Can a Movie Be So Good, It's Bad?

So earlier today, the Nostalgia Critic released a new video editorial titled, Can a Movie Be So Good It's Bad, where he discusses that feeling you get when you watch a movie that's very well crafted and you should love, but it for some reason doesn't strike a chord with you. It was a pretty interesting video and I'd check it out when you get the chance, but it really got me thinking. There's quite a few films I've seen that I got that feeling from. I was just curious to see if you guys have seen any movies where you felt that same way.

Here's mine:

Yep, its called being overrated. Movies that get immensely positive reviews and are mentioned CONSTANTLY (Frozen would be my example) tend to alienate people from watching said movie making them automatically hate it. or overhype it. I haven't seen the editorial so I can't say were talking about the same thing exactly, but I get the gist. Its not just restricted to movies either it could be a song, game, show, or whatever, hell even a food.

  • Not necessarily what I'm talking about. I'm talking about movies that you see really nothing wrong with and you should be invested in, but for some reason, don't grab you as much as they should. And you really don't know why.

  • Don't think that's what he meant.

  • Nope, never happened to me. The opposite though, that's a different story.

  • Everything can be anything you want it to be. Lol.

  • Damn. You didn't like Spotlight or The Revenant? :(

Spotlight I could understand as it did have its boring moments.

  • I didn't dislike them by any means. They were both very well crafted, but there was this strong disconnect that I can't explain and shouldn't have been there.

  • This.

  • I agree that the best term would be overrated. Out of all the films I've seen, Mad Max Fury Road is the first one to come to mind. I thought the action and cars were really over the top, and I think the Mad Max films should have ended with the Road Warrior. Fury Road didn't feel remotely like Mad Max 1 or 2 (which were, in my opinion, the best of the series).

  • You say Fury Road is so good its bad, I say Beyond Thunderdome is so bad its good.
