Yeah I was once banned for like two weeks, no idea why or when it was going to end. I guess there is no way unless you talk to a mod.
The chances of a mod actually responding to me is like 5%. I mean, I once PMed 2 mods asking if I could help with the forum's cleanup in some way during that pedophile troll's reign of terror, but I was completely ignored.
I stopped PMing them troll posts because nothing was ever done about them, even if they saw the PM.
I do not recall receiving a PM, or hearing the other mods had received a PM. Unfortunately, these new forums handle PMs awkwardly if you PM a user with a space in their user name.
I usually try to respond to PMs in a timely manner, but have not received many. I've sent PMs to users, but they claim to have not received them as well. I do not know the cause, but I apologize for this though.
Ok, I am sorry for making an unfair assumption.
I just sent you a PM. Let me know if you got it, as I'm curious as to why users/mods are having trouble receiving PMs from each other.
I didn't get the PM. That's really weird.
I'll take a screenshot of my feed.
I sent you guys a PM yesterday, you guys didn't receive it? Sh*t...
Strange indeed...
Until the PM system gets better (if it ever will) would it be possible to set up some sort of "report" thread where users can post links to discussions/users that they feel need to be dealt with? Or would that be too confrontational?
Yeah, I agree.
I can look up how long and why your main account was banned, but I'm afraid I'll have to ban this account afterwards as well for ban evasion. Until then, though, I'll try to answer some of your questions though.
I've considered this (though I have not brought up the idea with the other mods), but I'm afraid that even if we enforced rules about not using the thread to start drama or shame users for reporting, the thread would turn bad anyways.
However, I'll try bringing this issue up. I'm terribly sorry that your PMs did not go through.
Oddly enough, however, I've still successfully received PMs from users in the past. I'll try investigating this, but in the main time, would someone who has successfully PM'd us explain if they did anything special?
I already know why we are banned, so that part isn't necessary.
Does "in the past" include after the minor update we had to the site? If you haven't received any PMs since then, it's possible that the site update screwed up the PM system.
Banned until February 23, 2014 12:00 AM. I'm not openly disclosing how long Cactus_Sauce was banned.
Thanks for bringing the PM problems my attention. I'll see if I can bring this to the attention of others.
Thank you.
By the way, I recall having received PMs from your main account in the past. Any idea as to what you did differently when you sent a PM which received a response from us?
I've offhandedly heard deleting the user name and retyping it in the recipient box, but I could be wrong.
I always had to manually type the names. If I tried to PM directly from your profile, I would just be shown as PMing "Blind".
So, I don't think I did anything differently. It is probably a problem that occurred after one of the updates.
We've had issues before the update, but the update causing another issue is entirely possible. I recall someone - possibly you or Riadon - mentioning how you successfully got to PM a user with a space in their user name. Can you recall? It's fine if not, but I'm trying to do what I can to bring this to attention with others.
...So I guess it's due to the "New Private Conversation" button only using the part of the user name before a space occurred. Can you manually type my user name in a PM again and see if it works?
I sent a PM.
I did not get that message. Can you copy/paste the Private Conversation number in the URL? Don't worry, only users in the PM will be able to see the conversation and other users will not see it.
Not that that matters now, since you are openly displaying the conversation, but you know what I mean.
Yeah, that was me. Basically, whenever you're trying to PM a person with a space in their name, the default Recipient line only uses the part of the name before the space. So when I go to your profile and click "Private Discussion," it takes me to a page where I can type up a PM but the Recipient line will read "Blind" instead of "Blind Sniper." So if I just typed up a message and sent it, it would never get to you.
To make sure that the message goes through to "Blind Sniper" and not "Blind," you have to clear out the Recipient line and type in the actual name of the person you're trying to reach and select their name from the drop-down menu that appears.
BTW, I just sent you, Vain, Darth, and Jen a PM from the same PM thread that I've been using to report troublesome users, so I know for a fact that it should have gone through. Did it?

Link worked.
This gives me an idea for a good, temporary solution until this gets fixed. Thank you very much!!!
...Okay, that's weird. I didn't even get a notice from the old PM that you sent. That definitely makes me think that this is caused by the new update. However, since linking to the conversation works, I have a good idea...
No problem. That might explain the increased number of trolls we have been seeing. No one could contact the mods.
We did not, but since the links to PMs still work and allow us to participate in a PM just like beforehand, I'm thinking of a potentially good idea as a solution to this problem.
Hang tight.
It works? Cool. I've been trying to send this to you guys in like forever...pls read this mods...

I'll look into that issue.
In the mean time, I'm hoping that the other mods get online sometime soon so they can respond to my idea.
What do you suggest is done until a fix is implemented?
Maybe a sticky thread for people to post their message ID (along with the mod they PMed) or something.
That was what I was thinking, actually.
I'm playing it safe and waiting to run it by with others and iron out details, but if so, I'll keep you guys updated.
Random question. How does one become a moderator? I had always wondered.
I dont suppose you could tell us your idea so we can all brainstorm and figure this out together? :P
(nvm read earlyer post)
As far as i know, this has been going on even before i first joined, i remember sending a message to SaltLick but he never replyed, he said he didnt get it when i asked him in a thread later on, so this has been going on for quite some time.
I'm thinking about a thread where users can post links to Private Conversations with Mods that we did not initially receive through our profile feed.
That would definately be a good idea, however i dont think it should be limited to messages to mods only, if it was for all members that would make it easier for everyone, hopefully Darth and the other mods get on soon.
So if I get this right, JackOfBlades, you could previously PM people by typing in their full user name whereas the "New Private Conversation" button only used the first word in their user name. However, as of what you expect is the recent update, you suspect that does not work. Is that the jist of things?
It seems that way, the system doesnt work no matter how you do it, unless you link to that specific discussion, they dont get the message you send, ive tried it several different ways and nothing. i even tried removeing the space and you saw how that went @BlindSniper.
Your earlyer suggestion seems like our best bet until this issue is resolved, though as i said i think it should be for all members who want to send a message to any member, instead of it being messages to mods only.
Yes, I would provide dates for PMs that were answered/not answered, but I am currently writing a paper. I would have to do so tomorrow.
That's fine. Thanks for your help.
