The Little Mermaid

I don't know how spoiler-sensitive I need to be here, so if I need to change the thread title or add any spoiler tags, let me know.

When I was playing through the Puddin' and Pie scene, I just noticed a lot of "The Little Mermaid" things in the club. I mean, at first glance, Nerissa is just 'one of the girls', a downtrodden Fable who was unfortunate enough to end up there like Lily and Faith. But I noticed things like a neon sign shaped like a mermaid in the Puddin' and Pie, and there was also a painting on the wall with a red-haired mermaid on it. Also, Georgie's chest seems to have "Kiss the Girl" tattooed on it (like the song in The Little Mermaid), just barely covered by his shirt.

I dunno, seems like Georgie's more taken with Nerissa than he lets on. Not really sure if any of this is significant at all, maybe they were all just hints and references to which Fable she is, but I thought it was worth noting. :P

Well, I believe "Kiss the Girls" is a reference to Georgie's own rhyme. :)

Georgie Porgie, pudding and pie kissed the girls and made them cry. When the boys came out to play Georgie Porgie ran away.

They seem to avoid Disney references as far as possible in this series. And that's good for a few reasons (aside from the legal reasons) because the comics have nothing to do with Disney. They're based on the original versions of the stories instead. But, I did notice that there was a lot of mermaid stuff in the club. Maybe Georgie has a thing for her. Or, maybe he's advertising the fact that he has such a well-known princess working at his club.

  • Oh! I didn't think of that, saw his tattoo and just immediately thought of The Little Mermaid. But you're right, they definitely wouldn't take anything from the Disney version.

  • I think that because Disney is such a big part of so many of our childhoods, it's almost like a reflex to see "Mermaids + Kiss the Girl" and then we hear calypso music in our heads. :D

But, yeah, I guess Georgie's just proud of the fact that he's been a snot to women for a long time. I thought the mermaid decor in the club was a cool touch, though.

  • When I saw the trailer at the end of episode 1, I was like "they really changed Sebastian in this... oh wait."
