Spiritual Successors (Video Games)

edited February 2016 in General Chat

Well a new game just came out today called Stardew Valley. Which is pretty much a spiritual successor to the beloved Harvest Moon Franchise. When I mean Spiritual Successor it has more in common with the late 90s and early 2000's Harvest Moon 2D top down platform games which started the franchise. Being the creators of the franchise itself have literally took it in a direction that well most fans didn't like and seem to refuse to go back to what people loved.

So I thought why not share some Spiritual Successor games you've come across? When the developers or owners of a franchise just refuse to give the players what they want and someone else decides to do it. hehe

Decided to put a clip of the original game and then it's Spiritual Successor below it. =D

Rise of Flight The First Great Air War, Spiritual Successor to Red Baron II/3D, well when they added the career mode to this 3rd party Simulation they made it to emulate the beloved Red Baron 3D Campaign mode which is almost unique to Red Baron 3D until Rise of Flight added their own. Basically get to make your own pilot and fight in the war day by day mission by mission. Become part of your own little fictional story from WWI.

Honorable Mention: Command and Conquer Renegade saw an unofficial remake, and one that the devs even got permission from EA of all people to be allowed to make, which brought us C&C Renegade X. It's amazing so I had to mention it, being it's not a Spiritual Successor but an direct Remake. Best part is, that it's Free to play. Which was part of the agreement with EA. No money can be made off of it.
