Here about what it is worth remembering before you judge others

Australian illustrator Toby Morris has created a comic book that reminds us that not everyone in life has the same opportunities as we do. This is a story about two people who were born in different families, and what role their people close to play in their fate.

“Jon, that's one interpretation of the comic. Another would be that its author is attempting at showing that the concept of equality of opportunity is a farce. Of course there will be people who start in the right column and through hard work and some luck end up in the left. That's not really the point.

The point, as I infer it, is that when conservatives go on about "equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome," they're either blinded to the fact that equality of opportunity doesn't exist or they're aware of that fact and simply being disingenuous.

I'm happy for you that your parents knew the value of education and hard work and instilled those values in you and your siblings. Many people are not so lucky in who they get as parents.

This comic seems to be aimed at making people aware of the opportunities that they enjoy, which others do not. I view it as a reminder that those of us who have gotten somewhere in our lives did not do so through the proverbial pulling up of our own bootstraps, but on the shoulders of others, be they parents, taxpayers, teachers, or others. This knowledge, that our successes are not merely our own, can hopefully instill in us some empathy for people who didn't have similar opportunities, and maybe that empathy can inform our positions on certain social policies.” — Henry Case

  • That has to be one of the best comic strips I've ever seen.

  • Phew, it's a good thing they didn't mention race, gender, or sexuality at all being a factor otherwise you'd get everybody screaming at each other. (Not like I didn't just make an self-awaredly trolly statement). Apparently everybody can get behind the idea that there is such a thing as disadvantages due to economic factors, but hint at social ones - look out.

  • There is no eplanation I can offer personally, except for that life isn't fair. Nothing is fair in this world.

And the reason the world is in the shape it's in is because of the downside of human nature - like Greed, Selfishness, having a sense of Entitlement, and etc.

Because people are purely looking out for themselves and what they want and need, instead of trying to work together, and helping each other when someone is in need, is why the world is in such a mess.

That and the fact that people do not want to take responsibility for anything, nor be held accountable for what they do.
