Comments

  • Just a reminder: Please remember to read the Telltale Community Guide to Decency in regards to having discussions/arguments/debates about social issues, politics, religion, or other bigger issues.

(Just a heads up, your "acceptable posts" don't have to sound as robotic as the examples we give below. Rather, those are just examples of how you can frame your argument in general without generalizing other people and/or breaking the Forum Guidelines about being civil.)

    Telltale Community Guide to Decency

(Having civil arguments and debates of Social Issues/Politics/Religion/etc on the Forums)

The Telltale Community was created as a forum to discuss the games created by Telltale Games. The forum has also allowed discussion of topics not related to Telltale Games, but as with all other discussions on the Telltale Community, we ask that you follow the rules and guidelines set forth by the forum guidelines and the Telltale website's Terms of Use.

The terms of use prohibits posts that promote racism, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual; harasses or advocates harassment of another person or invades their privacy. This makes the forums welcoming for every gamer, no matter what background they come from. When you are having arguments or debates with other users, we won't stifle dissenting opinions and views if they are expressed in a constructive manner, but we ask that you avoid personal attacks/generalizations of people and instead aim for constructive and civil discussion. People are free to have alternative views on subjects in an argument or debate, so please respect that. We ask that you follow those standards for any discussion here on the forums, whether it is about Telltale Games or any off topic discussion.

In an argument/debate/etc, you may express personal disagreement on certain topics/issues, but refrain from personally insulting or generalizing other individuals/groups of people for their stance on an issue, or being discriminatory against someone's gender/race/orientation/disability/etc. If you feel another user is expressing a hateful or bigoted opinion, constructively explain why you think that is instead of personally attacking them and instigating an argument.

Focusing on facts and reasoning instead of personal insults and generalizations in the middle of a debate/argument/etc not only keeps discussion civil, but it also strengthens your arguments and makes others more likely to take your views into consideration.

Examples of acceptable posts (or in other words, good ways to frame your arguments/thought process):
"I disagree with your opinion. Here are my reasons why."
"I disagree with this social issue because of my religion. Here is what my religion states about the matter."
"I disagree with this social issue, but I don't look down on you personally for holding that opinion."
"I believe your views on this subject don't treat everyone fairly. Here are my reasons why."
"I don't believe in religion, but I don't look down on those who do."

    Examples of unacceptable posts:
"Why would you have that opinion? That's idiotic."
"Engaging in that social issue is unnatural and all people who do it are immoral."
"Your views on this social issue make you a bigot."
"All people who practice your religion are homophobes."
"I don't know why people are still religious. Religion is stupid."

Please remember that we have people from all cultures on these forums, so be respectful. If you were within a group of people who were among those who have views different to your own, and the language you would use would cause them to become upset, don't use that language on the forum. Any viewpoint is welcome here, as long as you are respectful when discussing it.

  • At this point someone could probably run paid weekly magazine about these things. Terrorism is so common nowadays (not that it didn't happen previously.)

  • I know T_T I'm heartbroken too...I think I'll go and draw what I feel on a pavement...sob...

Speculating whether or not the attack is perpetrated by ISIS or another party is fine, but if you want to speculate, do it in a way that leads to genuine discussion and is not snarky low quality posting.

Likewise, when the terrorist is revealed to not fit your stereotypes, do not continue to derail the thread with more snarky low quality posting - focus on having actual discussion. Stay on topic and make genuine contributions or do not post. Don't use this thread as a soapbox to stereotype entire religions over the actions of a group of terrorists.

The thread is not locked because of people speculating it might be people of a certain religion, it is locked because of the low quality posting taking priority over legitimate discussion.
