It's December!

Well, it's technically the middle of December. And that's why I think this topic is totally not "too soon" as I've been avoiding Christmas music, decorations and shopping like the plague. Looks like I can't escape it anymore with only two weeks acting as a barrier, haha. Not even that, but Hanukkah has already started!

So, TellTale Forums. What do you celebrate? What are you doing for the holidays? What are you doing to get ready for the holidays?

My family celebrates Christmas. It's my first Christmas since I've started living in Massachusetts with my aunt and uncle, but we'll be traveling back to New Jersey for the holidays. It'll be the first time I'll be seeing my parents since I left home in August. I'm not wishing for anything for Christmas except for someone of New Jersey's local food such as Wawa and Rita's.

What about the rest of you?

  • I'm a celebrationist (not a real word) of Christmas myself! I'm psyched!

My sister has a friend from Japan staying with us until the 23rd, so it'll be a nice culture shock for her. Apparently, their Christmas is like the U.S. Valentines day, and New Years is like the U.S. Christmas, if you know what I'm saying.

Aside from that and Christmas, I look forward to seeing the new Star Wars with some friends I haven't been in touch with since High School.

    All I can say is:

  • That's honestly so excited. I'd be so thrilled to have a foreigner spending the holidays with me and my family. I hope they take back good memories with them!

  • I hope so too. My sister is planning on giving her the most "American experience" while she stays, and I'll get to meet her when my sister brings her over to have lunch on campus with me.

  • Every year it's a tradition in our family to make our own home made cinnamon rolls. It's usually a two-day process since the batter has to soften up so we get the badder prepared on Christmas Eve night and then finish it the next morning. We usually make two batches: one that is regular and one that is apple cinnamon.

As far as with the family we have our own dinner on Christmas Eve night and, afterwards, watch some Christmas movies and crack jokes to each other. That's about it.

  • Sounds a lot like my own family's traditions. Baking cinnamon rolls is different since most people rely on cookies. Sounds more interesting, imo.

  • The recipe was originally used in my food/nutrition science class before the end of the semester and we decided to keep the recipe. The batter can also be used to make home made pizza as well.
