Kids (movie)

So I watched this 90's movie called Kids the other day. For those who haven't seen it it's an indy film about two kids who are the true scum of the earth that go around what seems to be upstate New York and do the worst things (beating people almost to the point of death, shoplifting, buying and doing drugs) one of the sociopaths was born with HIV and knowingly has intercourse with virgins to get them infected. It's pretty disgusting and I'm not sure of the point. Am I suppose to like the asshole, sociopath main characters? The film just seemed like garbage with no real point to me. I wanted to know what others thought

Seems like another movie that's being grotesque just for the sake of being so.

Upon further reading into it, the movie has some of the worst dipshit characters I've ever seen in a movie. They're "fucking" animals. Passing on this one.

Speaking of this movie, have you seen Bully? No, not the documentary, but another movie directed by the same guy? Well, let me tell you it's just as bad and grotesque, but at least the asshole character gets what he deserves.

Also, the guy who plays Telly is also in it.

EDIT: Looks like the movie's based on a true story...

I've only seen parts of it, because I didn't like what I saw, so I couldn't sit through the whole thing. Most of my friends that watched it liked it though for some reason, and would even quote scenes from it. I never got that, but I guess all movies have their share of fans (otherwise things like Manos Hands of Fate, Freddy Got Fingered, and The Room would be completely forgotten).

It launched Chloe Sevigny's career, so I have to give the movie credit for that. Cause she's amazing.

I don't remember much else about the movie, so it didn't leave a lasting impression on me.

Just remember it was the nineties, the decade of Jerry Springer. "Garbage with no real point" was pretty popular.

  • Fun fact : Telly's actor plays a heroin junkie named Johnny in The Wire. The show's created said that it's basically a continuation of his character in kids.

  • You are right, mister. Chloe is amazing. Great role in The Brown Bunny.

I'll post here the trailer to another awesome movie with her - Gummo. Enjoy.

  • Isn't that some Harmony Korine movie? Yeah, that guy makes a whole lot of messed up movies from what I hear. If you think Kids is bad, go give his Wikipedia page a read and read the plot summaries for Julien Donkey-Boy or Gummo. I haven't watched any of his movies, but just from reading the plot summaries alone, there are a lot of grotesque or broken characters in his movies.

  • Oh yeah, and the movie totally sucked. But it did introduce me to A Tribe Called Quest, which most definitely doesn't suck.

  • No, Gummo is great! Watch it, Sniper. A family movie. Tell mother, father, brother, sister and watch it together.

  • I'm sure Telly was not born with HIV. Anyway, the movie was based in NYC and it's been at least 10+ years since I've lasted seen it. I'm sure I wouldn't let it much now, mostly because the teens mostly speak dumb. But I do agree, Telly and Casper are purely shitty characters.

  • Rosario Dawson was in the movie too.
