The use of songs to punch up scenes in tv shows. I tell you...no one did it better than X-Files. Any other shows that did this...Lost did it as well.

I think there are quite a few shows other than the X-Files who used music as a form of atmosphere in shows and had it pay off really well. I personally love it when shows do that. Even if the song is super happy peppy during a creepy moment, with the right amount of editing and atmosphere, they could make it work. I mean, take a look at Season 5 Episode 13 of The Walking Dead. It uses Spicks and Specks by the Bee Gees, which is a pretty upbeat and chill song, but the scene it's used for makes my skin crawl every time. It's disturbing, yet magical. I love songs in shows.
