Is the Wii cutting off ToMI?

I have finished chapter one, and I love it, waiting for chapter two. But one of my complains is the lack of atmosphere: there are no people walking on streets, all scenaries are almost static, you can't enter into buildings... And then you see the size of the chapter: around 200 MB... Then you see the Steam or Xbox 360 version of Monkey Island Special Edition, and it is around 600 MB... Even Wallace & Gromit's chapters are around 500 MB!!!
Is the game limited because the Wii version needs to be less than 200 MB? These stupid consoles... I have a Wii and I love it, but come on, you can't make a PC game of this category with a 200 MB limit size in mind...
Tales of Monkey Island needs more atmosphere, if it doesn't fit in 200 MB, then chop the Wii version, but please don't limit a legend game for a console version of a tiny and limited console...

I *was* going to point out how unintentionally funny the title of this thread is, but then I decided that would be inappropriate and to just keep my mouth shut.

You can't compare MISE with just one Chapter of ToMI.
First of all, there is a lot more dialog in MISE and the graphics are bitmaps (probably in different resolutions) which are bigger than character models and textures.

Concerning missing characters and entering houses i agree. But somewhere it was stated that there were supposed to be more characters walking around, but didn't make it into the first episode.
Maybe we will be able to enter more houses in later chapters.

Sorry, english is not my native language (as you can see for my awful expressions) and It's not my intention to make a funny tittle...

DjNDB, I am not comparing ToMI and MI: SE's size because the graphics or the voices, I am comparing because they both are downloadable games, noting that a digital game doesn't need to be a tiny file, there are digital games of 500 or 600 MB...

What I can compare is a Wallace & Gromit's chapter (almost 500 MB) and a Tales of Monkey Island's Chapter (200 MB)... And honesty I think Wallace & Gromit has more detailed textures, more detailed scenaries, and better atmosphere... These are things related to the size of the file... And then you see that the Wiiware games have a limited size by Nintendo, and Tales is on Wii and Wallace & Gromit not...
Maybe I am speculating and it is not Wii fault, but then I think Tales is technically a step down in textures and atmosphere compared to Wallace & Gromit, and I would like to know why, and if it is because its size...

I have the demo for the PC (my computer can run it, but the framerate is bad...even in 640x40), and the detail at the beginning looks fine.

And I'm glad it's on the Wii personally, as it's the only next-gen system I have. Since my PC won't comfortably run the game, I have to play it on a console. And the one console I have is the one it's coming out on.

    I think it'll be fine.

But the Wii isn't a nex... OK, I'll stop right there. As far as compression is concerned I don't think the Wii makes much difference. If they thought that the sound quality was inadequate, they'd just recompress it for the PC release.

However it does put limitations on the amount of content, but if I understood Jake correctly most of the cases where content was cut were due to time constraints, not lack of storage.

I'd say this is more or less right. I mean, yes there are definitely differences between designing a game with Wii in mind as opposed to Xbox, but it's more on the scene/art level than on the overall design. You can't have really gritty detailed Gears of War type textures because when you compress the textures down you just get a muddy mess. Instead, you try to work with brighter colors and shapes to give your atmosphere.

In terms of number of unique environments and characters and stuff, I think if you compare WG to ToMI you will find that they are remarkably similar. Over the past three or four years I think we've gotten a pretty good feel for what is produceable within the rigid monthly release schedule. If you start trying to cram more and more environments into the game, the game as a whole starts to lose polish and direction.

sorry for offtopic here but you realy can't call the wii "next generation" the graphics are nearly the same as on the gamecube... actually the wii is just a better gamecube with new controlls... but nintendo had to make a new console out of the controlls because otherwise not even half the people who now own a wii would have bought just a new controller for gamecube...
    sorry for offtopic again
    now back to topic please...

Before somebody brings it up, the "40MB Wiiware limit" is for the compressed download only. Not the decompressed game that ends up on the Wii.

    There, now continue.

I'm sure if the companies have the balls to publish "Wiiware" before the game come out, they would have long resolved these foreseeable technicalities, especially since the programming for a game on Wii is distinctly different from a game on PC.

I am just thinking if the delay got anything to do with the much rumored new wii.
