Still way too early for me to pick a goty for 2016.
Edit: Wait, can we pick a game for goty if the game came out in one year, but we played it another? Because there are some games I'd put before 1996.
2016: Dark Souls 3
2015: Tie with Bloodborne and Fallout 4

1999: Spyro 2
1998: Zelda: Ocarina Of Time
A lot of these would be unpopular opinions, but I'm basing these off of what games I had the most fun with, rather than what the best game is, objectively. (For example, witcher 3 in 2015)
List for the years of Xbox 360 & Xbox One I've played - Games in brackets are a close second
Why is TWD S3 on your list when it wasn't even released?
Niether is Gears 4 or Battlefield 1, thats why I put 'predicitions'
Love these threads:
2016: The Division (so far)
2015: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
2014: Assassin's Creed: Rogue
2013: I'm sorry but this is impossible for me to pick between, 2013 was possibly the best year in gaming ever and I honestly couldn't pick one of these over the other...so:
2012: Assassin's Creed 3 or The Walking Dead, very tough call.
2011: L.A. Noire (Another excellent year though, a lot of very solid games...but this was a standout)
2010: Xenoblade Chronicles (my favourite game of all time)
2009: Assassin's Creed 2
2008: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots
2007: CoD4: Modern Warfare
2006: Ōkami
2005: Black
2004: Star Wars: BattleFront
2003: The Simpsons: Hit & Run
2002: Ratchet & Clank
2001: Jak And Dexter: The Precursor Legacy
I'm curious what everyone thinks are the best and worst years of gaming? I would say 2013 and 2011 were the best, 2014 was very sub-par for me. Even though I chose AC: Rogue, there were no standout games for me at all released in 2014.
2014 was terrible.
2015 was good though, Metal Gear 5, Witcher III, Fallout 4, Bloodborne, Batman, LiS, Tales from the Borderlands, Tomb Raider, Black ops 3, Star Wars, Assassins Creed, Six Seige, Just Cause 3, Borderlands The handsome collection, Fifa 16
Yeah it was pretty good now that I look back at it. I still would put 2013 over it but 2015 was definitely solid.
2008 - Left 4 Dead
2009 - Left 4 Dead 2
2010 - Metro 2033
2011 - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
2012 - The Walking Dead: Season 1
2013 - Metro: Last Light
2014 - Alien: Isolation
2015 - Tales from the Borderlands
2016 - Too early to tell
Looking forward to E3, interesting to see what will be announced
I didn't find 2014 to be too bad, it had Smash Bros U, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Child Of Light, Shovel Knight, Dragon Age Inquisition, Sunset Overdrive, Far Cry 4, Shadow Of Mordor, Hyrule Warriors, Driveclub, Forza Horizon 2, Alien Isolation, Pokemon ORAS, etc.
Fair enough if you liked it, but none of the games you listed interested me except for Sunset Overdrive, even then I haven't gotten around to playing it yet.
uurgh another list thread
2015 witcher 3
2014 stick of truth
2013 dmc devil may cry
2012 asuras wrath
2011 rise of nightmares (kinnect horror, fun with friends)
2010 army of two
I wont bother going back too far most of you whipper snappers were probably still playing with dolls back then
Edit + every sillent hill game ever made including p.t
Yeah, 2014 was possibly the worst year for video games. TWD S2 was disappointing (It's not bad actually), Watchdogs was such a bad GTA spin-off, Assassin's Creed Unity, man, the glitchiest Assassin's Creed game in the history etc.
The best years for VGs were 2015, 2013, 2009 in my opinion.
2015 had Until Dawn, Tales from the Borderlands, Game of Thrones, Batman Arkham Knight, Dying Light, Metal Gear Solid v Phantom Pain etc.
2013 had The Last of Us, Outlast, GTA 5, Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag etc.
2009 had Uncharted 2 Among Thieves, Batman Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed 2, etc.
I think Dragon Age Inquisition, for 2014, has its merits. It's not perfect, but it's certainly better than most other big games of 2014. And its DLCs are wonderful, particularly the last. It has a cracking soundtrack too.
Nah, 1983 was worse, considering the video game market crashed that year. Or at least it was the worst for console gaming.
I thought the story was very solid and the world was just beautiful to play in. However, I did say that 2014 was possibly the worst year for gaming in my eyes, so even though I chose it, doesn't it make one of my favourite games.
It was the first Assassins Creed I 100%'ed though. I did enjoy it...was cool to play as a Templar instead of an Assassin for once.
Last year , Undertale. This year , probably Uncharted 4.
Jesus, I can barely remember what I did yesterday, how am I supposed to remember my favorite games? Well, for this year so far, I'd give it to Homefront The Revolution.
Awesome thread idea.
2016 - Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
2015 - Fallout 4 (just dumped in a butt load of hours into it man)
2014 - infamous: Second Son (Didn't play a lot of games from that year, but this is my favorite one)
2013 - The Last of Us
2012 - The Walking Dead
2011 - Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception
2010 - Red Dead Redemption
2009 - Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
2008 - Fallout 3
2007 - Bioshock
I honestly have to say that so far this year Doom is a much higher frontrunner than Uncharted 4 (I still have Mirror's Edge: Catalyst to look forward to). It was a great experience, but it pales in comparison to grinding zombie flesh on chainsaw blades or rail gunning two cyber demons' faces into pulp at the same time... within a span of four seconds.
Something about the retro-like fast paced gunplay is so reminiscent of the original Doom it's a hell of a more fun time than hopping ledges and solving puzzles interrupted ever so often by the odd shoot-out or the stealth segments (both are quite fun in their own right I understand) and the all-to-frequent lengthy cut scenes halted the gameplay far too often. It was evident without even researching it that Naughty Dog switched out the original creative designers of the PS3 trilogy with the Last of Us', cause it's pacing was a bit more laborious and felt off at times.
I am super excited to try out the online component of the game though, Uncharted has never disappointed with it's multiplayer function so I'm excited to see how the structure with change this time around.
How many hours are you into Fallout 4? And how many did you do on Fallout 3?
Countless man. Countless.
2016: I've played AC: Syndicate this year. That was fun. Other than that, it's been a slow start for me this year.
2015: Life Is Strange (followed by Game of Thrones.)
2014: The Wolf Among Us. I enjoyed S2 of TWD as it came out, but in retrospect, it certainly wasn't a masterpiece.
2013: Bioshock Infinite! Impressive visuals, great story, nice mechanics.
2012: The Walking Dead - Season 1: Does this really need explaining?
2011: Portal 2. One of the few games I can still go back to all the time and love.
I giggled a little when I saw Homefront
16 Days (384 hours) for Fallout 4 atm. (Xbox) I have less time now due to work etc.
For Fallout 3, I had 700 hours on one character. Easily 1800+ hours on console and around 300+ for PC.
Fallout New Vegas, I had maybe around 1000 hours for console and about 400+ on PC, didnt get to play as much as I was playing games like Gears of War
1998 is the undisputed king of gaming years, just look at some of the classics that released: MGS1, Ocarina of Time, Half-Life 1, Crash Bandicoot, Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate, Tekken 3, Resident Evil 2, Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Party, StarCraft, etc. Hell, TLoZ: OoT, MGS1 and Half-Life 1 are pretty much the holy trinity of 90s video gaming all released in one year.
1983 is the worst because gaming almost died off in the west as a result of the disastrous North American video game crash that year. In recent times, it is probably 2014 though.
To be honest I don't remember the story too well, I just remember liking it.
Also, keep in mind Rogue is my favourite game of 2014, and 2014 was a terrible year for gaming imo. So in comparison to the other AC's, it isn't up there...it's just literally the only choice I could boil down to for 2014. In fact, here's all the AC games ranked in my opinion:
I never played the original btw. But as you can see, Rogue isn't even in my top 5. I prefer it over Unity because I found Unity's story to be incredibly cheesy and kinda immature. Regardless of the Assassin/Templar conflict, Rogue handled it's themes well and I found I connected with Shay more than Arno. Unity had much better graphics, but Rogue was a lot more fun to explore. I wouldn't say a 'Black Flag' ripoff, because nearly every AC game has been largely similar to the previous titles...even so, Rogue expanded on Black Flags mechanics more making for better gameplay imo.
Starting from a year I have played enough games in to be able to form an opinion on the stuff released that year:
1994 - Super Metroid/Mother 2 (pretty much splitting hairs on this one)
1995 - Chrono Trigger
1996 - Super Mario 64
1997 - Fallout 1
1998 - Metal G.O.A.T Solid (though there is a lot of stuff neck and neck with it)
1999 - Planescape: Torment
2000 - Deus Ex
2001 - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
2002 - Metroid Prime
2003 - The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
2004 - Metal Gear Solid 3/Half-Life 2 (can't really pick one or the other)
2005 - Shadow of the Colossus
2006 - Okami
2007 - BioShock
2008 - Metal Gear Solid 4
2009 - Demon's Souls
2010 - Mass Effect 2
2011 - Dark Souls (besides Portal 2, I found the big award winners this year, such as Arkham City and Skyrim, to be very overrated as video games)
2012 - The Walking Dead: Season 1
2013 - The Last of Us
2014 - Bayonetta 2
2015 - Undertale
2016 - way too early to pick
Boy, looking back, I have to say 2010 to now has been kind of weak for video games. Hopefully things can start picking up soon.
You think mass effect 2 is weak??
Nay, it was fantastic, but I mean the year as a whole (as well as the years in gaming that followed it). Mass Effect 2 + all the others games I picked for 2011/12/13/14/15 are all phenomenal though.
Just as I expected you would.
That was released on 2015
What about Alien Isolation?
