Did you give the dying man water?

edited February 2014 in The Walking Dead

Just some questions to the community, curious what others did and their reasons behind it. For my first play-through I did not give the man any water because I didn't think he deserved it after attacking Christa and Clementine, also since he is labeled as 'Dying Man', I figured he was going to die anyway. But then afterwards I regretted it because if Lee was around, he would have helped the man anyway and I want my Clementine to still have a good spirit after Lee's influence.

  • If you did, why?
  • If you didn't, why not?
  • Do you think that your decision will have a huge effect later on in the game?
  • What do you think happened when they were attacked?

  • Nah, fucker wouldn't tell me anything otherwise.
My Clem is nice to people, but she's a total evil girl when someone tries to kill her and her friends.

  • sure did. thought he might tell me more about Christa. He didn't, but heck, it was nice to do something good anyway. Nothing of importance was lost anyway, seeing as there was a river right next to her. literally.

I'm not really sure either way about this decision. First time around I didn't give him water but since then I have been. I mean he was pretty bad to Clem and Christa at the beginning and really didn't deserve help. Of course, Info on what happened to Christa would certainly be nice.

I feel like logically that dude should be dead after being left there in that condition with walkers around but who knows, there is always the possibility that this choice could have a consequence later in the season.

I gave him water. Maybe he pissed his pants when the walkers came.

    I hope so.

  • Why I did it? Out of mercy, perhaps. If Victor survives, then sure, it will have a huge impact on the story (though I don't see how he would survive if you don't give him the water). I think they were attacked by Carver's group, because I doubt there is somebody else alive, apart from cabin group, the guys at the campsite (Victor and pals), and Carver with his buddies.

  • I gave the guy water. Why, you ask? It wasn't out of a sense of mercy, or pity, or doing the right thing. I just wanted info on what happened to Christa. Even if he and his cronies had killed her (I distracted them, by the way) I just needed to know. Unfortunately, Pete had to go and get chomped before Victor and Clem's little "heart to heart" could go any further.

I gave the water only for the sake of collecting information, just like pete said, too bad he's the one who got sloppy and distract clem

  • You'd think the walkers would have noticed him before Clementine and the others found him.

I gave him water. Maybe he pissed his pants when the walkers came. I hope so.

  • I gave him water to give him the strength to explain where Christa was. I was disappointed with his response :(

  • I probably shouldn't have. He looks infected, and the bottle probably isn't safe to drink from anymore.

  • I gave him water, because there was plenty of it around and I thought that I could get intel about Christa and learn who killed Roman.

  • I gave him water because I figured that I might get some information on what happened

  • Gave him water, sort of to make him talk plus I felt kind of moved to do it. He was dying after all and its nice to honour someones dying request if it dosnt cause you too much danger. If clem had been alone and that had been her last water then maybe not

  • Well I didn't give him the water, pretty much because if you do, he doesn't say anything anyway, and he didn't deserve it.

  • Do you have a gift of precognition? IMHO it's pretty difficult to tell in advance if a dying man is going to tell anything or not. And under normal circumstances giving him water certainly wouldn't reduce the chance of gaining useful information.

Well I didn't give him the water, pretty much because if you do, he doesn't say anything anyway, and he didn't deserve it.

  • I gave the bastard water cause I wanted information and it's hard to talk with a dry throat. Then we got jumped by walkers and it was a waste of water. That said though I'd've probably given him it anyway, I can't see Clem denying a "dieing man" a last drink.) Personally I'd've gone Joel 'n' the Cannibal (I'll pop your kneecap right off) on the bastard for trying to kill a woman and child for some sort of weasel, but then I'm more like Joel than Clem, and I'm playing as her, not me.)

  • I would hate this but he could be the one Clem thought was dead or good as dead obviously. The reason I say this is because I just don't see why TTG would make this a significant choice at the end of ep1 if it wasn't going to have an impact later

  • Good point, I didn't even consider him as a possibility. I could only think about Season 1's characters - a little part of me was secretly hoping it could be Lee - alive and well. And not a zombie. Wishful thinking.

  • I did. Giving a dying person a last request is a fairly large tradition. Will it become a big event later on? Perhaps so.

  • I didn't gave him nothing, his pal was trying to kill me and i don't have sympathy for monsters.

  • Yes mans dying not a monster but think sam dog is still alive now needed the information

  • I gave the water because I was expecting some information in return about Christa's fate. No, I don't think will have that much effect, I think it's just Telltale seeing if people were hoing to be kind or not ;) I was not being kind I was kind of barganning for information but whatever :P ANd what I think happened is taht ( and this is going to be kind of ellaborated) Two groups got in a gun fight, Carver's group and this guy's group, because Carver's group (who I'm going to say had Roman in it) saved Christa from the other guys. Ok this is jsut a guess that that's the story I'm sticking with.

  • NO that mother took christa or maybe even killed her - i wouldn't spit on him if he was on fire (infact i probably was the one who lit him on fire) I doubt it will matter much, the decisions never do in TTG games ,they're just there as a kind of moral thing too make you feel more connected too the story. Christa probably killed them.

  • I didn't give him any water on my first play through in case he would suddenly turn and bite Clementine.

  • I did because a) Clem is not a total cold-hearted bitch b) I wanted him to tell me what happened to Christa.

Yes. Even if he was a horrible person, my Clem isn't.

  • On my "good guy Lee" play through Clem gave him the water, which is my canon play through. But on my "big jerk Lee" save no water at all and me and lee's ghost laughed merrily as our girl watched him suffer.

  • we're all infected.

  • No shit, you silly goose. I meant that he's showing symptoms of someone infected from the various diseases that accompany a walker bite.

  • no I did not. that was OUR water that THEY stole. on top of it, why waste water on someone who was going to die anyway in the very near future?

  • I gave him the water, seemed like the right thing to do. It might affect some dialogue options/decisions later in the game seeing as there are two moral choices, the water and whether to mercy kill the dog, this may affect how everyones Clem reacts to a situation further down the line.
Or seeing as there was what seems to be a god-almighty massacre or gun battle there, persons unknown may have observed what action your Clem took.
Remember Pete told her to look at the treeline as whoever did it might still be around.

  • They probably came when they heard Pete's gunshot.

  • Or it is possible that this dying man is the one that she thought was dead. That'd be awkward to face.

  • He got what was coming to him so I gave him the water.

  • I gave water to get info and well he was in no shape to do any harm anymore... I am sure he will be the one Clem says: I thought you were dead...

  • Same here

  • It's possible, but it's quite a stretch of the imagination for me. He was in a very bad way, I'd be surprised if he made it out of that if Clem et al were almost overrun.

  • I think the bottle is still safe to drink from, so that shouldn't be a concern. I had Lee take a swig of whiskey from the bottle Kenny found in Episode 5, and after Christa drank from it immediately afterward she was fine.
