Who's your ruler?

If given the opportunity to swear fealty to a king/queen who would you choose? Personally I'd serve Stannis he was the only ruler so far to make sacrifices for what he believed to be the greater good, he led his armies into battle personally, didn't desire a lavish lifestyle, and had a consistent political views and never wavered. I think the show didn't do his character enough justice personally but who would you choose?

  • Daenerys Targaryen because Dragons

  • I'm a big Northern fan, so I'd definitely swear fealty to Robb (or his heir) I really like Stannis though I could never serve him becausse of the whole Lord of Light thing. I see them as a bunch of fanatics.

  • "My Lords...MY LORDS! Here is what I say to these two kings! Renly Baratheon is nothing to me, nor Stannis neither. Why should they rule over me and mine, from some flowery seat in the South!? What do they know of the Wall or the wolfswood? Even their gods are wrong! Why shouldn’t we rule ourselves again? It was the dragons we bowed, and now the dragons are all dead! There sits the only king I mean to bow my knee to..... The King in the North!"

  • Shouldn't you be saying Harys? XD

If we're only considering characters that are alive, I'd have to go with Daenarys. I know that she is disliked by a lot of fans for whatever reason, but I personally think she would make a strong ruler. She has shown to occasionally be a little naive.. which isn't really the greatest combination with her also occasionally being a little stubborn, but I really think that these things have been dissipating as she has gained experience. Even with these flaws popping up now and then, she has acknowledged that she is still learning how to be a ruler, and she has listened to most advice given to her. She has had good advisers to learn from, and now has Tyrion at her side, who I happen to think will have a strong influence on her. Varys is obviously a huge asset as well. Aside from these things, I like her compassion, mixed with her strong sense of justice. Jorah put it best back in season two when he said that Daenarys would not only be respected and feared as a ruler, but loved as well. She is just as capable of showing utmost compassion for those that need it as she is capable of being absolutely ruthless to those that would be her enemy, and those that would harm innocents for individual gain.

Obviously she would probably have quite the uphill battle in Westeros, as I'm not really sure who would randomly decide to support a Targaryn, but Jorah seemed to think they could find support there, and he's obviously no fool. Varys also seems to think she has a legitimate shot. I haven't read the books though, so I really have no idea about any of these finer details. I just hope that she has a chance.

  • i know right lol. man that image still gets to me. not Robb so much, but grey wolf. and im not so much down King of the north as in Robb but just the Starks. fuck everyone else, i just love the Starks.

THE KING IN THE NORTH!! (COUGH JON TARGARYEN-STARK COUGH)

    That went well.

  • Helps having 3 dragons

  • all hail the great heisenberg!

  • honestly tywin would have made a really good king (he was a great hand of the king and everyone said the successful / good time of aerys' reign was because of tywin) but out of everyone alive, i really don't think any one should sit on the iron throne because 1) they most likely wouldn't be able to (i.e. tyrion) or 2) would make horrible leaders (i.e. stannis and danny)

  • Why do you think Stannis would be a horrible leader? Every piece of evidence we have about him suggests the exact opposite, that he would make, and is, a great King, because he values justice, honor, and duty over all else, was the only King to put the realm above himself by answering the Night's Watch's plea for help. He is one of, if not the greatest military commanders alive in Westeros, rewards those like Davos who serve him, based on merit and not birth. In canon, when his army is snowed in he refuses to sacrifice anyone to the R'hllor, and tells his men to pray harder, because he knows half his army is made up of non-believers. Instead, he makes a plan to trap the Freys and Boltons when they march on him, by cutting holes in a frozen lake between his camp and Winterfell, so the most part of the Bolton army will drown. When Davos brought food to Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion, Stannis made sure the rest of the garrison ate before he had anything himself. He let Melisandre kill Renly through sorcery so that there wouldn't be unneceesary bloodshed, and only had Renly killed after offering to name him his heir, but Renly refused and would have started a battle which would have killed thousands, and left the Lannisters with no serious threats to King's Landing. Just because Benioff and Weiss butchered Stannis' character at the end of season five, so that Jon can be the big hero in the next season, does not change the fact that Stannis is the rightful King of Westeros, and the only person who is qualified and deserves to sit the Iron Throne.

    In a perfect world..

Honestly though, if worse comes to worst, and the Mannis truly has been taken from us, then my support will transfer to Gendry. Delusional, perhaps, but just imagine it. A legitimized Gendry Baratheon, his father's legendary Antler Helm in place and mighty warhammer in hand, leading an army of thousands upon thousands, all in the name of House Baratheon, all to claim his rightful place on the Iron Throne. Gendry raises his warhammer into the air, shouting "Ours Is The Fury", and the tens of thousands of soldiers at his back echo his war cry, following their One True King as he fearlessly leads them into battle. That would be so badass. Extremely unlikely, yes, but undeniably badass.

  • Daenerys Targaryen - I'd rather live in Essos away from all the Westeros drama anyways, and it doesn't look as though she's moving anytime soon.

  • Robert,20 years of peace sounds nice
