Where'd my stuff go?

I'm liking the game fine so far, bearing in mind that nothing will be likely to match CMI, my personal favorite. But I am taking a long time to solve the puzzles, as usual, I'm afraid. This I don't mind, not wanting the hints at the moment, since I am making slow but steady progress. Trouble is, my little bits of progress are not being saved! I save right before switching it off, yet when I come back, the glass U is not in my inventory, the treasure location on the map doesn't pop up as clickable when I scroll over, the grease fire is out and the little sword is either on the ground or not in the doll's hand anymore. I don't understand where the stuff is going. Trouble is, I'm not the only player, so I can't use the autosave. And I've checked and my kid is saving his in a different spot like I told him, so what gives? It's happened twice, my meager progress lost. It's not much to do over... yet. If it keeps happening, though, I am going to be fairly nonplussed...

Is this something explainable? Or is it a bug? I still haven't entirely ruled out user error (I dozed off playing last night and my son is only 7, so it's not like we're so very infallible in our habits...), but I thought I'd see if anyone here had run into the same issue.

    If you wanne rule out user errors, create an own user account for your kid in windows. so your savegames/preferences will be stored in two different folders.

    I think there's something buggy with your install. I've had no issues, granted I played through in 2 big chunks, but I didn't lose anything between the two. Are you saving from the menu or relying on the auto save?

    Happened to me once, something in my inventory disappeared.
