Lechuck

I really wish that telltale would of got Earl Boen again for lechuck's voice. Even the remake of Monkey Island 1 had Earl Boen.

So did you guys ask and he refused? or did you not bother?

Cause the guy you have now does not sound pirate like at all. and frankly every time i heard the har, har, har. I died a little on the inside. It was the worst sound Ive ever heard. Actually just about anytime he talked i couldnt stand it.

I quite liked him to be honest and I think the har har hars were intentional.

Why does everyone pick on the dudes Har Har har!?

Sounds like he is just doing his best to keep in character seriously listen to Earl's AAARRR! and HAAARS! in this clip... sounds just as silly and over the top..... Like its supposed to.

I can't explain it, but that JUST WORKS, Earl Boen just suits it and it seems both Piratey and Bad Guy like in a perfect balance, the new guy, who I hope gets better fast, his HARR HARRR HARRR just sounds terrible, more like a kid pretending to be a Pirate whilst mocking another kid because he got more Ice Cream. Even in the remake, all those "ughs, argh, acks" etc from LeChuck sounded in character and I'm glad Earl Boen keeps this style.

Maybe it has to do with that the mood of TOMI's LeChuck is more silly as well? When on the boat he seemed so happy and did not look fearsome at all, just disgusting :) While I think the ghostly pixels in the original Monkey Island are pretty ridiculous, the remake really made a good graphical representation of him. In the second game he looks fearsome with his rotten body and red eyes. Just look at: http://www.pwned.com/gamecovers/pc/e7013a39c1973bb0c9d7a670ace04d25-Monkey_Island_2__LeChuck_s_Revenge.jpg

Finally, I agree that the original voice is better.

There's a reason Mr. Boen couldn't do voice over work for TMI. It's because he's retired and taking care of his family, i believe. He only took on the SMISE because there already was a set script to follow which meant less time in the studio. Unlike TMI where it's episodic and the script is a continuous work in project which means he'd have to come back to the studio once he's called for. Now I'm sure that when you're retired, you don't really like being bothered to still go to work every few months, do you? All that i've said is all here in this forum. Take a look at the old posts and threads once in awhile. m'kay, pumpkin?:)

LOOK BEHIND YOU, A THREE HEADED MONKEY!!!

edit: He's retired somewhere in Hawaii. Peace! :)

Honestly I found the voice in Tales fine. It's similar enough and it's definately not *bad* (i.e. like changing Elaine from British to American bad), so I don't see the problem with it.

Honestly, the only voice that really stood out (as unusual) to me was the newspaper guy. If only because Brian Doyle-Murray is in freaking EVERYTHING these days, dear god. He has a great voice but it's so recognizable that it ruins a bit of the immersion :P

To me it just feels like the new guy doesnt seem to want to be the part. It sounds like hes just half trying to get by. He has no soul to bring in a hippy like statement.

It just feels like hes forcing it. Its just not deep and angry enough.

I think it also has something to do with LeChuck turning into a jolly friendly pirate just half an hour into the game, changing his tone from evil to good, probably. I wonder how that would've sounded with Earl.

So the LeChuck voice actor signed up to play the friendly human LeChuck, and just partly the evil one.

Actually, Nipperkin is voiced by Tim Talbot. He does kind of sound like Brian Doyle-Murray though, doesn't he?

The only thing that really sounds off to me is the... har har harrr... I don't know what it is... he just sounds kind of... sarcastic. I think.

I've never heard of this Brian Doyle Murray, but someone who is in pretty much everything is Steven Jay Blum.

Anyone notice the change in the voice for the line
    I'm...human?
    ?

I think that the new voice will work just fine with a
    human LeChuck
, and I honestly did not notice the difference enough to be bothered.

Did not notice, can't be bothered. :P

Anyway, it's always nice to see new voicing talents in game. Who knows? That might end up to be the voice of another future franchise, like how Dominic totally owns the spot for Guybrush.
