Question about Hershel's farm in season 1

I recently have been going back through early parts of the comic and it got me wondering. Hershel had about eight kids in the comic (including Shawn). I know Shawn is the only one that appears in the game but are any of the other kids ever mentioned in anyway while the group from the game is at the farm? I guess we are left to assume that Lacey, Arnold, Maggie, Billy, Rachel, and Susie were all in the house that entire time Otis and Patricia you could explain away I guess because they lived in a house down the road and they may not have moved in yet by the time Lee's group visited.

It would have been cool though to see some of the other kids working outside as background characters. They wouldn't have had to have any lines but just something to show that they were there as well. Perhaps they weren't able to add little easter eggs like that in though for budgetary reasons.

  • I do think I remember Herschel telling Shawn that his sisters were inside the house, but to my knowledge that was the only acknowledgement of them that I remember from the game. Shawn's death might have been even more traumatic if it happened in front of some of his siblings, now that I think about it. Kenny (and determinately the player) would probably feel even worse if they didn't help him at all and were witnessed by a crowd of his loved ones.

  • If all the kids were there then Shawn could've been saved, which isn't the canon for the comics. That's TellTale's interpretation of how Shawn died, as he is mentioned in the comics.

  • This is something that has always bothered me of Season One, and it would have been such an amazing crossover.

Rachel and Susie could have been talking to Clementine and Katjaa, and those such as Lacey, Arnold, Maggie and Billy would have run outside of the house after Shawn screamed, so they would not have been there in time to save him but we still would've come across them.

Remember that we visit Hershel's farm about 3 days after everything happens, so most likely, the rest of Hershel's family hasn't returned home yet. Rachel, Susie and Maggie were probably there, while Lacey and Arnold were probably still trying to get home. Maybe Billy was out, too, who knows. Otis and Patricia most likely didn't decide to stay at the farm yet. There's a pretty sizable chunk of time that passes before Rick and co arrive there; at least a month or two before Rick woke up from the coma, and the few months they stayed at the camp outside Atlanta.

Yeah I believe in the comic Rick is in the coma for about a month so Rick and his crew wouldn't have arrived at the farm for about five or six weeks after the events in the game (don't believe they were at the Atlanta camp for as long as you said). However even given the fact that the farm scene in the game takes place just a few days after the outbreak and all his kids may not have been able to return home yet I still think an effort should have been made to make the player aware that Hershel had a lot of other kids aside from Shawn and a sister (which is all the game really alludes to).

It could have been a very simple line where Hershel tells Lee that he is worried about some of his other kids that havn't returned home yet.

  • Just went back through those parts of the comic quickly. The comic makes it very clear that Rick was in a coma for a month. He wakes up and within the day runs into Duane and Morgan. Spends about a day with them and then the next day heads off to Atlanta which he says is five hours away. Spends about another day on the road and he immediately runs into Glenn once he reaches Atlanta and they go immediately to the camp.

On the third day at the camp is when Glenn and Rick go back into the city to get weapons and spend a day there. Then on the next pages they say they have been practicing shooting for a couple weeks and later that night is when their camp gets attacked and Amy is killed. They spend about another week at the camp before Shane is killed and they immediately leave after that. So Rick spends about a month at the camp.

They drive around for about two days before reaching Wiltshire Estates and spend one day there before they are over run and forced to leave. They are on the road for another couple days before deciding they need to start hunting and that is when they run into Otis and the Hershel farm sequence of the comic starts.

So Rick's group arrives at the farm about ten weeks into the Apocalypse. Just figured I would go back and check to see what it was since it was brought up in the thread about how long into the ZA Rick arrived at the farm.

  • Molly can be seen in the window for 2secs but that is it
