Give Luke a Chance
Now I know what you're thinking, "another Luke thread? Seriously?" I'm making this thread to clarify some misinterpretations about Luke and maybe, the key word "maybe," the story of the game. I could be wrong about this, but I'm going off of my logic.
1. Luke is going to replace Lee!
- Luke WILL NOT replace Lee. People continue to bring this up when they're obviously wrong. Luke will most likely be a brother figure to Clem which is a totally different role than what Lee played which was the father figure. Luke and Clem will most likely work together as a team and value each other equally rather than one looking out for the other at all times. The brother/sister relationship was something Telltale was going to do in season 1, but didn't. Doesn't it make sense now that they would go back to their origination for season 2? It could work well in the story.
2. This game is about Clementine surviving on her own. Not Luke and Clementine surviving together.
- No offense, but that sounds horrible, boring, and a bit like misery porn. You want more of what happened in the first episode of season 2? You want more of Clementine being alone, hurt, and miserable? If you do then you really must be sadistic. Telltale are better writers than to write an awful story like that. Anyways, I consider TWD to be a role playing game so how can you role play by yourself? Also how will your decisions impact the story if you have no one there to make your choices matter? If I'm right about the brother/sister relationship then Luke will consider Clem equivalent to the group and consider her vote as an equal. Which is a good way to make your choices matter.
3. I don't like Luke and I don't want him being forced on me.
- Why am I not surprised? There's not going to ever be a character that everybody likes. They will always find flaws in the character and fault them for it. There were people who didn't like Lee in season 1 and there were actually some people who didn't like Clem because she was being forced on them. Sometimes you have to follow the story and not be so judgmental so early in the game.
4. I don't see Luke being there for Clementine. He's bipolar and a coward.
- Luke isn't bipolar he was just startled by the bite and Clementine didn't say anything about the bite when Luke asked her if she was okay, but after time went on he started to believe her. After he found out she was legit, he felt bad and tried to make amends. I don't think he's a coward from what I've seen. He and Pete saved Clementine from a walker infested forest in episode 1 and in the screenshots for episode 2 he looks badass, but I guess you never know.
5. I don't trust Luke.
- I guess we'll have to wait until the next episode to be sure, but he did save Clem's life and defended her from the group. If it wasn't for him and Pete, Clem would've been eaten alive. Could you imagine that? Because I definitely don't want to.
6. Luke will not be a major character in season 2 and will most likely die since he is a likable character.
- There's a lot of evidence pointing towards him being a major character. More screen time, hashed out character, second name in the credits right under Clementine just like Clementine was the second name in the credits right under Lee in season 1, etc. Also, are you saying that Telltale is going to kill a likable character for shock value? Wow! That's really original! I think you may be right about this. sarcasm
Sorry that it was longer than I expected, but that is my opinion on the subject and if you disagree then feel free to explain why you do.
Comments
Thank you.
Thumbed up and you have my support :P
Wow, thanks. I'm glad I could put so much work and thought in this thread just so you could post that gif.
I would trade Pete for him, even leg less.
Oh I'm going to give him a chance, i want his machete and it's case for Clem because it looks cool, I'll have no problem striping it off his corpse.
In all seriousness I look forward to Luke's development the most. I would like to see him try to become Clem's protector but realize she doesn't need that, what she needs is a partner to watch her back.
Ignore them. I find that gif rather annoying as well. Anyway, my opinion about Luke is very much like yours and i'm glad you took the time to make this thread, which is very well done by the way.
I hope Luke is not going to be as "perfect" as Lee. Lee would give life for Clem and never back out. I hope Luke is not that kind of guardian and he is more of a allie who would back out if his life would be in danger.
Thank you. I really appreciate it.
The problem i had with luke is: In TTG's shot adventure the nice person are the characters who fucked you in the end the most. And i'm sure luke will do some shit...or he will die...Carver will kill him. Go Carver!
Well, his life was in danger (to some extent) when he saved Clem in episode 1.
Yup, if it wasn't for Pete, Luke would've been done for from behind and yet he still didn't withdrawal until he got Clementine out of there.
I only post that gif if someone has made a stupid comment toward me, just to piss them off.
Usually I post this:
But I have read your entire thing, and you are LEGIT smart!
This!
You presented your points remarkably well and for that, I applaud your diplomacy and effort good sir. You and Luke have my support.
The OP has good Engrish.
I still say luke is more likely to be the new kenny, in that he'll be with you the entire time, always judging you. He seems like the chatacter most opposite clem, in that she does what she has to, and he is a bit too altruistic. Even when he finds out she was bit and he was freakin out, i think it was more because of the possibility of having to kill a kid, rather than the "she's bit, she must be destroyed!" attitude of the others. Well, after the initial "omg, she's contagious" drop of his, at least. As for being too nice to live, if clem has to make the tough choices, whose opinion will guilt you the most: a person who decided they hate you and want you dead/gone, or the nice guy doing his best to keep everyone safe? And not in a "ben safe" kinda way. Nick has that covered.
That hair always irked me...
Hell Luke ran into a herd of walkers and nearly got himself bit for Clem when we first met him, I can forgive his act of scumditude letting them put her in the shed, he had one vote in six.
The fact is, if that group has a go-to guy left now Pete's bit (assuming what he heard about his cousin was bullshit and any attempt to amputate works no better than it did for Lee) it's Luke.
Nick is well meaning but inept and dangerous around firearms,
Alvin (so far) is pretty passive and useless,
Carlos is either incompetent or a liar, and too fixated on turning his daughter into walker bait,
Sarah is so sheltered she's going to a be a liability anywhere but inside the cabin, safe in her room.
And I think we've all said enough about Rebecca.
If Pete doesn't make it, it looks like it's gonna be down to Clem and Luke, with the bumbling aid and constant fuck ups of Nick, to keep the group alive.
God I hope Kenny comes back.
Or Christa.
Even Larry would be a welcome, cheerful face at this point.
This
Unless u mean his chiseled chin, i dont think there's much left of his face to welcome back...
Still swap him for Rebecca.
The important part is still intact.
His ass.
That's where he keeps his charm, see
The poor bastard pours his heart out in a thread and you give him this...
I get that people are slow to trust thanks to season 1 or whatever, but, from the little I've seen, Luke seems like an OK guy. I agree with every single one of your arguments and, even if you turn out to be wrong, this is what makes the most sense right now.
Luke is by far the most likable character in season 2. I don't get all the harshness towards him. He risked his life to save Clem, he was on her side the entire time, he took care of her. There's really no serious reason not to like him.
Yeah he seems decent so far. Most of the new group do really.
I agree with your points, You don't have to like the guy but the reasons people have for disliking him so far are pretty stupid IMO, I don't know who came up with the idea that they got rid of Lee just so they could replace him with a White Younger Version
Probably the same dude who decided to put that red dye in smarties
I don't mind Luke, but he did fucking throw Clementine.
That's a bit harsh don't you think? He was just startled by the bite which Clementine probably should have told them about when Luke asked if she was okay. On top of that, Luke saved Clementine's life by putting his own on the line and was completely selfless by defending Clem from the group when he had nothing to gain by doing so. In the kitchen conversation he argues that they let Clementine go from the shed and let her come inside. When Nick storms off, Luke follows him and tells Nick that he should apologize to Clementine and I can tell that Luke doesn't like blaming people for things. For an example, when Nick explains his story and says it was his fault, Luke tells Nick that it was no ones fault or when he feeds Clementine and if you choose the [Eat] option, he will apologize for them putting Clementine in the shed even though he was completely against it. He took responsibility for his group's actions by doing that which is what a real leader does. He also was the only one decent enough to listen to Clementine's story and sympathize with her.
Your argument would be valid if Luke didn't throw Clementine on the floor. How could you defend someone who would throw a little innocent sweet precious girl on the dirty filthy rotted ground!
Still he tossed my waifu. Asshole.
Okay so I read your previous post about how you would rather have a legless Pete than Luke. The thing is, Pete wanted to cut Clementine's arm off and Pete wasn't against the group putting Clementine in the shed. Pete didn't even argue that they let Clementine out of the shed. Also, who was at the shed first? Luke was. Do you know why? He probably convinced the group to finally let her go since there is no way they could have heard her fighting that walker from inside the house. The devil is in the details. I'm not trying to discredit Pete since he's my second favorite character, but just trying to inform you.
I appealed to Pete and he spoke up for Clem.
And Kenny wanted to cut Lee's arm off. Pete said he heard it worked. He was at least willing to try something, since the "doctor" most clearly wasn't in.
Yeah Kenny wanted to cut Lee's arm off because Lee told Kenny that he was bitten. Clementine kept telling the group she wasn't bitten by a walker and it seems like Luke was the only one who believed her. If you appeal to Pete he says something along the lines of her weighing a sack of floor and how they could kill her if it came to it. It's weird since he said that he believed her in the forest and now he's talking about amputation or death.
That's a good point actually.
They are long time in this reality also had one infected. Clementine is completely healthy without any 'symptoms' yet he toss her on the ground without remorse, she would stay there if not for Pete.
