Aye, i completely agree with you man. Negan is more mentally insane and has almost the opposite way of doing things. Instead of understanding why he did things and either hate/love him for it you just keep saying to yourself: Why, what the fuck? The hell is this? Because Negan isn't understandable, he is a person that just keeps on being more and more strange and unexpected. For example, why does he not bash Rick's brains in already?
Secondly i agree it did suck that they killed the Governor off, but playing a show with 2 separate groups doesn't really work out well. The only thing i didn't like about the whole episode is the way that Governors group got so ridiculously crushed. Ok, a bigger group, equipped with military gear (except for armor) and a fucking tank lost to a smaller group with many children firing weapons, that is just not happening, it's silly. Also how the governor went for Hershel instead of Michonne was only to hurt mentally. He really had no reason to choose Hershel rather than his everlasting grudge for Michonne. Oh, also turns out, she killed him which is even more silly. Meh, it's TV i suppose.
Also, Nate is such a great character because nothing phases him, he's a jolly psycho. And i love it.
Exactly. The rise of the Governor books show he's just a guy who was put through the shit and had to become what he was to survive.
Morriss… moreey played that role to perfection. Comic governor had very little to like about him except he was funny, like Nate crossed with Patrick Bateman.
The show showed him to be more than a complete raging psychopath, I mean, he still sort of WAS, but you could understand WHY he was like that.
I came away from season 3 totally getting the Governor in a way I'd never understood comic Phillip.
Those episodes with him and Tara and megan are my favorite since the first season.
Just wish they hadn't fucking killed him off, and hope they don't replace him with Negan

I think if it hadn't been for the bad blood between him and Rick, and Michonne putting Penny's walker down, Brian would've joined the prison g… moreroup.
I think AMC missed a big fucking chance there. The shows no longer canon to the comics anyway so they had a chance to recktify Kirkmans biggest fuck up, killing The Gov.
They could have had him join Rick's group, he would have to be on the council, so then they could have had a building power struggle between him and Rick, with both of them protecting the group, but in their own way which the other doesn't agree with, Rick thinks Brians too harsh and suspects he's killing other survivors on the roads for supplies, and Brian thinking Ricks too soft and they need to survive no matter what.
Missed a big fucking chance.
In the comics he's basically replaced by a shallow cardboard copy in Negan.
No reason for the show to do the same though.
Big fucking chance.
Damn...
He did like Hershel, he was honest and optimistic and was the true voice of reason. But as DirtySlimyHarry said earlier, when he was listening to Rick's speech, getting convinced to actually join forces he looked over his side and saw Michonne with her katana, and then back to Rick and saw everything that had happened to him and his small community due to these people. His mind burned with anger and he did something he had not planned in his head, but was only an act of pure hatred for those moments. "Liar!"
Also as i said previously, he should've chopped Michonne's head instead, but he didn't have time to think, he was mad out of his mind.
The the one thing The Gov. did that I can't understand on the show was killing Hershel.
He even liked the old dude, but I guess sometimes we can't come back after all...
This is great, but don't forget a very important point. Only ignorant people "hate" an actor for his role, or even that character actually. Governor is only seen by these people for his horrible actions, not for his good ones nor his reasons for them.
Well, let's try to light up the atmosphere while also keeping this thread alive. It would be interesting to see more opinions from people.
… more
I also find it quite funny that people hate David Morrissey simply because he played The Governor. This shows just how good of a job he did.
I also noticed that. I can't tell you how many times i heard that he should die because of what he did to Hershel or Merle. As far as i'm concerned ep 6-8 are definitely one of the best ones, if not the best in TWD thus far. I also find the whole Michonne business too much of a cliche.

Agreed. In my opinion Michonne is a character that only drains and doesn't give anything. And as you say, it is ridiculously cliché with what i said about Gov killing Hershel instead of Michonne, it is really just quite silly. This was television striking again and for some reason Michonne just have to stay alive... That, or he just didn't think in all of his anger, but he should've pulled the trigger when he met them burning the bodies and only kept Hershel hostage.

I preferred the comic gov by a mile, This is just my opinion but i don't think every antagonist has to be humanized. the comic gov didn't have any redeeming qualitys at all( tv Governor loves his daughter and breaks completely after she is put down, comic Governor treats her as a pet and sex slave).
He was a just a greedy psycho with a lot of people and guns (i thought at the time, if the zombie apocalypse didn't happen he would have probably ended up as a serial killer). With the tv gov you can agree with some of his choices, understand where he is coming from and feel sorry for him. I am probably biased as i read the comics first, but to me it was refreshing to just have a downright evil villain, no redeeming qualitys. To me the sympathetic antagonist has become almost a cliche.
Plus the prison battle was f*cking awesome in the comics, like half the characters died. I hated the end of season 3, was obviously just trying to stretch out the Governors story, Too far gone however was really cool, but still the prison assault was much more devastating for the gov than ricks side, as rick only lost one man.
That's just my opinion though, to each their own.
I don't agree with you but i understand what you mean. Comic book gov was batshit crazy and was pure evil. Negan is an insane asshole that is somehow jolly. And then we have the TV-series Governor that is something completely else, maybe not even antagonist, just more of, the other side of things. Everything he did was to protect the ones he loved, really.
And yes, the prison fight was crazy in the comic, absolutely devastating. In the TV-series they were more vague with things, like the way they take 1-2 men each time and not kill off important characters in a hurry. Both fights were awesome looking but silly. The second time he had a bigger army that was equipped with military gear and a fucking tank. Rick barely lost shit in that fight, and he had several children killing people. Only on TV lel.
I know what you mean. For example Daryl is untouchable at this point in the show. The stunt he pulled back in ep 8 with the walker shield is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. Hell, even Merle had more development as character than Daryl and Michonne, and that's saying something..... As you mentioned earlier, The Gov's group got almost crushed without killing any major character. This is one of the reasons why the show doesn't sit right with me sometimes.
Agreed. In my opinion Michonne is a character that only drains and doesn't give anything. Yeah, while i do love the Dixon brothers and along with Gov, Merle was my favourite character, but some things that the series pull off is just plain stupid, like that shield, like the fact that they still haven't muffled the chopper that is more loud than gunshots and do runs with it(love the sound, but it's dumb). But most of all i hate the fanboys/girls of this show "DARYL!!!! <<33<3333!!!!#"#" "IF DARYL DIES WE RIOT!" And people thought Merle was a fucking asshole until the very last episode we saw of him and Daryl was miserable, then people finally thought it was time to think of him as a great person. No.
Something that is fun to note as well, remember how we all waited for so long during the Christmas break as always, and then come back to the worst episode that has ever aired? Starring the 2 worst and most overrated characters in the show..ONLY. Yeah, shit was great.

After what he did to Hershel, he can rot in hell.
Yeah that was a dickmove

Nah, I'm still in the middle of the comics. Not sure if I'll get the novels.
Negan is a far better and superior character than the Governor.
So he is not a shallow cardboard copy of the Governor.

It sucks that he died, Not many villains have his Charisma and The ability to make you Love and hate them at the same time

Ah, sorry for misunderstanding you. I thought it was too hard to "love" the comic one because he was no compassion at all. My bad.
Thats what makes him Unique ! But both versions are great You can't help but Love/hate them
Absolutely! Let's not forget his activities in his free time.....
Haha, ok man, i gotcha.

Yeah I love how he sees the Brian Herriot thing on the wall in the show and starts calling himself Brian from that poinmt on.
Brian it is.
Can't argue with the man himself
Hey there's no TV in the ZA, he's gotta get his fix somehow
Well that didn't work very well...
Try this instead..
Brian could have taken the prison the first time if his people hadn't let him down...

Fuck yeah Team Brian!
I always found comic Governor amusing the way I find Negan amusing, but a far better character.
TV Governor hit it on the head for me. Listen to Morrissey's take on him...

Morrissey brings him to life.
TV Gov all the way
