My one complaint about TOMI Ep. 1 (Spoilers?)

For an island that's been sucking in ships for who-knows-how-long, it sure seemed... lonely and lifeless. It's like every ship that crashed there had only one passenger, and those passengers have all been super-glued to one location.

I kind of miss having random NPCs walking around - and speaking of NPCs, I can't recall anywhere outside of the opening sequence where there has been more than 1 NPC on screen, whereas Strong Bad and W&G would regularly have multiple people on screen and doing more than just waiting for you to interact with them.

Now don't get me wrong, I really loved the game (my first MI) and it got me to go and purchase SOMI:SE, but I really hope TTG can breathe a little more life into the next episode.

Jake said that there were originally plans for NPCs, but they had to be cut due to time constraints. Maybe in Ep2?

There are supposed to be alot of them in the bar... plus the jungle was supposed to be a maze like.... uh jungle.... So maybe there is a whole village hidden in there that we didn't (couldnt on purpose) find.... I guess we are supposed to use our imagination.

Oh, ok. That's actually good news - I was afraid it was due to technical issues.

I'm part of the "Numero Uno" club right now - I can really only play the game smoothly on setting #1! I was afraid that the reason there were so few NPCs is because it would have been too taxing on older systems to include more.

I once ran around on Flotsam Island. There were people and animals all playing around in the sand.

But it was just my imagination running a way with me.

Well, in my mind, I just justified it as most people who haven't been killed by the Marquis de Singe are just hanging out in Club 41 :)

But aside from the number, that fact that Nipperkin, Glass-unicorn-guy, and British-dude just stand/sit around waiting for you also bugged me. I'm forgiving voodoo lady because - apparently - sitting down is all she's ever done.

It's just weird that D'Oro the X'Ploro was the most active NPC - and he was just playing with dolls!

Apart from what others have said up thread, there is also the jagged reef to think about. Reefs attract fish, fish attract sharks. People getting cut up on the reef will get the sharks into feeding mode. I remember hearing somewhere that not many pirates could swim either, but this might just be a myth. So the survival rate from sunken ships could be really low.

DeSinge, avid collector of pirate parts, sees to the population control on Flotsam.

Heh, is anyone else baffled by the amount of papers Nipperkin has printed? He's either going to sell the same news for a year or so, or the island is full of people lost in the jungle.

Add to that the fact that a lot, if not most, pirates were illiterate... but I ask you this. Did anyone see any toilet paper on the island? Eh? Didya?

I think we've discovered the true purpose of Nipperkin's newspaper... all the news that's fit to poop on!

    Well said. :o

Hmm... the weird thing is that according to what Nipperkin says, there are at least two newspapers on Flotsam Island - the Keelhauler and the Flotsam Times...

But Club 41 sounds like the place most people would be... I imagine most pirates, if marooned, would prefer to drink their sorrows than take up glassblowing..

come to think of it now yes the game was pretty empty, it did lack the presence of a few characters and suffered from the loss of having an actual playable scene in Club 41 with loads of pirates..
