nicest location but with that many money problems...

    Two reasons.

    1. Beast and Beauty barely gets enough money to stay in the Woodlands. Obviously she needs a job too.

    2. Beast wants to feel like he is doing right by Beauty by making sure she has the money to stay out of danger. Her getting a job is to him a sign that he can't be good to her. That he might not be the right man since he can't help her from staying out of potential danger.

  • I loved episode 2. But this was one thing that I would have changed if I were developing it. Ok I understand Beast's pride is too big to have the public know about money issues and how you're working at a love hotel to earn extra cash. But this isn't something to keep secret from your spouse. If you tell Beast that doesn't mean the public will know and affect you in any way.

If anything he should be proud his wife is willing to work in such conditions to make a living. I feel they made this plot point so it was a hard decision when you had to keep it a secret, and gave you another choose in episode 1, nothing more.

  • You mustn't forget where they come from. They were rich in the Homelands. They have been married for over a thousand years.
Beast wants to provide for Beauty. There is that nice scene in the comics where Beauty tells Prince Charming she knows people have been talking about her marriage. And Prince Charming basically says people have been talking about her being bitchy with Beast all the time. ;)
Astonishingly in the comics their marriage is the most happy and stable one - despite the bitching.

  • Yup "their love is true as the old stories said" is something mentioned a few times about their marriage. In the first book Beast is working either as a janitor or fix it man I can't recall exactly, and Beauty is an assistant at Cinderella's shoe store. Basically it's hinted that they are both working multiple minimum wage jobs and barely surviving. This all changes later on, but that's spoilers enough for now.

  • I thought it was an okay reveal, from a storytelling point of view it could've been stronger. But it couldn't be that big a revelation considering the fact they appear in the comic still as a couple, so I'm glad it at least didn't become a grand revelation that should obviously had caused some problems.

  • I think she coulda've told Beast. What's wrong about having a desk job? Bigby almost blinded Beast because of that.

  • Beast is a traditional man. Hell he is a Prince who's entire Fable is about taking care of others instead of being greedy. I think he see himself as a failure for not being able to have a job that takes care of both himself and his wife. Remember the point of Beauty "a commoner" finding a true prince was so she wouldn't have to work again.

Plus there are hints the Beauty is borrowing money, and I don't think Beast knows about it. Hence why he says "I'm providing for you." It seems he may not know how in trouble they or at least she is off financially.

Either way she seems to be trying to protect his ego. I wouldn't worry about him being "blinded" though Fables especially the more famous ones are very hard to kill or even really hurt..

  • I have to admit it was a bit anticlimactic.

  • Am I the only one that burst out laughing, if you chose the "I dont care" response to Beauty?

  • During the fight scene and Bigby just clawed right into his eyes, I got fucked up. I thought he had tear them off, and that Beauty and Beast would hate Bigby, or even try to kill him.

    PS: Open room 203.

Well,Beast kinda wants to be in control and wants Beauty safe and sound and without worries, that's why he works multiple jobs,so that they won't get evicted and he would know his wife safe and sound.I don't think you know, guys, how much Beast actually loves his wife.He would do anything for her.But she loves him just as much, and she refuses to stand idly by while he's working himself so much.So it's all a thing of pride and love,really.Plus...She was working in a dump near a strip club,do you really think telling Beast that would've made him let her work there, let her get affiliated with guys such as Dee or Dum or the Crooked Man?Also...I see what you did there TellTale...All fans thought Beauty was stripping, and she was just...you know...

  • Nah. Fables are much tougher then normal people, as Woody shows. The more famous you are in the "Mundy" world the harder you are to kill. Despite the blood and eye gouging for Fables that fight was about as serious as two tough guys arm wrestling in a bar room. It was just to famous characters sizing each other up and blowing off some steam. Won't be the first time, they fight in the comics in the distant future as well.

  • While I wouldn't really compare working the front at a prostitution establishment to a regular desk job, I did expect there to be something more involved.

So I doubt that Beast knows much about Beauty's dealings with the Crooked Man.
