Captain America Civil War reviews (spoiler free)

Post your opinions/reviews of Captain America Civil War here! Here's mine below:

You know it's an odd thing. When you overhype something it normally ends up being a disappointment, it's something I was sadly doing going in watching it, but that turned out to be a good thing as this is the best MCU movie since The Winter Soldier.

I don't know how they done it really, this movie SHOULD be a mess. There's an awful lot of characters in it with an awful lot of powers being thrown around in the film, but it's still a very well paced and cohesive narrative. I think it's because this is not an Avengers movie. Well technically not, it's a Captain America one. And you can tell really since he has many scenes which are exclusive to his character arc from his previous movies, which mind you... is a good thing in my book.
SOMEHOW this movie is both, one of the funniest movies (thanks to Spider-Man and Ant-Man) as well as one of the more emotionally harrowing ones since it deals with several personal matters with the character's motives and actions that build up the conflict. Oh and that's ANOTHER thing the film done really well! The reasons behind the conflict starting are just insane, Everyone has a motive. I can imagine people will have different opinions on which side was right, but I won't mention anything else otherwise it'll get into spoiler territory.

The characters are all excellently woven into this plot of heroes vs. heroes. One personal gripe I always had with Joss Whedon's Avengers films (particularly the first one) was that there was always one character who out-shined the rest. But not here, EVERYONE gets their memorable/badass scene. Newcomers such as Black Panther and Spider-Man are excellently intoduced also, which is something I'm very impressed with it is since there's already so much going on in the plot at the same time. And thanks to how well done they both were I'm already very excited for both of their movies!

Speaking of, I'm gonna talk about the Wall Crawler. Anyone who knows me has a good idea that I'm quite the big fan of Spider-Man. He's my favourite comic book character of all time, bar none. So him being in this movie was a huge deal for me, Marvel FINALLY have him in their film universe! And what did I think of him? He was absolutely brilliant! Tom Holland absolutely destroys Garfield and Maguire in comparison. The problem with Spider-Man before in film was that he was never represented right, with Maguire we got an awkward geeky character (like Peter is in his early life) and a Spider-Man who's quips are pretty much non-existent whom didn't have any development at all. With Garfield we got a better Spider-Man but a Peter Parker who I honestly didn't relate to all that much, which was quite annoying as Pete is known for being one of the most relatable comic book characters... pretty much ever really. And that's where Tom Holland shines, he excells at both, we got a Peter Parker who's in all honesty a complete dork and a Spider-Man who's just a pure smartass and loudmouth. I loved every second he was on screen, he's actually in the movie a bit more than I thought he was gonna be also. This movie honestly got me more excited for Spider-Man Homecoming than anything else! Anyway to sum it up, Tom Holland is the best Peter Parker/Spider-Man to date by a landslide.

This film however isn't without it's flaws. But they're surprisingly few. The only major gripe was the main antagonist, but to be honest that's never been MCU's strongsuit (well, except for the TV show villains) and isn't here either, but I won't give much else away other than that.

So to wrap it up we got what is possibly my favourite superhero film in ten years and the best MCU entry to date. Just when you thought Marvel were about to drop in quality, this comes out and proves everyone wrong. And the Russo brothers somehow made a better Avengers movie than Joss Whedon did and it's not even an Avengers movie technically. Yeah, a bit weird.

Anyway, film gets an A+ well done Marvel!

  • I have to admit. While I have always liked Spider-man, this was the movie that made me love him. Tom Holland definitely plays both a good Peter Parker and a good Spider-man.

Also I love Ant-Man and Black Panther in this movie.

While not a flawless movie, I definitely enjoyed it. :)

  • This movie was absolutely amazing. I loved damn near everything about this movie. I didn't think the villain was that bad actually but he doesn't compare to the Netflix baddies. Tom Holland is a great mix between the Sam Raimi and Marc Webbs Spider-Man (A geeky awkward teen and a mouthy alter ego).
