Question for those who played the older games
Okay, I'm something of a completionist, but before TT came out with ToMI, I had never played any of the original games. Still, having a lot of confidence in TT, and being naturally attracted by monkeys, I went ahead and pre-ordered. I was able to get a hold of the original games and have finished the first game and am halfway (I think) through the second one. Will it enhance my ToMI game-playing experience to hold off until I finish the originals, or will it not really make much of a difference?
I'm kind of antsy to start launch of the screaming narwhal, but I'd rather catch the references to past games and whatnot. Those who have played the new and the old, what do you recommend?

A couple of issues that pop up a lot are that Escape went from 2d to 3d, and from mouse control to a keyboard scheme that has quite some annoying problems.
But I still enjoyed it.
Just hook up a gamepad change the controls to relative to the camera instead of the character and the controls are not that bad at all.... Especially if you are used to controlling characters on a console system.
The graphics on 4 are a little dated but again not too bad the worst thing is the characters... but I think the scenery holds up fairly well in that game... But its biggest downside is that it was right after the prettiest MI game, MI3..
There were only two console ports IIRC, the Sega CD one of the first game, and the PS2 one of the fourth game.
Money Island
The voodoo lady is in the first Monkey Island too, but the pixely graphics are such that I've never thought she bore much resemblance to her current form (CMI on). In fact when I played the first game as a kid I really couldn't tell whether the voodoo person was male or female, really. I may be alone in this though.
Yeah, but we are getting the third and fourth shortly, with TMI coming to WiiWare and SMI:SE coming to XBLA.
One little detail escapes me, they didn't explain the transition between monkey island 4 and 5 .. but , they never explained the transition from 2 to 3 either.
Then replay Tales and see what you missed
I think you're alone on that one. One of voodoo lady's biggest features was her huge bouncing breasts!
The gap between MI2 and CMI is explained once you talk to LeChuck on Monkey Island in CMI. The gap between EMI and TMI mimicks the gap between SMI and MI2, where it's obvious that a lot of adventures has happened since you last saw Guybrush (and he has grown a beard).
That and her freaky glowing green eyes. I could never understand why they changed them to brown/black and the facepaint this time around kills her look of mystery. She looks like a clown
