Trying to get other people into TWD Game.

edited February 2014 in The Walking Dead

So far, I succeeded in trying to get my friend, niece, and nephew into the game. But, my sister sucks. I invited her to watch me play over a month ago and now we're up to the middle of episode 3. She has a hard time staying awake during some dialogue scenes. She says that the game is boring. When she said that I felt sad, angry, and dumbfounded. YET, she loves AMC's TWD! Are you fuckin kidding me?! -_-

Have you guys succeeded in trying to spread the word of this amazing game to stubborn people like my sister? If so, tell me how!!

Get your sister a brain transplant. Send her old brain in for study.

Loves AMC but hates TTG? Something fishy going on here.

  • I turned one of my former school friends into a huge Walking Dead fan thanks to the game. And the best part is, he hated the TV show and had no interest in comics. So I was rather proud getting him into it when he was all; "I don't like anything Walking Dead." Proved him wrong.

  • I don't understand either. I love her so much, but this particular thing really hurt me :(

I did the same thing, except she was also a fan of the TV TWD. So now she has two things to look forward to :)

  • Some people just can't relate to animated/drawn/CG characters. They won't give them a chance to grow on them. Yet, they'll claim some must worse story is a masterpiece because it's done with real people. Nothing you can do about it. AMC's TWD is garbage compared to this game. if she can't see that, then she's not even trying.

This game is definitely not a game you should be "shown", or played with other people in the room. It's definitely better alone.

  • Yeah really. My mom loves the TV show, and when the ads for TTG's TWD SE2 come on she's all, " Ugh, god I hate these ads for that stupid game." I wanna' slap her, but she's my mom... and that would be weird. (Same case for my brother)

  • My friends won't play it because of graphics which is bullshit

My mom who had never played anything other than card games on a PC and who gets motion sickness from most video games played loved it (she also loved The Last Of Us). My sister loved it, but she is a big fan of story in games. Haven't converted anyone else.

Some people don't consider any game without a realistic art style and constant action to be good.

  • Well, I got my friend and niece into it by sending them YouTube playthroughs through Facebook messages. I guess watching/listening to other people's reactions made the game grow on them too. But they have no problem watching me play.

  • The game is gorgeous with 2x SGSSAA at 1440p on an IPS monitor. Much better than brown and gray modern war games.

  • I gifted 4 copies of the Walking Dead in Steams holiday sales. 3 bites, 1 didn't but was interested in the coming Game of Thrones game, 2 I managed to convince trying and both loved the game like I did. :)

So, thats 5 I've managed to bring in to the light! Yay me! :p

  • I think the constant action thing is what discourages my sister from getting attached to the game.

  • Well, she was watching you play so i guess you were playing on a console. Only way to truly enjoy a game is with a 24inch monitor right in front of your face and a nice pair of headphones.

  • edited February 2014

So does that mean that I am enjoying games 200% because I use a 27 inch monitor and $1,500 headphones?

I don't really think it works that way. Maybe for people like us, but if someone is used to inferiority it isn't going to significantly affect their experience.

I don't really see how constant action would get someone "attached" per-say. It may keep them interested for a while, but it will grow stale quickly unless it is done in some amazingly innovative way.

Also, make her play. She will become far more attached if she actually feels involved in the game. I forced my mom to play it, despite her only wanting to watch me play it. I think it worked wonders.

  • True. Then, I don't know what AMC has that TTG doesn't.

  • when my brother was here for christmas break from college, I forced him to play season 1 and he finished it and liked it lol. When he finished ep 5 he played ep 1 s2 asap and he enjoyed it. My sister that's 10 always watches me play twd and twau. It was so funny bc in ep2 of twau in the stripper scene she didn't care lmfao.. it's like she has seen it all and she's used to it omg. But yeah I just showed her the new screenshot of ep 2 and we just finished watching the tv AD and we're literally screaming and ready for ep 2 :)

  • That's awesome, man. Maybe I should force my sister to play too if I continue failing.

  • Nah. I doubt anyone I know would get as attached as I have and as much as I would try to understand... it would annoy me.

  • You're probably right. Although it was HER who got me into the TV show in the first place. Then I tried to return the favor, but it's not looking so good :/

  • Try to get her to play the game herself, sometimes when someone watches another person play a game they won't feel that emotional attachment to the characters and story. Like myself I'd rather play the game on my own spare time because it'll feel like I'm the one involved. I don't know if it's just me but it's not the same when you watch someone else play a game rather than playing it yourself.

  • I think I'll try that. But what made me fall in love with the game was watching people on YouTube play the first two episodes, then i decided to buy the game myself because it was driving me crazy :P

  • Haha I decided to give the game a try when I heard that it was getting so much game of the year awards. At first I thought I wasn't going to like it but I gave it a shot and was hooked the story is brilliant and I loved every second of it. Yeah just see if she'll try it out for herself but if not then hey can't convince them they'll just be missing out lol.

TellTale's Walking Dead>AMC's The Walking Dead

She is clearly one of those annoying people who all they care about is action! Action! Action!!! She cannot grasp the pure beauty of the Walking Dead that TellTale was put together.

Did you tell her it was story based and not ACTION based? Tell her she needs to actually pay attention to the damn game rather than falling asleep within the first 5 minutes, obviously it's the start of a story based game, it's gonna be a bit slow.

How old is she by the way?

  • I shove this shit in my friends faces any chance I get. YOU. MUST. LOVE. TWDG!

  • Just slap her, what's the worst that could happen?

  • I've Tried showing it to a couple of my friends and they are like Nah man this game is boring it has no action, And Im just like....You are an ignorant shit,Swerve You Bitch

  • I had the same problem with my brother who is a gamer. I just kept telling him it won a lot of VGA's but he didn't really understand why. So he finally decided to play it and understood why it won.

  • She's 27 and I'm 19, lol. And she actually tends to fall asleep during the very calm parts or the second half of the episode.

The first time I got my sister to play the walking dead the first thing she said was "How do I skip this cutscene?" Eventually after having to baby her through the first 25 minutes I woke up the next morning to find her playing through episode 1. Then as soon as she finished the episode she she wanted to know the choices I made and when does the next episode comes out. I told her I had the season pass for all 5 episodes and 400 days. She played through all 5 episodes that day and I watched her playthrough at least 3 of those episodes. She didn't cry at the ending but she freaked out at the cliffhanger. Right now she's playing/waiting for the TWD S2 and TWAU. Before the TWD the only Telltale game I could get my sister to play was Poker night 2 but now she's excited for TWD S2 and TWAU. My advice is to let her play it she may get bored at first but may enjoy it like my sister did.

  • Good job, man. I wouldn't have the patience to baby her through that. And thanks, that's probably the best thing to do at the moment.
