Here's an Idea that would be awesome!

Okay, Marduk and I had an Idea. You know the Insult Sword Fighting thread? I was looking over it, and there are some GREAT insults in there. What if Telltale added some of them in in a later chapter? You know, include some of them to a brand new insult swordfighting puzzle or challenge. I'm figuring here that if enough people are interested, something might happen. So, what do you guys think?

I'm in. Thought about something like that already.
Unfortunately, it's TTG's decision, not ours.

The problem with adding insult sword fighting isn't that they can't come up with insults. It is that they can't come up with a way of adding it while making the puzzle fresh and new. Adding a straight copy of insult sword fighting from the previous games with new insults would just seem repetitive. If you want to see insult sword fighting in TMI then you need to come up with suggestions to solve this problem, rather than coming up with good insults.

Yeah, I agree with shmeh. I'd hope the insult sword fighting in TMI would be different, somehow new and fresh, also the ones in the thread aren't THAT good, they're good but not great.

I was actually going to propose this idea for a later contest. Perhaps, if we are both lucky, it may be a reality?

    Perhaps...

    Ehhhhhh.

I'd rather not see more insult swordfighting in the name of fan service. It was fun the first and third times but we really don't need it anymore.

I agree. Good insults help, though. Well, maybe we should brainstorm some of these ideas. Like, for instance, maybe Guybrush's poxed hand gets hold of Lil' Guybrush or Lil' LeChuck. Then he has to insult sword fight his hand. That would be cute. Or, maybe during a swordfight, his hand could punch or slap him if he got one wrong. Not great, but they're a start!

Well, even GOOD insults are better than NO insults, right?

I would prefer no insults to a forced or even merely decent adaption. If it can be done well, great sure. If not don't force it.

I'd like to see it as a cutscene with just a few lines, rather than an active part of the game. Perhaps Carla returns briefly as an insult swordfighting-trainer at a pirate holiday resort a-la Dirty Dancing and she's with a student/holiday maker when you walk in.

True. We don't need another Murray from MI4. :)

What if his hand is so good at dueling, he actually has to choose the lamest comeback, so he wouldn't stab whoever he's fighting. :P

On a side note, I allways wanted to duel LeChuck. It would be cool if Guybrush can't win without solving an inventory-related puzzle while desperatly fending off LeChuck's awesome swordplay.

Hm, I read somewhere that there will be insults and sword fighting but no insult sword fighting...
Insult grog drinking or just an insulting competition maybe (because they have to save money and ran out of swords)?

I would love to see insult dreidel.

*daydreaming of Guybrush doing the dreidel song

You may be on to something there.... the idea needs polishing but there is a spark of something there that could work.

I'd be incredibly disappointed if TMI followed in CMI's footsteps of copying and pasting Secret of Monkey Island and LeChuck's Revenge jokes word-for-word.

The addition of Insult Swordfighting in EfMI was a shame, there just wasn't enough of it. However they incorporated it into the plot enough for it to become more than just a favourite puzzle. And then Monkey Kombat was the result, which wasn't really anything like we started with. Anyway, I hope that if we get it in ToMI, it will be very, very different.

I love the idea of GT trying to loose the duel, but
    the pox
keeps causing him to win it. The lamest comeback, however, I don't like so much. I've taken it away, had a think about it, and this is what I've come up with.

You have to duel a small number of pirates (lets say four) and have to loose to each pirate. You are given a small number of insults that defeat the pirate. You are also given a small number of lame insults and compliments. When you try one of these,
    the pox takes over
and you deliver a devastating insult
    in the demon voice
that defeats the pirate more comprehensively. The way you solve the puzzle is,
you find some personal information about each pirate. You use the information to to come up with an insult that would be strong against most people, but is actually inspirational to this particular pirate.

    I'll use
    D'Oro
from ep.1 for the purpose of an example.
If you were to fight D'Oro, you would first have to find out about his passion for Porcelain Power Pirates. After this, when you fight him you get the option of an insult along the lines of "You have the agility of a Porcelain Power Pirate!". Most people and the pox interpret it as "You are as stiff as a motionless doll!", but D'Oro interprets it as "You are as awesome as the most awesome PPP!". This inspires him to win the fight against the pox.

Great idea, Shmeh! I like that!
