Would The Adventures of Tintin be a good franchise for Telltale?

edited July 2009 in General Chat
Though not a series I've familiar with, a friend of mine has said that he thinks Tintin would be a good franchise for Telltale to pick up. Any thoughts?

I would definitely buy it since I collect the Tintin books and have loved those ever since I was 5 years old. One problem is that it would have to look like one of the comic books in order to get the right feeling. This could be solved with cell shading but from what I've seen it's hard to do it right. For the plot elements and adventure game suitability I'd say yes!

I love Tintin comics. I would buy a Tintin's Adventure from Telltale, the first day.

I would love it, but only in drawn, 2D graphics, like the books.

In other words, you wouldn't love it if Telltale made it.

I think it would probably well go down well in germany (where, i understand, is the place the comic comes from) which is good because AGs are most popular there anyway, from what I here.

I don't think that's a particularly good translation of what he said.

    Isn't that Belgium?

I dont mind backgrounds, just the charactrs wouldn't look good in 3D.

TinTin is okayish but i rather would like to see Trondheim's Lapinot or Miller's Sin City adventures instead.

There is going to be a Tintin game made by Ubisoft Montpellier (who created Beyond Good & Evil and are working on the sequel) based on the film to be released in 2011.

Yeah, now that Spielberg and Jackson have teamed up to do Tintin, I'd say the franchise is a little over Telltale's paygrade.

If Lucasart's were still doing original IP's I could see Spielberg going to them with it, but then the graphics would be stop-motion to mimic the film. Also above Telltale's paygrade.

Oh no. Chances are we're going to see a "darker" Tintin, dualwielding and jumping over fences like some trained assassin.
I would really, really love to see a Tintin story written just for the game medium.

Yes, it is Belgium, not Germany. From what I've heard they've got a nice comic museum in Brussels.

    Stop-motion? The movies are motion-captured 3D CGI aren't they?

So it would work pretty well in the Telltale Tool IMO.

TTG have already proved they CAN mimic stop-motion though with W&G.

Never a fan of the comic, so why not? I might end up liking it and all.

Hey, how about Asterix? I wouldn't mind an Asterix Telltale game. Though Asterix is pretty action oriented sometimes.

Why not Mortadelo y Filemón? (They have several different names outside Spain: Clever & Smart, Fred & Jeff, Flip & Flop...)
Alcachofa Soft did many funny 2D adventure games with them.
I think Telltale could make great games with the characters (even in 3D), and I think they aren't a very expensive franchise for Telltale to get the rights.

    How about 600

    Keep-Al20be cool.

Lots of high quality European comics to choose from, if they ever decided to do another series based on comic books.

Tintin rocks, btw. But there are some albums they might want to leave alone :D

I love Tintin and can't wait for the movies. I'm sure TTG would do the series justice (is it very famous in the US?) but... Id be happy if they just kept making S&M, W&G and Tales.

We dont what them spead too thin! :)

i think tintin is really good, i love the cartoons!

But i don't think it's telltale game's style. it's 2d and not exactly the over-the-top humour we've had in s&m, sbcgfap, or tomi. althoughmaybe a little bit like w&g.. In a weird way...

A tintin game qould be great if done right, which i whole heartidly think ttg could do, but i think ttg's art style could alienate fans of the comics and cartoon

Well, yeah I always get the names of those mixed up. I meant motion-capture not stop motion. :P

Now you know why I use the qualifier "i understand". (Not a good qualifier, now I think about it).

For some reason I read this as "The Adventures of Rin Tin Tin" :P
