What does the machine in the Creepy Shack do?

Does the machine in the voodoo lady's shack actually do anything?
I thought it'd be some sort of an easter egg if I pressed it a couple of times but it doesn't do anything for 20 clicks at least.

P.S: @Mods, I posted this here as I'm not sure if it fits in the Puzzles forum.

It reminded me of the X marks the spot puzzle in Curse.

Other than that, I'm not sure if it does anything.

I thought it was foreshadowing for a future puzzle, just like the locked chest :)

It reminded me of the controls in the theater in CMI. What with the buttons etc. But unfortunately it doesn't seem to do anything :(
Perhaps in a later episode? Just like the "Chest of Foreshadowing", Guybrush even says he can't open it now, "not in this episode at least".

It also looks like it is supposed to give you something. It has a little "can-stopper"
Maybe we just tortured someone on a distant island by pressing the buttons.

I thought it changed the winds at first but now I have no idea. He also presses the same buttons every time which is slightly annoying.

I'm not really sure why you would find this even slightly annoying. The machine is obviously for a future puzzle (or no puzzle at all), and by pressing the same buttons every time, it demonstrates that you will not be getting anywhere with your current quest by doing it repeatedly.

I like the smug look on Guybrush's face when he pushes the buttons. Really quite funny.

You know... i wondered the same thing, and I work here (sandwiched between Stemmle and Grossman) . I guess I could just ask but, I'd rather just find out when, or if, it is re-visited. Would hate for it to spoil a puzzle later on.

Maybe its the first item for Guybrush's treasure hunt.

Yeah, I love that too. It's like, he knows he has no clue what he's doing, but darned if he's not gonna try!

Which describes his whole pirating career . . . :D

Remember the literal red herring? This could be a less literal version. :)

For some reason, the first thing that popped into my head is it's a ride control device from the Carnival of the Damned.

It's obviously a typewriter. That only has sixteen or so letters ... how often do you use the "x" key anyway?

Once if you are using it to make a treasure map

Adding that letter to a keyboard would just make the device needlessly comple.... um.... complicated. :p
