A New Star Trek TV Series! Any Star Trek fans on here?
As the title says, there is a new Star Trek series planned. You can read more about it here. Tell me what you guys think about it.
My thoughts:
This is great news. However I'm concerned about this phrase: "The new television series is not related to the upcoming feature film 'Star Trek Beyond,'..." If this is set in the old timeline, I may not be as interested as I want to be.

The only thing I heard about it is that past the first episode it's some CNBC exclusive? It was c something.
really? you are concerned that it isn't related to the (modern) films???
i like the films (on their own) but they really took a big sh*t on the entire star trek TV franchise and continuity, at best the modern films are set in an alternate reality, if they decided to make a TV show based on these new films then i would be concerned and would basically reject it entirely.
that said, more star trek is good, my only worry is that it is some exclusive web streaming service thing, which makes sense from a business point of view because apparently the star trek shows were one of netflix's most popular shows especially early on in it's life, but from a fan's perspective i won't be signing up to any more streaming services, it is getting ridiculous, netflix is like steam and amazon prime is like origin and now just like gaming publishers, TV wants every channel to have its own service, but nobody wants uplay just like nobody wants anymore bloody streaming services, just put it on netflix damn it.
There hasn't been enough information about it yet for me to be excited or not, but it turns out I have CBS All Access already anyway, so if that's still the case in 2017, I'll probably check it out.
A new Star Trek series not based on the crummy movies?! best news I've heard all day. The streaming thing is silly. Netflix or bust. It's steam all over again, like thestalkinghead says. But that's what piracy is for.
The last Star Trek series that I saw personally was, Star Trek Enterprise, which starred Scott Bakula. I like the show, I thought it was very good, an excellent prequel to the 1960s original Star Trek, which starred William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, and DeForest Kelley.
I would not know where they could go with a new Star Trek series, but I would be willing to watch it and to judge for myself whether or not I would keep doing so. I'm willing to give it a chance! Hopefully it'll be entertaining.
If they could be anything like TNG or Enterprise, for that matter, that would be great.
Just no more movies and please no more lens flares.
Look at this beauty...
As long as its not like the movies and like the past shows, i will be happy.
Neat. I was fine with the first new-ish movie. Not a huge fan of the series but I did like the Kirk movies and Star Trek The Next Generation. Those were pretty cool.
I want Kirk in a girdle. Saying WARP SPEED Mr SULU.
I had the exact opposite reaction. I would prefer they set the show a few decades after Voyager ended.
But really, I don't care as long as they explore strange new worlds, seek out new life and new civilizations and boldly go where no one has gone before.
Bahahahaha! Cannot unsee! xD
I wanna see Marc Alimo again. He is the greatest Kardassian known to man.
Hopefully it's more "action" packed to re-present more realistic humanity that doesn't try to always be diplomatic if it doesn't seem to work. They tend to have huge chances when their crew members are threatened instead of taking more direct actions to ensure their safety.
I mean, how many times in the various Star Trek series various Enterprise crews have had a much bigger problems due they can't accept the use of force when the diplomacy would likely fail.
I know they have these directives that the captain and up are especially expected to follow and any crew member that breaks them intentionally are punished harshly but I would like to see return of this "action Kirk."
I would actually be interested in this series talking a bit more about that period in between Star Trek First Contact (the movie) to the original series. I haven't seen much of Enterprise, which wasn't very successful, so I would like to see them go back to a less well-known time period in the Star Trek timeline.
Also, which timeline would you prefer the show take place in? I think (apart from the Enterprise time period) that the original timeline has been a bit exhausted, and that the reboot timeline would be far more fascinating to explore.
They are going to make it like the original show from what i heard.
I don't really mind as long the cast has some interesting characters.
Still I would prefer it to not being a soap opera in space.
Having not read anything about it mother than the OP, I'm assuming this series will exist in it's own non cannon universe/time line.
I think you're missing the point of Star Trek if that's what you got from watching the show. In The Next Generation, Picard didn't give a damn about being punished. He genuinely believed in the Prime Directive and the Chain of Command. That was true for most of the characters.
The whole point is that doing the right thing has costs. If everything worked out perfectly when they took the diplomatic route, it defeats the purpose of grappling with whether to use force.
It would be kind of cool if they opted for a TNG approach and used a different time period, but I would be okay if they opted for their own cannon. I would not be okay with them using another version of Kirk and crew though.
I feel that Kirk breaks the law if he believes his cause is just.
Picard in other hand. He tries to stick with the rules but even he has his "screw the rules" moments. However since his career is not in as warlike age as KIrk's, he is more used to following the rules.
But Voyager's captain. Now that is pro-rules to the point that he followed it by even if it costed his crew's chance to get home. Ironically that ended up neutralizing most of the Borg threat.
I do enjoy various Star Trek series but it should be something else than yet another space ship voyage.
Well the article sais it will introduce new characters so I'm thinking an original story!
Hooray!
Wow! It is nice to see there are Trek fans in the forums. School is drowning me at the moment, but hopefully I can update this thread if more info comes out. Lastly, here's some pics of what I did in my free time over the summer. They are incomplete, but I'm too lazy to add more details.
