TOMI's Islands

After FLOTSAM ISLAND, which already known islands would you like to see in the game? I would like to see Plunder Island and Blood Island...

    monkey island :)

I'd absolutely dig Blood Island and its "rustic charm". :D

I'm not sure I want to revisit any past islands, with the exception of Monkey Island. I mean, going back to Melee Island in EMI wasn't as great as I had hoped it would be. I say just keep doing new islands.

Plus, I'm assuming we're going back Flotsam Island at least once, since I have a feeling that courthouse will play a part in the Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood episode.

I revisited Plunder Island once. I did it by replaying Curse.

Hey, wow, Curse of Monkey Island is the third game in the series and Plunder Island is still considered classic. Wouldn't it have been terrible if, instead of Plunder Island, we got to go back to Melee and Monkey Island for every single game?

Face it. You just miss tofuhead.

I wouldn't mind not seeing Flotsam any more. It had what it takes to be a MI Island, but somehow, I suspect there are better things waiting for us. And yes, if there was a slightest possibility of revisiting Plunder Island, I'd second the motion to have it reintroduced (but only if its designed well; somehow, the 3D graphics doesn't portray the jungles so well).

Who doesn't? :P And I have this weird thought that if the Voodoo Lady gets to be a goddess (like in POTC), she'll hook up with Sherman, the Lactose Intolerant God of Mt. Acidophilus.

    "Like a volcano!" - remember? ;)

Blood Island.... its so cool looking.

other than that I would love to see TTG take on Mêlée Island. Visiting the Scumm bar never gets old.

Oh, I guess that all those cryptic references about De Singe's "slots" and volcanoes infected me with the Pox. Shame on me :p

I'd also like to see Scabb Island, for some reason :) . The Caribbean nights are much better looking than days.

Please Please Please Please TT! Do Blood Island! even if its only for half of an episode. My favorite monkey island memories are from Blood Island. It would be a dream come true to see it again, But re-done in 3D thats true to the original. not like Melee in EFMI
  • edited July 2009
If I had to choose it would be Scabb but I don't think they will return to any of them.

    Including Monkey Island.
  • edited July 2009
While I don't particularly want to see any established islands, it would be nice to have at least one "major" island again. I'm thinking of something like Melee, Plunder or even Scabb - where you can see a small piraty city of sorts, and can imagine lots of people living there permanently. As opposed to Flotsam, which is just some survivors washed up on the shore. Doesn't mean that you have to be able to enter more houses though, just having some in the background would be nice.

No one, I'm sick of living in the past.
I want new epic islands to remember the next years, not islands I've already visited.
    Nostalgia can wait.

Hehe, yeah I think that's the fun, that every new game has it's new islands, all with their own wacky historia and funny characteristics.

But i wondered, isn't it possible to simply just read the names of the map on the screaming narwhal, for the ones with very good eyesight?:o

You mean the LUA Bar. :(
Except Mr. Cheese has re-captured it and build it anew how it used to be.

I think we will definitely get back to Flotsam Island, the Voodoo Lady resides there and we will need her help once we've been to
    La Esponja Grande
    .
  • edited July 2009
On the other hand, it's the Voodoo Lady who goes "where she is needed", not Guybrush going where she currently resides. Come to think of it, we've never seen her more than once in any game.

Escape from Monkey Island's map had these islands that we never even got to go to i would like to visit them: spittle island and Pinchpenny Island
  • edited July 2009
I want to know, how many new islands will be in TMI? Any hints from the telltale crew?
  • edited July 2009
I think it only will be new islands. Remember the map on on the Screaming Narwhal? It would be cool to visit all these islands. :)
  • edited July 2009
BUt there weren't many of them on that map. There are Jerkbait Islands (probably NW), the Rock of Gelato (NE), Flotsam Island (SE), two unnamed sandy cays (SW) and a small island on the verge (NE). I think we can safely assume that episodes may take place on larger islands only. So, we have Flotsam and Jerbait Islands (which are so close that they'll probably be featured as one) and that's pretty much all. Unless Telltale wants to reuse islands between episodes, I believe there'll be some new ones (2 sets are simply not enough!)

Like most, I would prefer to see all new islands, but if I had to choose, I would say Blood. Mostly, I hope that we won't be visiting Monkey Island. There's something about it that always seemed really dull to me. It was my least favorite part of both Secret and Escape.

I kind of feel the same way....... Flotsam actually reminded me alot of Monkey Island.... so if they go there in this game it will seem kind of repetitive.

I look forward to seeing some more unique Islands from TTG I have faith they will show us something special.

Those are not to many islands...:(

Making the game appealing for new audiences meant some other old favorites had to be left behind, a fact which may not sit well with longtime fans of the series. "Some old faces will occasionally make an appearance, but for the most part, Tales of Monkey Island takes place on a whole new set of islands, having too many old characters return might feel forced," Darin explains.

Can any TellTale member elaborate on those five words? Puh-leeze?

I doubt the flotsam jungle will be part of a later episode... But the town? Sure, I can see it making a return. ;)

There's a courthouse we never got to visit and an episode with the word trial in it so chances are we get to see Flotsam more than once.

I believe the map on narwhal covers the entire area in Tales, but then, maybe there's a mystery island like the one in
    King's Quest VI
    .

I really hope that there'll be more than that. I mean, there are Jerkbait Islands, Rock of Gelato ( a pretty dull place to set an episode) and... Flotsam. Simply not enough! If they can't think of anything new, please reuse Blood/Plunder :)

Just realised that there's another episode, Lair of the Leviathan, that does not seem to need an entire new island, just a new large location. But who knows, I for one would be thrilled if we get to visit some of the older islands!
  • edited July 2009
I don't really care that much about older islands because:

    1) they will look significantly different (except maybe the ones from EfMI)
    2) it's just a name after all

What I WOULD like to see is some NIGHT time islands and hopefully one island per episode.

just out of curiosity are we sure the game is even set in the tri-island area cuz im pretty sure they mentioned a new area wen u look at the map

Honestly, with us most likely visiting Flotsam Island, the Jerkbait Islands (plural), the Rock of Gelato, and Spinner Cay in future episodes (and the constraints of Telltale's production schedule). I highly doubt we'd be revisiting any old islands at all.

Plus, not to mention Flotsam and the like are in the Gulf of Melange not the Tri-Island Area. It would seem odd to sail all the way to another part of the Caribbean for just one episode.

    Edit:

There's also the chance that a good part of one or more episodes will take place at sea.

I really doubt that the Rock of Gelato will be used as an only location for a single episode. Come to think of it, it's pretty small and dull (as far as we know). Moreover, I bet Spinner Cay's just a part of Jerkbait Islands. I believe that these two NW are Jerkbaits, with the Cay between them. Recent artworks of the Vaycaylian (?) city resemble the structure seen on the map, so it'd be probable. The Jerkbait Islands will probably feature as the location of the next episode.

The episode on the sea would be fine, but how would it look like? On several ships? On one? What about the characters? I doubt they'd give us that (though it'd be a treat, if made right).

We don't know the distance between the Tri-Island Area and the Gulf of Melange. It's possible that they border each other, so some crossings between them would not be impossible :) But I realise that to introduce an old island and recapture its oldschool charm would be a hellishly difficult thing to do right.

Maybe, Monkey Island will feature. I pray for Blood, but it's nigh impossible in this situation. Oh well, I can take everything, as long as I get one charming night-time island (see Blood) :p

marzipan... for reasons I can't explain...

A sea episode, particularly if it's Lair of the Leviathan, could actually take place underwater (since one would assume a giant sea creature would have its lair in an undersea cave). This could also mean visiting a mermaid city!

As to breathing... well Guybrush can hold his breath ten minutes... or there's always voodoo spells...

A large island like Plunder/Blood wouldn't be possible in 3D with the Wii's 40 MB limit, though. Unless they cut down most of the areas (ex - going to the Plunder island port for something).
  • edited July 2009
didnt someone from telltale say in an interview regarding if we see old islands, "that may be possible." and the word may was important for him (as in melee). an from the structur of this sentence and with a little thinking, it sounded like "that melee island be possible".
Sure no true fact, but nethertheless a small posibillity.

Spittle and Pinchpenny, two islands in EMI that were on the map, but you couldn't go there.

They looked far too touristy for my liking

Huh? We've never seen Spittle or Pinchpenny, why should they be touristy?
