Items not doing anything

Just wondering, if this happened to anyone, for me there were a few things i tried that didnt result in anything, like when i tried to put the nose potplant in the well in the jungle, guybrush pulls out the plant, then just puts it away, doesnt say anything, also i tried the weather vane on the ???? in the jungle and Guybrush wont do or say anything?

    At what point did you try to use the flowers on the well? Did you follow the map correctly first?

    And no, using the weather vane on those things while they are still labeled '????' isn't going to do anything.

    I used the flowers on the well before i was suppsed to, i understand, thanks.
